after numerous computer crashes with my last system I decided to buy the best system I could since formatting and reinstalling was becoming annoying. I scour the internet for the components I want and make my orders.
So, 1 week later and everything has arrived and I spend the next 6 hours or so building the new tower and setting it up.
Everything is setup so with great anticipation I fire up Eve.
Now all I get is the black screen of death on startup where the initial login box should be. I hear music, but I can do nothing but close it and try again.
here is my pc specification
Processor : Quadcore EXTREME QX6850 (12,000 mhz) Motherboard : ASUS Striker Extreme Ram : 8gb DDR2 (800mhz) Hard drives : 2x 500mb SATA Serial ATA Graphics : NVIDIA nForceĢ 680i SLI + Twin nVidia GeForce 8800 ULTRA (768MB X 2) + AGEIA PhysX 128mb Accelerator Card Monitors : 2x 27" Dell UltraSharpTM 2707WFP flat panel monitors O/S : MicroSoft Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit (a legitimate copy)
I Installed the drivers that came with the components, and although there should be no need to look for updated drivers (since this stuff is pretty much best available and upto date) I still had a look for drivers and as expected there was no updates.
Just to check the graphics cards were not borked I installed Battlefield 2 and Halo 2, both of which worked fine.
Any ideas? I bought this lot with Eve in mind and it would be so disappointing if this setup won't work with eve...

I made the asumption you meant in the eve folder so I looked, but couldn't see it. Where do find it? Oh and why delete that file and what is it exactly?
thanks

Dont lie we know you dont have a technical problem and that you only said you did as an excuse to post your new awesome rig. I do like your 12000MHZ processor though (you cant just say 4 3GHz processors give you 12GHz unfortunately). also remember eve is lazy and only uses one core ( i assume this will be fixed one of these days since i seem to remember one of the dev interviews saying they were gona start embracing threading which they had previously avoided).
In regards to your problem i really dont know. Is it just with eve you have problems?

Very nice rig! The only things I can think to try are to see if matching your OS resolution to your game resolution helps. I'm guessing that you have your OS resolution cranked way up or it may be an odd resolution due to matching native resolutions of your flatscreens. See if you can match just to rule it out. Uh, actually, other then that, I can't think of anything.

I'm assuming it's just with eve as I have tried 2 other games and they work fine. Eve starts up, just all I get is a black screen where the login options should be. I have just tried reinstalling a fresh download of the eve client and that didn't work either. All I can think of is either the o/s doesn't like eve or the graphics isn't compatible, but tbh I don't have a clue.
p.s yes it's an awesome rig, but I can't play Eve... :( /emote feels sad

If you haven't added the /LUA:OFF options and thos stuff to keep the eve cache in the eve directory, then I think it should be
C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\My Documents\EVE\cache\settings\pc.dat
If your Documents and Settings folder is on drive C: ofc.

Put this in target location in your shortcut to eve. "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe" /end /LUA:OFF
ofcourse sub C for whereever you have eve installed.

I disabled a monitor restarted vista and now it works.... (one monitor only). Both monitors work fine if I switch them round, but they don't seem to work together so that is the problem...
Thanks for the help guys, I'll try to figure this out tomorrow - meantime I wanna get some Eve quality time :)
