Has anyone got a working in-game browser compatable forum? I found one from a year or two ago but it doesn't seem to be working very well.

Edited by: Zylithi on 29/08/2007 09:04:07 www.evebb.org Yes it hasnt been updated in a year or so and doesnt run so well on "recent" linux installations. If you want to get it running really well it'll take a bit of work.
If you happen to have issues with the IGB not working, read here: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=573277
I'm working on releasing a "fixed" version of it myself, stay tuned.
For a "small" fee I could host a modified version of this for you as well... complete with working portrait retrieval and the ability to designate people as "corp forum admins," among other bugfixes that i worked on for two weeks.

Im using a modified version of evebb but my problems arent with IGB or anything like that, I have over come most of those issues (though I cant seem to get polls working IGB).... Its that the basic security model is flawed.... not only can you be heavily spammed, but you can spoof the headers and post as anyone. Dont get me wrong, It might be do to changes I made...
Anyways, If anyone is working on this project (as it seems dead at the hosted site sadly), pls let me know, Id like to help, benefit, contribute and learn. :)

It's not hard to prevent spamming, simply set it so corpless users can only read most forums and have a rediculous posting delay (ie. 30 minutes). If you're in a corp/alliance that is serious enough to consider using the forums instead of the ingame mail then that shouldn't be a problem. A 30 minute delay should be enough for a corpless to make an "add me to corp plz this sux kthx" post.
What I've also done with mine is I've ridden the "feature" where only one member per forum corp is able to attach and eject members. I've created an extra admin group called the Corp Admins which are able to attach members to their corp as well as create and moderate forums in their corp's category.
Essentially you have to follow the corp-group scheme that the devs came up with, where you have the User Groups defining status (ie. Director, CEO, etc) and the Corp Membership status keeping corp duties where they belong.
I'd love to work on this as a side project, but I'm swamped already at the moment creating an ingenious competitor to cPanel...

Our corporation uses SMF for our forum. It works well in game and out of game. We use the mobile phone mode in game, which turns out pretty well... Not the best for looks or using in game features, but it does the job. It is easy to modify though.
