Invest isk into one singel BPO.
What do we have at what NPC prices? Cruiser - around 80mil BC - around 380mil BS - around 1.1bil Carrier - around 1.1bil Mothership - around 18bil ORE Capital - around 3bil Dread - around 2bil Titan - around 75bil
To me it looks like it aint that balanced realy when you compare prices between the ship clases.
And then there is a huge step to MS and Titan ships. What makes this step to be so huge... ? I am not saying that i want to lower prices, rather rais them. A BS bpo should not cost as mutch as a Carrier bpo. A carrier and a dread should be at the same lvl.
Or please explain how the prices are set and why i am wrong :)

I think the BPO price is about the mineral value of 1 ship x 10.

true there... and i guess you are right. But for research ppl it kind of sucks to when you can buy a MS bpo, sell 1 copy every 3 mounth for 4bil. or you buy a carrier bpo and sell it for very little as the materials is the thing that cost alot to build one.
there is nothing in the middle...
sure i would love to invest in a bpo that actually generate some profit that can be spoken of. 100mil profit for 6weeks copy time isent realy doable if you dont sell many many copies...
dont know if it was intended to really research and sell copies. but to me bpo¦s (even t1) should be a bit more exclusive an not something everyone just have to build very little. bpc should dominate the market more when it comes to bigger things than ammo and smaller ships.

Carrier BPO's don't take 6 weeks to copy... they take just slightly over 1 month, at least if you're doing it at a POS.
I don't think the prices are too far off. Carriers are cheaper to build than dreads by almost half, thus their BPO's cost about half as much. I just think it would be cool if there were some higher-end fighting ships. Basically 2 more tiers of non-capital ship. Ships designed all out for combat and they'd cost a crap load to make them. One could be in the 3-4 billion range another in the 10 billion range. But I guess they'd be overpowered in missions... but still... losing one would be really bad on the wallet which would make up for them being better.
This thread just reminded me to buy up a few mothership BPO's to make copies with... prob worth the investment now that I'm bored with making capital ships myself.

the cap ship bpos are closer to the base cost of the item, suppose the reason to that is the 1.x billion capital construction bpos that you have to buy as well.
and imagine if a titan was 10x titan base cost, that would be over 500billion.

Why assume that there should be profit in copying? I'm not saying it shouldn't, but copying has a function regardless of profit. Copies you take to 0.0 so that you don't risk your nice BPO.
More exclusive T1? What, you mean like T2? Yes, that did work out beautifully for the recipients. Everyone else got frustrated.
I liked the days when I was a n00b and I could try copying, and researching. Sure, I only could afford flameburst missile & sabretooth missile bpos, but I got to learn a bit about production etc.
Nowadays? Well, my bitterness has already shown through. Station services are so weighed down with players research that no newb will really get a look into industry. Least the POS renters are happy I guess.
Here's an idea. Actually produce the ship? There is always profit in taking something just 1 step (for instance, buying loot/ore, recycling with skills, reselling resulting minerals) but it should never be a huge amount. You're only taking it 1 step: to ME, or to copy. Complexity is better. I believe this is also how moon minerals etc work. You don't just take it 1 stage and retire.

For capitals you need more than just the ship BPO to produce them (unless you buy the components on the market). That may account for why Carrier and Dreadnought BPOs are so cheap compared to battleships (in relation to the ship prices).
