Edited by: QuantumX on 31/08/2007 14:28:29 So I've been toying with the idea of making a few movies, i made a few in years gone by but nothing of the quality i see in may of these videos.
The actually editing, and capturing of the video's itself for me is the easy part, its the way people seem to catch camera angles that i don't even know hows it done is what astounds me.
Many video just show the HUD and the action, the bog standard action flick. But there are more and more videos here using more and more advanced Camera angles even when they are in the thick of the action, and to be utterly honest i have'nt got a clue how they make may of the shots.
The video in this link by Stahlregen, shows the kinds of things i'm talking about

As well as many other videos on tis forums. So the quest is, would people be willing to collate the tricks of the trade so to speak to help other make such fantastic movies of EvE. ========================== I came i saw i got blown up!

Not the answer you are looking for QuantumX, but a lot of it is trial and error for the basic capturing.
Being able to dislocate the cam by right-clicking etc gives you the freeform you'll see on a lot of vids. The 'set interest' option gives you the swooping fly-bys and simply playing around with these two is about all one can do to acheive some nice shots.
Most of the time, it's luck.
That's capturing. Editing opens up options for making even the most simple of shots look good through rotation, scales, wipes, tracks, shakes and other basic stuff.
Just play with the cam, it'll happen.

The above poster pretty-much summed it up. You can either zoom with the right mouse button, or set a parent and interest. The eve camera is notoriously hard to control and manipulate, so you really just have to play with those two options and keep the camera running - you'll get something cool sooner or later.

The above answers are are correct.. my two cents: For the 'pretty' shots, take the hud off, fiddle with the parent/interest options, and try to get good shots. A lot of times for the atmospheric shots it seems better to hold your camera steady and let stuff fly by it, however, I've found that during battle when you have to keep your hud on, you can get some pretty nifty shots by working the right click zoom feature, if you have the presence of mind to do it. A lot of times I'll get into really kick ass battles and a. forget to turn on fraps or b. go into the all out fight mode and zoom all the way out and just get a frenzied horde of colorful squares for footage, which no one likes.
Just takes practice and some luck.

Hmm thanks for the input.. I get the right click zoom stuff quite hard to control, but i see how it can get some nice shots.
