Highly unlikely, unless you catch him totally unprepared, which is very rare.
Good choice in cruisers btw, the Thorax is one of the easiest-to-solo-PvP ships out there. Sure its no swiss-army knife, but when it does what its supposed to do, its a ship killer, even to battlecruisers and battleships at times. -

I'm on my first day; talk about sensory overload. This game has it in spades.
So much to take in. So much to see. So much to do. So much to learn.
I have a feeling I'll be staying here for a very long time.

Welcome to EvE op. hope you like it here as much as we do.
best advise a nub gets is: if you cant afford it, dont fly it. trust me (and the countless others that say this) its the best advise youŠll ever get. stay in small ships for as long as you can. nubs in big ships is what pirates call "good fun, but crappy loot".

dude, youŠre 7 days old. the biggest thing you should be flying is a 300k, t1 fitted frig. kudos though for balls. being this young and wanting to take on pirates! i smell an aspiring no-good-er:) also youŠll have much more survivability (is that really a word) in frigs. they escape faster.
second best advise is: go to low sec NOW. explore it in your starter frig. youŠll die a lot but since you get your starter frig free it doesnt matter and youŠll gain priceless experience.
good luck... and (like somebody already said) dont trust ANYONE.

I remember the feeling of sensory overload well, take your time, get to know some people and work out what you want to do in game, one thing about eve is that there is no rush.. And the real game is pvp, by that I mean player interaction on soooo many levels.
Oh and one final thing, theres no one mistake you can make now which cannot be undone at a later date, so take it easy and relax and do whatever the hell you fancy.

Haha no, I'm just a nub. But my particular nub technique in a new forum is to try and figure out the local schtick, and then use it as wrongly as possible. In this case
OldTimer1: EVE Suxors! I'm leaving Forever! Again! OldTimer2: Can I have your stuff?
becomes
Noob1: EVE Roxors! I'm staying for at least a month! Noob2: Can I have your stuff?
I suppose it might be considered a form of troll, but really I mean it in as humorous a vein as possible.

Hi there! Welcome to EVE Online. You will soon find out, that this game is like no other you have ever played.
Here's a few pointers to get you started.
1) Always have a skill training. 2) Keep your clone up to date. 3) Join a player owned Corporation. 4) Use your social skills.
Some of these are technical, but if you manage No. 3, then you'll have friends who'll explain the others.

Welcome to the game. Remember that it IS a game so when you die for the first time, due to whatever, dont be too upset. You WILL die lots of times unless you choose 'carebear' mode. If you want any isk (ingame money) or new ships etc, look for an alliance called Band Of Brothers (BoB) and they will gladly give you everything you need

I see some of CCP have alot of time on their hands to post in here frequently, might I suggest you help a player who runs two accounts, who can't maintain a connection since the patch? re: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=584307 -- Greater Love hath no man than this; that a man lay down his life for his friends.

I just wanted to drop by to welcome all new players to EVE. It's good to see that you guys are looking at the forums, it is one of the first sign of an aware and capable pilot.
It must indeed be quite something to get used to, but I'm sure the friendly people from the helper channels will help you get on your way. For a better EVE experience, I'd also suggest looking for a good corporation that is willing to take you in. Keep a close eye on their tax rates though, and be very selective on what corp you choose. The right choice on the other hand may help you financially.
Just some tips that I wish I had learnt earlier on:
1.) When doing missions, use hardeners (shield or armor depending on what you fly, never a combination of the two) to sustain damage.
2.) Do -not- take from any cans but your own. Yellow can icons mean that the canister does not belong to you and taking from it will allow the original owner to shoot you. This is a common griefing tactic by players that have no life and no sense of empathy.
3.) Every system that has a 0.4 security rating or below is typically infested by pirates. Gate sentry guns may protect you, as well as station defenses, but in asteroid belts you are very likely to be hunted. Take your time to learn and skill up before trying to take on these pirates. Being in a corporation may help you get in gangs that could combine the strengths and weaknesses of its participants.
4.) Pay good attention to what you buy on the market. Try to sort the list so that the range is primary, and THEN the price of the item. You don't want to make 30 jumps to assemble a ship if it only saves you 20K.
5.) Try to gain a stable income. Doing missions is one of the easiest methods once you get to learn the tricks of the trade, others can be in mining, manufacturing, trading or bounty collecting.
Just do everything one step at a time. Also when training skills, train your learning skills first as they cut down on the training time of your other skills too (a LOT!). Whenever you train for a new type of ship, try to train related skills to at least level 4 too, a 5 million SP specialized pilot beats a 50 million SP unfocused pilot any day.
Also, it will help a lot if you train the skills for Powergrid/CPU optimization to level 5. Not only will this help you fit more good weaponry to your ship, it is also a prerequisite for many other skills. The same applies to the skill 'Weapon Upgrades' and its runner-up 'Advanced Weapon Upgrades'.
But most of all: Enjoy the game!
