Hardly, server is going down pretty often lately. Today is the patch day, it went down 2 times so far after the patch (if I counted right), but also 2 times before (or 3?). Both costed me hours of training personally, altough I cant say I care much any more, got used to it.
But in the past weeks and months server going down every day or so, especially on weekends, is a pretty normal thing.
It would be optimal if one would always have a 1+ day skill training, so that you'd never actually finish training anything, just have spare time in case server goes down.

Seriously people, everyone here already uses a skill queue (evemon). I feel like the players who do take the time to plan their day around skill switches should be rewarded. I'm not advocating making Eve your wife, but there needs to be some sort of incentive to log on. Just because you can't or won't log that often doesn't mean you should get the same rewards.
Some of us can't plan our days around skill switches, because we plan our days around our lives. Granted, long skill queues would be abused. But having just ONE skill lined up as a backup is not going to make a major difference, and is in fact quite justified given CCP's difficulties in keeping the game up and running (and not just on patch days).

how about let us que up *1* skill for **** like this, my skill finished about 2mins after the server went down the first time, and it went down again before i could even log on. if we could que one skill we could always have a "long" skill ready just in case
im pritty sure every time the server goes down i finish a skill right after :-/ 3rd time in a row it's happned while i've been around. it's kinda annoying

1.If you loose 1-10 hours of skill training it wont be the end of the world,oh noes I lostz 2 seconds of training on mu char,il cancel sub cause I cant play like this! 2.(offering something constructive and possibly the best solution) Make it soo when server goes down for whatever reason,the user can select an alternative skill that will be put in training if the server goes down and the skill that was in training at the time is 10mins away from completing.But ofcourse some random guy will still come here and demand that a skill que system be put.Seriously what next,chars that fly themselves,socialize,do complexes,missions and pvp ... yeah sure let's automize the whole thing,we just have to pay the subscription and log on.

As much as I would like a skill queue I don't think CCP want it. Let's say I'm getting a little bored of EVE which happens to us all. I put 2 30 day skills back to back. Cancel my account and come back two months later when they are done. CCP just lost two months of business.

I dont know if this idea has been thought of already, but how about an advanced learning skill (after all rank 1 learning skills are level 4) that allows you to que 1 additional skill per level in the same skill category.

perhaps another wayis to allow evemon to set the skill training. So when you setup a plan to train something specific, evemon sends this to Eve and queues up the correct skills or automatically starts them as the last one finished

Exactly. For those who are freaked out by the idea of People not logging in for a few seconds to change a skill: note that this would only increase the logging interval by a MAXIMUM of 25%. There's also no "natural" progression to to a 3-, 4-, n-skill queue for the slippery-slope tinfoilers. Just a single skill training until it's complete.
And before anyone starts spouting BS about character farmers: you think those guys don't have macros...?

Because of Real life I can play about 2-3 days a week and am often not at my computer so not having even a simple skill queue is very frustrating, Also, I can't constantly train only long skills, I have tons of skills under 2 days that also need to be trained up. A skill queue is not for everyone, some people are able to play every single day. Good for you guys, you get a cookie. Now give some love to those with lives outside the game that can't play constantly.

or you mean incentive to log on at 4am and change a skill?
Then start a new skill when you wake up, no big deal. If that bothers you, yeah you should maybe consider to wake up at 4am to activate your skill. Miner looking for a job. |

I dont like the que idea. Crashes happen, live with it. I do like the idea of being able to log in to my account page or whatever and change them while at work though. that would be cool.

Umm...you must've mistaken my original point. the "tin" part, was meant as "just for these", as in, "for patch days."

I think someone just made a reasonable suggestion - a -skill- that gives a skill queue? I personally only would like one. At the same time how would you make it so level 5 "skill queueing" doesn't queue 5 skills? What the op wants is his lost skill time due to technical failures beyond his control. I don't think this is a bad thing to ask for, but it is definately right to say it is a difficult thing to find a solution for. Concentration skills? odd idea... Skill queuing would save me all those precious seconds between skills too! omgawd I need all that lost 100 sp!

it in fact is frustrating to change skills when you are starting out where they all are 6hours or less and people are sleeping or at work or school
this would be the only legit reason to allow this
HOWEVER
idea: allow skill queue for a time 12hours in the future.
meaning if your skill will be finished within 12hours the system will automaticly switch skills to the next skill
2 or 3 skills MAX

But you evidently are mistaken, 'cause that never was my argument against a skill queue, was just saying that good planning and observation can save you some trouble(not all).
My argument on skill queue is that it's too easy to offline already. A skill queue would make it easy to set a 60 day sprint and just play something else. Personally.
Also that IF it was implemented, i wouldn't mind, as long as it doesn't come to effect if your account is frozen/etc.

I didn't read everyones post but I have a simple solution (well maybe not).
This is 'only' for when the server is down unintentionally.
In character select you will always have a 'safe-guard' skill selected. This skill will only activate whenever the server has crashed. So whenever server is down by accidental error you know your 'safe-guard' skill is now in training, which would be a 'long skill.'
Doesn't this get around the whole character farming and any other problems?
ETA on server startup at 23:00 GMT "dont look so good does it?"
