Tech4 News is an independent network of operatives who provide insight into the world of capsuleers that is hidden from the general population of New Eden. As well as broadcasting periodical cluster-wide audio transmissions by piggybacking the NEOCOM signal, the Tech4 GALNET site provides regular written material to inform citizens and foment discussion.
Since establishing a network of heroic correspondents who risk their very lives to seek out this news, Tech4 has been proud to publish the following stories, articles and features.

Oh hey, baseliner news. I think you're not giving your news outlet enough credit there, most capsuleer news outlets focus on other capsuleers and not the rest of New Eden. This could be very interesting for pilots to follow, if only to remember we're just a tiny part of the population. And a nice added bonus in that you have a clue what your crew is babbling about. Well, given that you care, heh. CEO of Ghost Festival :: Co-Executor of Naraka. Blog: Diary of a Pod Pilot |

Do a scan before your morning coffee. If you end up splattered on the side of a station, you'll just end up in a clone with no memory of the day's events. Or, provided you do it right, you have a real blast! It's a win-win.

Sounds like a plan. The only problem there is it's going to be very difficult to learn from mistakes. Perhaps we can get some kind of 'black box' implant installed to record muscle memory and such. Otherwise I know I will just end up with a memory full of morning coffee cravings.

Wanton destruction? It sounds as if your "unbiased" news does indeed have a bias against the capsuleer class.
I've accepted quite a few of these types of missions. They're officially sanctioned by governmental agencies, such as the Republic Fleet or Republic Security Services, or by large private corporations that require assistance in removing these dangerous hubs of illicit activity from their space. These "pleasure hubs", or "roadhouses" are never licensed by or registered with the local authorities and are always operated by criminal organizations. I've personally dispatched many of these outposts that were used by the Angel Cartel or the Seven as centers for slave trading, prostitution, gambling, fencing of stolen goods and drug dealing. I find it odd that your story attacks capsuleers for removing these criminal run operations from space.
The loss of life of non-criminal occupants of this hub is sad and something we all try to avoid. However, the responsibility for those deaths lies ultimately with the Angels. What you want is irrelevant, what you've chosen is at hand. |

While it is true that some work contracts given to capsuleers by "mission" agents do involve the destruction of a variety of structures - both "legal" and not - as a requirement for fulfillment of the contract, there are at least as many times where the contract does not include such a requirement.
In those cases, the responsibility lies very firmly with the capsuleer in question. If it isn't listed explicitly on the contract as a valid target, and is not directly impeding your completion of that contract, if you open fire, you are responsible for what happens to anyone who happens to be on board the structure or vessel that you've just shot at.
There's a reason I avoid engaging anything I don't need to when I take on work from an agent. Mind, if someone opens fire on me, all bets are off, but even then it isn't necessary to do as much damage as possible to get the job done to the point that the agent's client(s) would consider it done. |

Right, but... shirts? It's quite an odd choice for a hardened group of thugs like the Cartel and Serps. And the profit model makes sense, but the Cartel/Serps don't profit from shirts that aren't theirs.
"Dominations officials however state that the YC 114 Impetus Annual Holoreel Convention is one of the few good things coming from the Empires and thus should be met with greater respect."
Are the Angel Cartel and Serpentis dedicating manpower and money to the destruction of collectors clothing out of the goodness of their heart? Doubt it. Now the possibility that Quafe or someone heavily invested in the convention is hiring said thugs to clean up the faux shirts is something I would believe. |

This is a textbook case of the Fallacy of Distraction, a form of red herring. Capsuleers are no more special or valuable than baseliners, and the crew numbers that have been killed in other actions are irrelevant to these events.
That a single person might be harmed for a Capsuleer's vanity is horrific. |

In fact, all of them. I wasn't counting the corpses, but I heard the valeting costs of cleaning the guts off 200 capsuleer escape pods was astronomical.

A community of 300,000-odd among a cluster population of trillions... yes, my dear, we are far more valuable and special than baseliners, and they, by virtue of their ever-presence and rampant population growth, are simply... replaceable. We aren't going to run short of humans any time soon. |

Rarity does not relate to value. Psycopaths are rare and special in comparison to the baseline population, too. This does not make them more worthy than a normal person. So too with the Capsuleer. We are baseline humans with a bit of surgery and some new holes in our heads, nothing more. We are made from the baseline population you denigrate. |

Nothing more? Aren't we forgetting immortality? The ability to command city-sized warships with our noggins? The ability to cross the New Eden cluster in a split second as pure information liberated from the pitiful, disease-prone, weakling meat-sack that gave rise to it? In addition, baseliners spend years if not decades mastering the skills we master... in days or weeks.
Perhaps you are content to call yourself a mere baseliner with plugs. I am not. |

Hmphf...
No...ahhh...ideological editorial slant...here, now is there. No way, couldn't be.
Don't bite the hand that feeds, bru. Especially when that hand is 100% of your own creation.

I agree, if only there was a way to do a brain scan seconds before being reduced to a scattering of particles. Do a scan before your morning coffee. If you end up splattered on the side of a station, you'll just end up in a clone with no memory of the day's events. Or, provided you do it right, you have a real blast! It's a win-win. And yes, Valentina. I quit boosters long ago. Man's gotta get his kicks from one thing or another, right?
Heh.
A "blast," indeed...(Now where did I park my MWD/Nanofibre Drake, anyway?)

Perhaps you are content to call yourself a mere baseliner with plugs. I am not.
Your immortality is a function of the destructive scan equipment in your pod, and has no bearings on your worth as a sentient being. Your ability to command engines of destruction is a function of your neurocortical implants, which remap the input towards your hypothalamus and the output of your cerebellum, and has no bearings on your worth as a sentient being. Your ability to be transmitted across a fluid router network is cognitive trickery, implanting the memories of a dead man into a new clone, and has no bearings on your worth as a sentient being. Your ability to learn quickly is the engrams and memories of other dead people being grafted onto your cognitive epicycles, and has no bearings on your worth as a sentient being.
Whether you like the idea of being a "baseliner with plugs" is irrelevant to whether the fact is true. Every part of you responsible for making you who you are is functionally indistinguishable from any other human, baseline or not. You are a human.
May you see clearly, Istvaan Shogaatsu-haan. May that power you wield prove no impediment on your path to truth. |

Dunno, I think the problem is being over-thought. No-one complains when cattle are culled, because the folk who are doing the eating consider themselves more deserving than the cattle. The cattle just served a purpose. It's the way it's always been.
