I'd like to be able to change it from the website, or possibly just a one skill queue.

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 11/09/2007 19:26:45 I usually know to put a long skill when patchday is here.
Also when downtime comes.
It also sayes "Remember to set a long skill" on the tin. Just because of these.
NOW, EVEN if i didn't do this particularly reasonable thing, i couldn't have lot more then 10-15 hours on training on a really long time. Maybe 10 hours a year on constant playing? If i was really THAT silly not to set long skills.
It's just not THAT long people. One hour here or there.
Anyhoo, skill queue, don't like the idea too much.
BUT, if it comes, then it should stop if the account isn't active.

I say instead of a queue let skills continue past the next level. So if I need to sleep but want to set a 3 hour queue going it can start on the next level in 3 hours time. ----- Visible Implants - good for so many occasions |

Well maybe, just maybe, and i know i'm using a bit of logic here...but when the server crashes for the FIRST time and it's PATCH day, people might want to take those hour skills, put them on the shelf and whip out those mega skills

You're right! I apologize. I'm an idiot. Automating Eve is obviously the best way to go. We wouldn't want people to have to click anything or actually log in to better their character.
Originally by: Adonis 4174 I say instead of a queue let skills continue past the next level. So if I need to sleep but want to set a 3 hour queue going it can start on the next level in 3 hours time.
Nope. Then all I have to do is fund 10 alts for a month, get to BS, let the account lapse, come back in a month or two and have BS V. You can see where this would get bad. ---------------

Although a skill queue would make life easier I don't think it would be a good idea. Here is why:
Your an ISK seller
You create an account, buy all the skills your going to want to train, stick them all in a queue, pay up the account and leave it for 6 months, a year, 2 years whatever. You come back to a few million SP account from basically no effort, even if you have to log back in once every few months, no big problem really...
Then sell your easy charactor for easy cash or ISK
And why do this for just one charactor? It's happening already as a system, someone has just sold a significant number of ready made charactors he "Grew" himself? (though that was totally legal, I think.) Why make it easier?
Then for people who simply want to be able to queue skills over downtime, wouldn't that need the server to be up? (I don't know this is speculation) And so be difficult/impoosible to implement.
Your comments on how and why I am wrong are always appreciated

the most proposed idea is for a skill to train after the one you currently have, not for an entire "plan your character for a year" queue.
and do you really think isk sellers dont have people working 24/7 farming, and thus able to switch queues wherever they want?

I don't see what the problem is with a small skill queue. One of the nice things about Eve is that you're not married to the game, you don't have to be glued to your computer to "level up." Without a skill queue, you DO have to keep training times in mind and almost plan your day around it, which is silly. A small skill queue only two or three skills deep benefits people whose lives are a bit more full than students on summer break, without allowing farmers to take advantage of the system.
Seriously people, everyone here already uses a skill queue (evemon). The only difference between that application and an in-game skill queue is having to personally log in to the game and manually tell the software to train something. To say that difference means something or is invaluable or has some powerful philosophical meaning or something is just absurd.

I feel like the players who do take the time to plan their day around skill switches should be rewarded. I'm not advocating making Eve your wife, but there needs to be some sort of incentive to log on. Just because you can't or won't log that often doesn't mean you should get the same rewards. ---------------

Proof other than the instability occuring over the past 24 hours or so? It goes down occasionally, not "alot". Whines should at least be thought out somewhat instead of all this stupid exaggeration.
EDIT: Hasn't anyone here considered how much easier character farming could become?

"incentive to log on"? like playing the game and having fun?
or you mean incentive to log on at 4am and change a skill?

Only if it goes to the next level on lapsed accounts. Easy to only enable that feature on active accounts.
Besides, I trained Battlecruiser 5 on a lapsed account. That took well over a month. ----- Visible Implants - good for so many occasions |

I myself prefer the dual skill training over skill queues myself. Makes it not as easy for people to "farm" characters and sell them on eBay, but solves the problem of having to be on at the exact moment your skill finishes training, or trying to "aim" your skills to end when you will be on.

I'd not /sign it. TBH, it's already quite simple enough too ensure you're skills are skilling 99% of the time, it seriously doesn't need to be made even more hands-free.
Yes to changing through a web interface though. That'd be highly awesome. ------

Signed. We need skill queues.

I've NEVER seen it say that more than 12 hours in advance. It didn't say it this morning because the servers were still down from last night; hence, the need for skill queues.

I have, many times. Usually on a patch day, so I set a long skill and guess what? No skill time lost. Heh, who would have thought it was so simple?!
