Originally by: Cel Halcyon That's probably because I was personally using subversion beforehand and as such the files got zipped up with the source I uploaded.
That's what I figured. It would be nice to see the project continue to use Subversion on Sourceforge. Is there a reason why it was changed to CVS?
Shouldn't be hard to whack all the hidden .svn files within the project. Good if the project stays with CVS. Even more important if it is moved to another Subversion repository. If you need help then I can assist. Just contact me in-game.
I started my own project recently because I wasn't sure of the status of this one, but with a focus on iPhone compatibility of the core code. From the brief look I've had I've taken a different direction but might be able to help out some.

I feel the need, somewhat, over looking back over the code, to make a statement. That statement is that this was my first Cocoa project, and in fact, first time working with Objective-C. On top of this, I'd actually, as embarassing as it is to say, before this point had never done anything substantial with a language that was not garbage collected (I prefer to use Ruby--in fact the original version of this program was written in RubyCocoa. Also my university is garbage and teaches Java. What the hell is with that?).
So the code is most likely laughable--a hack and badly put together, but somehow it runs. It probably leaks some memory (although not a noticable amount). It probably has errors, and small gotchas that'll crash the program. There's probably use cases I overlooked (this is most likely due to not following a proper development process. I sat down and wrote).
I'm sure that anyone who sits down to work on this will likely scrap half the app altogether. But I myself am proud of what I managed to accomplish with no knowledge of the language, nor the API.
But I'm happy to have helped someone. And will continue to do so.
I have been set up as an administrator of the SourceForge project. I will be continuing to work on this as time allows.
Let's get skill planning going, shall we?

I find this quite common its like this at my university as well they seem to think that just if you know java you will automatically know any other programming language as well so later on in your education they seem to assume C or C++ programming skulls since you can program Java. suu ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Aha... so it is still alive and opensource. Nice. I'm going away for a few weeks, but once I get back I'm going to grab the source and see about helping out on this project!
Which one of the sourceforge admins is best to contact should the need arise?

Edited by: Hagis McBree on 06/08/2008 19:40:58 takakoshimizu is the original developer. I ran into a bunch of issues at work so haven't had a chance to work on it since I posted it on sourceforge. We are looking for more devs to contribute, send me a e-mail through sourceforge when/if you want in in the project.

The new home is there: https://sourceforge.net/projects/eveskillmonitor/
Can someone edit the first post in the tread to reflect that change?

I downloaded Skill Monitor Cocoa from the old website a while ago, but recently changed corporations so had to change my APIs. It now crashes whenever I load the program up, so I'm guessing I need to download a new copy. That's where the problem is. When I go to your new site, I can't find where to go to download it! The download page says "This project has not yet created any file release packages."
I'm losing training time here ... help!

Am I missing something? Went to the new sourceforge home, but it says: "This project has not yet created any file release packages." Where's the skills monitor? I'd really love to try it out. Justin

IIRC you can only get the source from the SVN repo. If you want it there's intstruction of the sourceforge site on how to do that.

Edited by: Ben Thomas on 18/11/2008 07:51:17 For the people wondering how to download this, you can download a tarball of the SVN version here: http://eveskillmonitor.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/eveskillmonitor.tar.gz?view=tar
You then have to find a few frameworks, and replace them with the ones included in the tarball, as some of them just don't work.
Back when the author's site was up, I grabbed it from his SVN, and eventually got it to compile, I started working on a modified version of this but unfortunately nothing much ever came of it.
Fact is though even if you get it to compile, since the Empyrean Age API server updates it stopped working, completely.
So unless someone manages to fix whatever is causing this not to work any more (which would be impressive, as there's no error messages, nothing shows in the debug console etc.) there's no point to compiling this. It was this infact, that caused me to stop working on it. |

The version I provided should compile without any problems, on both both Leopard and Tiger.
DL link borked. Just goes straight to the filedropper main page. Could you fix please? Would love to take a look :) |

Edited by: Lohrant on 19/11/2008 21:45:50 Hi there everyone,
As i was interested in also trying this out i retrieved the source and tried to build the code, just to fid out that a framework was causing build errors, it turns out though, that if you compile it with the framework disabled, and then put the framework manually into the .app folder, the application works.
For you convenience I have uploaded the binary executable on filefront here: EVE Skill Monitor Cocoa

You're going to have to download XCode in order to compile it.
If you're not a developer or haven't done any development before I suggest waiting until someone releases a binary. But if you can't wait then you might as well give it a go :)

Originally by: Kanmahr I can build the project fine, but when I try to open the nib I get an error saying it can't find the graph and tab framework. When I locate them it fails to decode it. So I'm stuck with being unable to open the nib. Anything you did to get this to work?
Yeah, I tried everything, but you *can't* open the nib using XCode 3. You have to use Interface Builder.app from XCode 2.5.
You'll also need to add the PSMTabBarControl and SM2DGraphView Palettes for IB 2.5 (via Preferences > Palettes > Add) just realised I didn't include them in the file I previously uploaded, download them here. --- Founder, CEO - Legion of Ascension |
