I would like to put together an empire logistics/transport division for my corp that will be responsible for moving/gathering trade goods in addition to general courier type missions.
What I need to know is if there is any guide threads/links other info out there that will help me get started on the right foot?
So far I think I need a freighter + pilot and a transport + pilot. I suppose I also need them to have some covops skills to get in and out of low-sec and 0.0.
All advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing you'll be needing more contract skills if you don't already have them so you can make more courier contract missions. Not sure on this. Tired of the inane ramblings of the incompetent? Click here |

Thanks I hadn't thought of that but it makes sense.
I am curious as to how to prevent a big hauler from going empty in one direction to get items at the other end. Seems like such a waste of resource and time. On the other hand I don't want to wait till the hauler is full to get my stuff.

If you want to move items from 0.0 or low sec you will need a Carrier pilot as well. freighters are just too vulnerable to take into lawless space. Blockade runners will do the job but carry very small quantities.

Our corp is smallish (30-50) so I don't think we'll be carrier enabled soon. That's part of the reason of this department is to enable moving to 0.0 and support that.
In the near term the plan is to stick to empire and low-sec.
I may be showing my ignorance here but I would think that such large scale operations (empire to 0.0 and vice versa) would be rare and would have plenty of escort.
The situation I am thinking of is more daily routine operations where you may be taking things to or out of a regional empire hub.

With 30-50 people you should have no problem getting the money for a carrier tbh. If you don't manage to raise 15-25mil per member for the greater good of them all then you have a serious problem with your teamwork! It's ofc a different matter if you have no pilot for a carrier yet as the skills for one cost about 900mil aswell.
Personaly, I have done empire -> empire and empire -> low sec supply runs for various corps and alliances. From my experience it's usaly not a problem to get the stuff were you want it. What people have problems with, is determining their needs. The most important thing to a logistics division is in my opinion a system to register and keep track of the supplies needed by your corp. It's really annoying to find out you need 100k rounds of T2 ammo AFTER the supply run.
