again i will point out, that anytime that those small scale games go down, they will be down for more then a day, as in, you would cry what 24x's more per day versus, only maybe an hour here or there with eve. go for it. leave. buh bye, no one is holding your CC for you doooood. Originally by: Zegox I don't know what alternate universe you were playing WoW in to make such a statement. This crap happened like every other week on my server - part of the reason why I switched to EvE. Everybody's getting bent out of shape because they are used to EvE being relatively stable most of the time.
Server queues, months of 30+ second loot lag, some servers suffering from rolling zone and instances crashes for more than a year and until recently their instances servers were strained to the point of instability on many realms. I suffered through months of frustration trying to raid with my guild and it wasn't fun because the frigging instances were crashing several times per night.
Maybe they solved some of the problems by now but then again, I don't care anymore about WoW.

Well yes, but it also needed the obligatory "can I have your stuff".

Originally by: Firkragg Its a hardware problem, every system can suffer from them and there isnt much ccp can do about it. Every MMO can suffer problems like this and on sharded mmo games you wont notices since it might not be your shard that has the problems. Since eve is one server its noticed more since it effects everyone.
So stop claiming that WOW and EQ have 100% uptime since they dont.
I'm trolling now what! that crap above makes no since! Firkragg I'll give you my P.O. BOX so you can reimburse me $20.00 for my addiction. They can do something about it fix for good. If they need to take the system down for a day then do it. It's better then reset or replacing one hardware at a time, whatever. I'm paying money-Do people over Europe have cash to waste, not being cynical just asking?

Edited by: Bizz Lizz on 12/09/2007 02:44:25 Most of the time in most places, everything is fine in EVE. The exceptions are lag in big fleet battles, in heavily populated systems and the occasional server problem usually happening after a patch. I'd say, if you don't participate in fleet battles and don't chose Jita, Motsu and such systems as your home, you are like 99% of your online time not effected at all by any server problems.
I've played WoW on a heavily populated server first and our first Molten Core runs started with lag death and being stuck for hours, because the instances server went down. But we changed to another server and problems disappeared later, maybe also due to improvements. I was playing right after EU release.
Besides that the EVE cluster with a few hundred CPUs handling a few thousand solar systems and the travel between them and 35.000 players there, who all do things that stress the common database, is a bit more complex.

Remember kids, the way to improve server stability is to give the code to another company, which doesn't have 4 years of experience in dealing with EVE. It's the only logical solution. ------ Dei Gloria "God is my shield and protector!" |

No it's not. You cant compare Eve with wow and eq2. The eve server can hold over 30 times as many people as a wow server can
If you take all the wow servers then they do crash more then eve!

Eve doesn't charge you for new content, eve regularly adds new content.
EQ2 releases crappy content all the time and makes you pay for it. Even the little updates that should be free you have to pay for.
WoW hardly ever gets any actual content upgrades. sometimes you get a new BG or something for free. But you pretty much have to wait 2 years for an expansion.
The point of the monthly charge is to fund the servers, and the technical support staff. Eve is one of the fews games left out there that cares more about the experience then making millions in profits. I'm not saying eve isn't making any profits i'm sure they do well. But look at SOE games, and blizzard. It's all about profits and no quality customer support, or free content.
If the only thing in EVE you have to ***** about is the server crashing around patch day, consider yourself lucky. But if you think it's that bad go play EQ2 for a few days. Even after a few years of polish it's still ass.

Like every MMO.
It's the world of MMOs and really something that should be an accepted danger.
This is true. There is no MMo that is perfect, just ones that run well(WoW, GW) and ones that run like crap(EVE).
And to the subject of sharded servers not being comparable to unsharded servers, thats an incredibly dumb point. Why the hell is it ok for unsharded servers to suck? Just b/c they're sharded? who cares if they run a higher workload, they still run like crap.
And to all who claim that sharded servers that crash, crash for long, please prove this, because eve semms to be down for awhile too around patches.
EVE is a great game, but i agree with the op when saying what do I pay for? crappy servers?

Who cares if it holds more? It STILL crashes often and lags even more. That's not acceptable regardless of how good of an idea unsharded servers are.

Blizzard has extremely good customer support in my past experiances. Which is more than i can say for CCP's customer support.

WOW isn't like EVE in a lot of ways, especially server architecture. Hence it doesn't crash like EVE. It's almost as though they're totally different games....
