Well... some time has passed since I first floated the idea http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=522561
A while ago my two freigther BPOs came out of research. I did not have the component BPOs when the ship BPOs I had at the time finished, so I put a charon BPC on the in game contract system raw... 66 mill start no buyout... just to see where it went. (the first obelisk bpc went to my corp.)
It ended up selling for 220 million... so there is a demand for freighter BPCs after all.
Well... I have another charon and an obelisk bpc almost done... I will try the open contract system again on these two since my new component BPOs are not done researching... see how they do...
plus I finally bought the providence BPO (it is in the oven for me:2 right now... after that will do pe:1... maybe?).
I have the components... and can finally make complete package deals. (I don't have the fenrir yet)
with the new mobile labs coming out... making BPCs will be even faster... and after selling that one charon BPC, I have a comfort level on what I think they are worth.
Assuming that I mass produce the component BPCs for 5 runs at a time... each freighter (other than the fenrir) will need 35 BPCs, along with the ship itself... Profits on the ships being sold straight at the ME level done are about 200-300 million isk, and in the time I could make 1 BPC set... I can manufacture 2.5 freighters to sell on the market.
I figure I will auction off the packs each time they are done, a complete set, all that is needed is minerals and capital ship construction level 1.
Since they all take the same amount of time to copy, and use the same amount of component BPC 5 packs... my idea is to start the bidding at 178 million (my copy slot time at 2 million per day), and do a buyout at 600 million (about 2.5 times the average profit I could make doing the ships) for all of them... no need to adjust the price on the racial differances.
Every 28 days I would pump out another set of two (three once the providence BPO is done) freighter BPC packs.
If I end up sitting on two packs of any one ship... I won't make a third and simply switch to making the ship itself. So I mitigate the risk a bit.
I figure I could make more profit making and selling the ships, but this reduces the amount of money I would need up front for the minerals, and removes my self from the volatile nature of mineral prices. Not finding research slots in Empire Space? Try Quutar Research Services. |

Unless I am reading it wrong, it takes 4 weeks to make a 1 run copy. (assuming pos lab, and maximum skills). You are selling it for 220m per bpc (which I don't know why anyone would pay such a price, but sweet if you can get that)
In that 4 weeks if producing you could almost build 3 freighters, selling each for a profit of approx 190m (assuming you provide your own comps) per ship, or 570m per month profit.
Obviously it's much more work than just pressing copy, but just my 2c :)

with the normal POS lab, in high sec... it takes 33.3 days to make a bpc it takes 11 days to make the ship (PE:1)
so it is 3:1...
the new advanced POS lab and the 5% implant will allow me to make a copy in 28 days... 2.5:1 Not finding research slots in Empire Space? Try Quutar Research Services. |

Therein lies why this could work. Effort and Profit have a very hand-in-hand relationship :)

Yeh I do a similar thing with a Thanatos BPO in TCCS possession. Rather than start up lowsec operations, I have outsourced the BPO to a production person already out there, and he just pays a set fee.
It is only about 1/3 the profits but reduces a ton of work
