Hi Ive signed up for the EVE free trial, but get a game freeze after a few minutes of play.Ive got the required game requirments to run EVE and have the latest drivers for all applicable hardware. The think i have narrowed it down to the fact that i connect to the internet wirelessly, with the main hub being in my housemates room next to mine.i have a Belkin wireless router. Are there any known issue with this affecting the game,do you think that a firmware update would solve my problem?? I also have the same problem when i play half-life 2 which also requires to be conected to the internet.Do you think if i run a cable to the hub and do away with the wireless antenna in my machine this will solve the problem?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Edited by: ScorpyNZ on 10/09/2007 02:16:53 Hi,
Sorry I cannot help, but I may have pieces to your puzzle. Both my friend and I run eve on our pc's, using different modems but both hard wired to a Belkin wireless router. We both have identical laptops which we connect at each others houses using the wireless option. We both run W2000 on our PC's and XP on our laptops.
We have never had a probelm with the PC's, but both laptops had connectivity problems related to XP with our Belkins. After updating the Firmware this solved all, but this was not an eve problem, more an XP problem. There are numerous threads about resetting your cache, you could give this a try.
If it is an issue with the Belkin, it will probably be some compatability settings with your hardware.

What's your default gateway? It might not be 192.168.2.1
I changed mine to 192.168.1.1 because that's the norm nowerdays - try that. ---

Belkin are a pain in the..er..neck.
The website 192.168.2.1 is (If i remember right) a Setup site, where you can change the settings of your hub. You have to be connected via a cable to your router to do this, and change the settings router / card so they communicate.
I use a Belkin for Eve, and HL2, and have no snags at all with them, although it took me a while to set them up. First snag i had, was the card was in place, before i installed the software for it..this causes big problems..
It might be worth uninstalling the card software, and going from scratch...
Just my 0.2isk worth ofc..

The plot thickens :) heres the situation so far:
In my pc i have a USB 'antenna' that wirelessly connects to the router in my housemate room.My housemate turns out to also have an USB 'antenna' wirelessly connecting to the router which sits about 12inches away.So im assuming i cant connect to the belkin set up site, because neither machine is actually connected to the router via a cable,as mentioned in the above post. There is an ethernet cable linking the modem to the router and thats it.Anyone know what my next step should be??
thanks for all the help so far guys.

Your default gateway is your router's network adress.
So open an internet browser(if your wireless connection is connected and active) and go to the router menu at http://192.168.2.1
Check your firmware version and compare it to the website of belkin. If you need an upgrade, make sure you do it with an UTP cable instead of the wireless connection.
Also update your USB Dongle's drivers. Also, make sure that if you use Vista to run Windows Updates and update all fixes and hotfixes.
If after that you still have problems wirelessly, try playing EVE with an UTP cable to your router. If that fixes it, its probably a wireless signal problem. (Wireless signal can be unstable, which is also the reason you shouldnt update firmware wirelessly.)
If that is the case, I ask you: Do you use a Belkin USB Dongle as well? Generally, using the same brand is always the best as you can be sure they have been tested together. You can also try some different wireless Settings in your router, like changing the Channel numer. (You should see an option called "Channel" somewhere in your wireless settings in the router-menu.)
If that fails, you might have interference in the air. In that case, drill a hole thru the wall for a perminent UTP cable.
I hope that helps! And good luck.
PS. In all games its always better to play with an UTP cable instead of over a wireless connection. It is NOT a rare thing for a wireless connection to lose data packets regulary.(Usually 5~10%) Also, if you are a Latency freak, playing over an UTP cable can decrease your latency by 1~50ms.
