Edited by: Cel Halcyon on 31/08/2007 01:27:26 This is an in-progress attempt to provide EVEMon-like functionality to Mac OS X users.
There are currently a few bugs with it, most notably that the automated updating is currently broken. There are a few other problems, and I'd like for you to report when they occur.
Also, I am not quite a programmer. I just saw a gap in the software market and sought to fill it.
You can find more information, (out of date) screenshots, source code, and the download here:

So far, so good, time to start with the suggestions:
Could you please make the application resizeable and also add a way to hide it?

You can hide it by hitting Command-H or clicking Skill Monitor -> Hide Skill Monitor.

Nice app. You beat me to it. ;)
I added a few bugs and suggestions as tickets.
The next feature that I would like to see is to be able to create training plans so I can see how long it will take to train a set of skills.

Edited by: Blue Wraith on 31/08/2007 18:23:48 I noticed there's an "All" timer and a "Training" timer.
Just to clarify, the All timer is the time remaining until it does a complete refresh of all skill history, etc., and the Training timer is when it will refresh your current skill in training information. Is this correct?

Right. This is to prevent too much of a load on the API servers. At least 9 minutes must've passed since your last training refresh, and at least 50 minutes must pass since your last complete refresh.
However, this can actually be forced by putting your computer to sleep and waking it. This forces a full refresh of all characters. The thought process behind this is that if your computer's gone to sleep, it's likely been a long while since it was last awake. Not always true, but often enough.

What a great app,
PM me if you need any help with it (making an installer maybe?) although I'm quite new to the mac, I've been a developer for the better part of a decade and I'm sure I can wrap my head around all this cocoa fanciness.
Great job again!

One thing, the monitor keeps crashing when my iMac goes to sleep. I get "Skill Training Completed" voice message over, and over again, and then error messages when I click on the application "jumping/attention" in my dock.
Other than that, and the desire to have an actual planner built in, the application works great!

Very nice app. I've got it running all day while I'm at work. I thought I might as well make a small contribution if you're interested. I'm a professional designer, and I'm also an icon snob, so here's some application specific icons that I made for my own enjoyment, but thought you might be interested in using one of them in the official release as the App icon.

If you decide you'd like to use them, let me know and I'll send you the incs files. ----------

Cel, I love you.
This app is just floating in coolness. Thx!
I've just installed it and found a possible bug. After creating and deleting a new character tab, it's still visible in the main window but not in the Saved Character list. Even after restarting the app, the tab of the deleted character is still there.

This is the biggest reason I missed playing on Windows. EVEMon was so useful. Your app looks amazing, this combined with the Skill Monitor Widget, OS X is rapidly catching up to the Windows functionality and I think we could surpass them. Mac users are notorious for taking Windows functionality and making them way better. I can't wait to see where this app goes.

This is Cel Halcyon. Somewhat after writing this I stopped playing the game.
But I'm genuinely happy of the response that this app has recieved, so I'm very much considering picking this back up. Before quitting I had already laid the groundwork for skill planning and even laid out the the planning window/browser in NIB form.
Give me some time to research what Trinity has changed in the game and I might make this work. At the very least, release a Leopard compatible build

Sorry for not being around. Life has had a lot on its plate lately. I've had no time for pleasure projects like this. I'm here on that 14-day trial for Empyrean Age to do this.
But I found out that even still no one else has come along and filled this void of an OS X skill monitor program, despite OS X EVE having been out for so long.
So I build a Leopard compatible version for all of you. I'm sorry that I cannot do more.

I had, and then I realized that no one could get to it anymore due to the site being down.
So here, it's a mess, it's garbage, and it's barely strung together and needs some serious refactoring. I like solving the problem but then I get sluggish when it comes time to make the solution elegant.

I would love to have a look - Unfortunately I'm new to Macs and xcode, I've checked out the source but it won't build, I've tracked down a couple of problems
1) I had to change the "Cross develop using target SDK" - 10.4 universal is the only one that gets close to building selecting 10.5 causes errors like : /Users/barney/Development/eveskillmonitor/EveAPI.m:211: error: invalid use of void expression and /Users/barney/Development/eveskillmonitor/EveAPI.m:228: error: void value not ignored as it ought to be
2) SM2DGGraphView not present at all in checked out code - download and copy into source tree and point xcode to the correct directory - it is currently looking in /Library/Frameworks/SM2DGGraphView.framework
3) PSMTabBarControl framework is included but for some reason xcode couldn't find the header file. Downloading and copy into source tree fixes
4) Sparkle framework is included but again xcode fails to find it during the linking stage. Downloading and copy into source tree fixes this too.
5) Linking failure : Undefined symbols: "_sqlite3_column_text", referenced from: -[FMResultSet kvcMagic:] in FMResultSet.o -[FMResultSet stringForColumn:] in FMResultSet.o (lots more but all related to _sqlite3_) . This one has got me stumped what do I need to change in the project config to get it to find the appropriate libs.

That's probably because I was personally using subversion beforehand and as such the files got zipped up with the source I uploaded.
And I'm sorry, a handful of frameworks I didn't copy to the project directory. You can easily find those through Google. But on the other hand, it SHOULD compile for 10.5 just fine as that's what I did prior to upload the source. As for FMResults and whatnot, that's from sqlite3.a and the FMDatabase files. Should definately all be there.

I'm new to Macs and objective C so please bear with me if I'm being stupid. I got all the frameworks from google as you said I was just reporting my experience so others could benefit. What stumped me for a little while what that some of the frameworks are present in the checked out code but they just don't appear to work, downloading the appropriate framework and copying over the top of these fixed the problem.
I'm not sure how to fix the void errors when using the 10.5 sdk but trust me they are there when I try building the code as checked out from the sourceforge repository - Just managed to fix it ... the real problem was a couple of warnings about multiple definitions of "-start" putting (TrainingSkill*) infront of "skill start" on lines 211 and 228 of EveAPI.m appears to have removed these errors.
All I am left with now is the sqlite3 errors, I've been looking to find a way to include the /usr/lib directory where the libsqlite3.dylib file is, which I assumed is the library that provides the functions defined in sqlite3.h but maybe I was wrong in that assumption ... I've not found a file called sqlite3.a either in the Leopard installed files or in the checked out code.

That's what I figured. It would be nice to see the project continue to use Subversion on Sourceforge. Is there a reason why it was changed to CVS?
Shouldn't be hard to whack all the hidden .svn files within the project. Good if the project stays with CVS. Even more important if it is moved to another Subversion repository. If you need help then I can assist. Just contact me in-game.
I started my own project recently because I wasn't sure of the status of this one, but with a focus on iPhone compatibility of the core code. From the brief look I've had I've taken a different direction but might be able to help out some.

I feel the need, somewhat, over looking back over the code, to make a statement. That statement is that this was my first Cocoa project, and in fact, first time working with Objective-C. On top of this, I'd actually, as embarassing as it is to say, before this point had never done anything substantial with a language that was not garbage collected (I prefer to use Ruby--in fact the original version of this program was written in RubyCocoa. Also my university is garbage and teaches Java. What the hell is with that?).
So the code is most likely laughable--a hack and badly put together, but somehow it runs. It probably leaks some memory (although not a noticable amount). It probably has errors, and small gotchas that'll crash the program. There's probably use cases I overlooked (this is most likely due to not following a proper development process. I sat down and wrote).
I'm sure that anyone who sits down to work on this will likely scrap half the app altogether. But I myself am proud of what I managed to accomplish with no knowledge of the language, nor the API.
But I'm happy to have helped someone. And will continue to do so.
I have been set up as an administrator of the SourceForge project. I will be continuing to work on this as time allows.
Let's get skill planning going, shall we?
