Edited by: TWD on 04/09/2007 00:48:12 Are you making sure that teams that were in the same pool are not going to meet eachother again until the finals in the knockout stage? (If both teams make it)
Looking at the pool results from the second tournament (links for the third don't seem to work) @ link and the knockout results @ link the number #1 in a pool would meet the number #2 in the semi's again. Say if the (supposed) two best PvP teams are in the same pool, they can't meet in finals and this can be seen as a bad thing. Having the pool winners from A-D one one side in the knockout stage, and the teams that ended #2 in A-D on the other side to face the pool winners of E-H would fix this. |

It looks like the answer to this is no. It is entirely possible to meet the other team that advances from your pool in the quarterfinals of the tournament. You simply both have to win your Group of 16 match and there you have it. I don't exactly see it as a bad thing either. You can fight someone you may have had a really good, exciting fight within your pool and try to outwit them again. Also gives a little sense of rivalry for those competing and those watching. With alliances fighting one another that sometimes never see each other from across New Eden, a little history between alliances is a good thing.

Edit: removed some non useful stuff.
I mentioned this in IRC two days ago, and was told it would be looked at.
I also gave them this handy 'how to structure a tourney' thing: http://vando.org/cstourney.xls

/me recalls last tournament... Then they put out a schedule where teams from same group would meet in semi (after the original schedule were correct). As this is completely ********, we protested a bit about that and it was sorted.
I assume it will be sorted again. It's like the golden rule of all tournaments that teams from the same group should not be able to meet again until in the final. Am I forced to have any regret? I've become the lie, beautiful and free In my righteous own mind I adore and preach the insanity you gave to me |

They have to: - reorganize the elimination schedule, so that teams from same group end up on the opposite sides of the table. - re-think the consequences of the tie-breaker rule where winner is decided based on points from group stage - add an extra match to decide between the 3rd and 4th place. My post does not represent the general or official opinion of anyone else besides me. No matter what YOU believe. Phear the arrows of the HUNs >>----> |

double signed. This means that you would have a lot of repeated fights. and that cant be the idea.
So, go and sort it out please, before we all have to watch again the same fights that happened before.
If you do it right, ony in the final there can be a repeat match.

Posting what I posted in the other thread:
DO NOT RESCHEDULE THE CURRENT LAST 16 MATCHES
You will end up with teams believing they are playing at a different time than they actually are.
THE CURRENT LAST 16 FIXTURES WORK
You just have to change where the fixtures are placed initially in the tree.

Endorsing because the other thread directed me here upon lock. It's a stupid mistake, and very easily fixed by changing the NEXT round.
Currently, the matchups are this:
W271 + W272 W273 + W274 W275 + W276 W277 + W278
Instead, it needs to be like this:
W271 + W273 W272 + W274 W275 + W277 W276 + W278
None of the currently fixed matchups will change, and no scheduling calamities.

But, its probably better to change the tree instead of the draw. Otherwise people that thought they were playing later (eg. Star Fraction) may miss their match as it was already announced as a later fixture.

Even if doing it this way is far less likely to see IAC make it as far as semi-finals I still think this is how it should be.

Seriously if u change the matches people will not arrive to their matches on the time they were expecting, and the whole tournament will be a complete waste of time as u will have teams dropping left right and centre, especially some of the smaller alliances who donĘt have as many members as the super alliances.

Indeed this is weird. I'm sure changing the times a bit won't matter. And if a team has a problem with the new times, the GM's should be lenient...
