Edited by: MassonA on 04/09/2007 11:05:03 well after getting my copy of bioshock, and then being told by the smarmy little bastards trolling the 2k forums that my computer isnt good enough (admittedly my fault), can anyone recommend a decent site where theyll build your pc to spec without totally ripping you off? they also need to deliver to the UK
this is really just a stab in the dark as i know most of these types of sites do generally rip you off hardcore

Edited by: Jadiin on 04/09/2007 11:49:47 Why don't you build it yourself?
Takes all of a small amount of reading to elarn what goes with what then you can price items yurself.
2 goods sites to buy parts from are www.overclockers.co.uk and www.komplett.co.uk
Trust me, building your own pc is a complete doodle.
EDIT: In saying that the above sites do sell built computers as well.

I just got a new PC from wired2fire they built my system to the spec i gave them, including some stuff they dont sell but got in for me.
That aside.. if the reason you cant get bioshock working is an SM2.0 gfx card, then check out Shadershock. Seems to get bioshock working on older SM2.0 cards.

Thing to do it set your budget first.. then pick hardware bassed on that. Also work out what you can (or rather want to) salvage from the old system, Case/Hdds/optical drives etc.

Also dont forget to allocate most of your budget to graphics and then a decent processor to run it. The new Pentiums have recently been released and they are excellent, AMD are still trailing ( ) but might catch up in the near future
After that you want Decent RAM and then a good HDD. I would name a few but then again I have no idea how much you want to spend.
As for lasting a few years, ATM that may be harder than it usually is. With the way the market is going and with recent announcements from Nvidia and ATI I wouldnt be surprised if a new gen of cards were relased sooner rather than later, but you can have a good pop at it!

E6750 is cheeper then the E6600 now. Q6600 is a good price though, just make sure that your mobo can support what ever cpu you go for. If you have no ambitions to use 2 gfx cards then a P35 chipset mobo is a solid choice atm.
Kingston/corsair value memory is normaly a little more then unbranded/generic. Its worth paying the extra if not for performance then just for the fact that when it arrives it will actaully work.
8800s are really big cards.. make sure that your case will let you fit them. Often the 8800 is so long that you run into troubles when you fit the card and then try to put the hdd in and find that the cables are bumping into each other.
Also make sure you budget for a decent PSU, dont get to ordering and pick some ú15 500w unbranded (or winfast/eyeT/qtec etc) piece of junk, u save ú30 now but you will be sad when it kills your whole pc in 4weeks time
Other then that, best thing to do is spend a few hours dbl checking the parts that you are interested in. Check compatability, look at the hardware forums to see if people are haveing any problems with perticular parts, or with combinations of parts and then when your happy order your parts :)

I usually use Ebuyer or Dabs for parts, fail that you can always Froogle items to make sure you are getting the best deal.
