The handicap rules can be used to buy your way into qualifications.
How: pay the other team to lose, field 50 points, score 175 points
This was already true last year, however a couple changes in the format make this option a lot more viable this year:
1. the ban system
last year you could score 175 points compared to un-handicapped 125 points win score difference: 50 points
this year, assuming you are banning an opponent faction BS: 100-21 = 79 * 1,25 = 98,75 for victory different: 76 points
2. the round robin in group stages
when 64 teams are playing in pre qualification, such as last year, it is difficult to calculate how many points you will need to advance and deciding if attempting to fix the game is your only chance to pass
this year you also have the round robin where 4 teams play each other and only 2 go through
when you get to the fourth game, you will have several instances of a team with no chances (0 win team) playing against a team who is tied for wins with at least one other
now you have a very bad situation in which one team who has nothing to lose can be bribed to guarantee another team`s access to the final day (by means of a 50-75 free point boost), even if such team had lower starting points that the teams it is tied with; note that this is also made worse by the low likelihood of draws happening, contrary to football
lastly, the round robin is played over several days making it even easier to sit down, figure out the maths and contact the team you want to bribe plus a third party to make sure nobody gets scammed
I do not think the handicap rule really allows any comebacks of upsets and it certainly did not do so last year, on the other hand it is easily exploitable for lame gaming. Perhaps it would be better to remove this rule. |

So what? This is EVE; if you want to be a lame ass and bribe your way to victory, go right ahead, I guess. |

this is like adding a rule where you get double points as long the opponents "agrees" you should get them
one thing is tollerating bribes, another is encouraging them |

why are you making up more rules when they should be getting rid of some?
