A Newsweek Poll taken before the release of the massively hyped film ôIndependence Dayö revealed that:
- 48% of Americans think UFOs are real. - 29% think we have made contact with aliens. - 48% think there is a government cover up of UFO knowledge
So, do you believe that there are alien races visiting the earth for some purpose? Or do you believe they are not, or that no other human-like intelligence exists?
Its such a simple question, but may be difficult to answer for people who fear being ridiculed by others. If so, use a nameless alt to reply.
If you dont reply at all, I guess you are a coward.

Nope I don't believe in alien visitations. I totally believe that we are far from alone in the universe, I'm not arrogant enough to think we are unique, but due to the vastness of space the distances to the nearest stars is huge.
You watch any of these "Proof of UFO's" prgrams on TV every now and again and most of these video's/photo's look like either fake, birds, planes or the reflection of lights in windows. I was watching one the day and it looked so much like a light reflected in the window, then Jonathan Frakes said something like "and then it mysteriously disappeared" bvut it was just someone turning the bloody light out. I'll stake my life on that
Before I die I'd love to know for sure that their is other life in the universe and even more so I'd like to see it come to Earth. But in the words of a great philosopher
ôSometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.ö __________________________________

I find it hard to believe there is a massive 'UFO cover-up' -although there is a significant 'conspiracy industry' based on perpetuating such ideas.
Having said that, I think the odds for intelligent life out there are overwhelming.

Here's one for some insta-brainmelt:
Can you logically believe in a creationist theory of existence while disbelieving the existence of other intelligent life in the universe?

This crop circle was created in pitch black, with no sound whatsoever, while being filmed by night vision cameras by scientists. Its more than a thousand feet wide.
Pretty interesting stuff.

Yeah. I've seen some weird stuff myself and then a few years afterwards was listening to a TV program where another guy was describing exactly same thing i saw only he was from another part of the world. He even drew some pictures. It was very weird for me to see that. But it is quite possible that there is intelligent life somewhere else given the expanse of our universe.

I always liked the 'Hitchikers Guide' take on things, that the dolphins were trying to warn us about the earths imminent destruction, and the mice ran everything If aliens were bothered coming here I very much doubt they would be shoving probes up our arse and mutilating our cows So no I don't think we have been visited. I subscribe more to the multidimension and reincarnation view of the 'universes' goings on.

Not sure they are getting paid... there are a lot of people who are interested in this, and are spending their free time trying to learn more.
Its SO easy to just think "its a scam". Its much harder to look at it and think "what if its not a scam?".

the biggest proof of ET existence is IMHO the cattle abduction / mutilation. Considering the geographical variety in which it happens, how often it happens and more importantly, the things that are done to these poor animals like removing certain parts of the interior body trough very tiny, pencil width holes (made with lasers according to the doctors), I believe it's safe to say it's impossible that humans or nature are responsible.

Sure,, i'm here right.
Sorry, couldn't resist the temptation. On a more serious note, i most certainly believe there's other intelligent life in the universe. If one considers the shere size of the universe (sofar, no boundaries found) what's the mathematical possibility that there's NOT life elsewhere?

Chances are pretty slim,
The current top belief by the best scientists is that its not about 'if' they exist, its more 'when' they exist.
Basically take a large vinyl record. That record is time throught history in our galaxy. Place a pin on the record. And that pin is humanity's duration of existance on the record.
Its very possible that sentient intelligent life has existed. But the chances of two pins on that record meeting are very slim. If not near impossible.
Sorry to put a dampener on the fanatics out there!

Dont worry, you're not. :) The ones you call fanatics are most likely just like myself, curious about mysteries we cant explain. Thats not being fanatic.
If you think about it, its MORE fanatic to dismiss something like this without even being curious, because you are convinced that there is no way in hell this could be caused by something else than humans. Wouldnt you agree?

Isn't the definition of a fanatic someone who considers every opinion and fact that goes against what he/she "knows" to be wrong?
I'm not a fanatic, but I can also not make up my mind as to whether I believe that aliens have visited earth or not.

I don't dismiss it, just was pointing out fact's against it, and clearing up how likely/not likely it is.
I don't know what your speaking about when you say here 'caused by something other than humans' to what do you refer?
The definition for fanatic is; marked by excessive enthusiasm for and intense devotion to a cause or idea

What if everything we know or we think we know about space, time, physics, etc is actually wrong and it is entierly possible to travel from one side of the galaxy to the other in a matter of hours or something.? . I mean we have only been to our moon and make our assumptions from things we know about our planet.
I think that if aliens do come or have come, that they proberly have been going wtf at us and our crazy ideas of time and space.

We have been to mars as well, and have sent probes to many planets. But still, of course we dont know a lot. We are like babies in the grand scheme of things. Just think back 100 year and think about what we have found out and invented since then. Then think 100 years ahead and realize that we will find out just as much, if not more, during that time as well. Its only logical to conclude that we know next to nothing about the universe.

I do believe there is life outside of Earth's biosphere (aliens on other worlds, or variations on that theme) but I don't believe for a moment that they come to earth and abduct hill billies. Or that they've come to Earth at all.
Space is so mind-numbingly big and life is almost certain to be relatively sparse within it (most places are just too hostile). If a space faring alien people managed to stumble upon a planet teeming full of intelligent life, I honestly can't imagine them just lurking around and not doing anything. It seems so remarkably far fetched that life would evolve at almost exactly the same time near by, that it'd discover a way of busting the laws of physics and travelling easily between stars, and then would stumble upon life at almost exactly the same stage of evolution, AND would then just kind of ignore it (with the exception of the odd southern US hill billy). It's all just too much coincidence for me to swallow. ------

Edited by: Caol on 01/09/2007 14:54:10 Edited by: Caol on 01/09/2007 14:53:44 The assumption that a vastly advanced technological alien nation would land on the planet to puzzle us with crop circles is, well...stretching it a bit far. The comparison would be a human walking past an ant hill in africa and drawing circles in the sand in the night to puzzle the ants.
Is there life in the universe besides our own? I think its incredibily likely given the size of the universe.
Then again, crop circles could be the work of an underground movement of badgers with a plan to take over the Wiltshire countryside for themselves...Believe what you want, each are as likely as the other

Heh, I know a guy who does crop circles. Nothing supernatural about them. He showed me his equipment (a plank, a tent peg and some rope) and he showed me two of his bits of handiwork- one a conventional looking network of circles and triangles, and another a giant heart shape. Living in Wiltshire ftw \0/

So your friend can make a perfect giant crop circle in less than 2 hours without making a sound and without being filmed by the camera team standing next to them? I want to see that.

I would have a go if I could overcome the guilt of ruining someone's crop.

Takes him about 4 hours, but yeah. And not on his own- he does it with about 3 other people.
And you'd be surprised how many fields there are in Wiltshire- most of them are a mile or so from the nearest house, and there isn't a camera team on station next to all several thousand of them
And some of the farmers know it's them. The one with the giant heart actually requested it, although the geometric circles / triangles one didn't know. ------

why would aliens want to visit? seriously, in some parts people are dieing from hunger/thirst, other parts people are dieing to each other cause of a slight variation in religion, and most of the other parts dont care and are poisoning/devastating the planet with noxious gasses and.
if you were an alien, would you want to visit this place? personaly, I'd put some observers around it and at the first sign that such a planet was able to spread out into the galaxy I'd wipe them out so theye cant damage any more of the galaxy.
Do I believe theres life somewhere else then on this planet? yes, i believe there's planty of life out there. Some of it is bound to be inteligent too :)

I know. :) Google earth is amazing.
But some of the crop circles are impossible for humans to make. They cannot be explained as hoaxes. And often, the ones that are confirmed to be made by humans are pretty basic compared to the best unexplained ones.
Have you checked Crop Circle Connector? Absolutely fascinating stuff, at least to me.
The West Kennett Long Barrow one is quite stunning.

there's that too. I mean 700 years ago everybody knew the world was flat, and that the sun was orbiting around the planet. 110 yeas ago the fastest way to communicate with someone on the other side of the planet was to write a letter and then use sail ships to deliver it. Nowadays we simply bounce some radiowaves of satalites.
Heck, if you could go back in time, say, 30 years and then try to explain to someone that over 30 years he'd be playing videogames(hmm, try to explain that first) on a telephone he'd be carrying with him. WTF! Or even more fun, go back 60 years and try to explain heavy metal music :D
