Hi folks,
I've been playing through a few days of the trial, and bought the Commissioned Officer's Edition of Eve (but am planning on finishing out my trial before activating that).
That said, I am looking into an eventual corporation to join, and the only one I have researched and know anything about is Eve University.
What I am unsure of is if Eve University is a corporation for long-term membership, or if it is strictly geared towards new players learning the ropes, and once those are learned, most players move on to join other corporations.
I found a list in doing initial research on Eve, but a lot of the links to info on various corporations were dead, or no longer valid.
Is there a current list of updated (active) corporations anywhere, or do you folks have any suggestions on corporations to join?
Thank you! |

There is an ingame recruitment system.
You can find it using one of the panels of the captain's quarters screen or via the corp window.

Don't pay to join a corp. If you have to pay, it's probably a scam. FuzzWork Enterprises http://www.fuzzwork.co.uk/ Blueprint calculator and other 'useful' utilities. |

There is in game recruitment and there is also a corp recruitment forum.
It is hard as the choosing of a corp is a big deal and will probably determin your level of enjoyment in EvE. Make sure what ever corp you do join you get to know them first. Most corps will have a public chat channel you can join and ask questions. Get to know them and maybe fly with them before joining.
Some questions to ask.
1) what time zone are you most active in? 2)how many are active during your play time 3)What do you focus on in EvE 4)What sort of noobie programs do you offer(eg free ships and skill books) 5)Do you use a voice chat program(ie vent team speak)
Looking for a mature, adult gaming community that has been active in EvE since 2004?Recruitment is open! Come join our public channel and get to know us. SGHQ-PUBLIC http://sgeve.dai-coar.com/ |

Don't forget to ask what the corp will expect from you as a member. You might not want "attend all ops regardless of time" regime and perhaps a "don't care, whatever mate" response isn't going to provide the structure a new player sometime needs.
At some point you'll have to make a decision, join or not. Just remember that, as long as you've followed the advice on avoiding scams, you don't lose anything from giving a corp a go. If in a day/week/month it's not what you want, you can leave. Finding a home is sometimes a long process. |

As I'm a dedicated recruiter for some time now I have a lot of tips and tricks to find a right corp:
First of all, take your time to find a corp. Search for multiple corps in EVE that you think are the ones you really like, don't just jump into the first corp you see on a list it might not be the best one.
When you have a list of corps that you consider to join do some research on them. With research I mean take a look at their history (how old is the corp, which alliance is it in (or has it been part of in the past). Also you could use evemaps.dotlan.net and evewho.com to check more info on the corp (dotlan has graphs on for instance how many people are in the corp, so you can see if it's a growing or shrinking corp etc. Evewho.com has a list of all known members in that corp, so you can see who is in there and check these members out a bit in EVE).
Last tip. Most (if not all) corporations in EVE have a dedicated recruitment / public channel (usually listed in the corp description), join those. Most of the time the recruiters of the corp are active in it and sometimes even the general members hang around, if you are lucky there might even be old-corp members in there (usually a good sign as they left the corp but still keep in touch with them, which means they left on good terms). In these recruitment / public channels you can ask any question you might have for the corp and in the same time get to know a couple of people who are part of the corp so when you join not everybody in corp-chat is a stranger to you.
Here are some basic questions you can/should ask when you are talking to a new corp: 1.) What is your main time-zone? *It's best if their main time-zone is the same as yours* 2.) How many players are active at this moment? *If the corp is say 120 people in size but only 3 are online usually you are out of their prime time-zone or it has a lot of inactive members / alts* 3.) What is the main focus of the corp? *No need to join a PvP corps if you like to be a miner* 4.) What services does the corp supply? *Ship replacement, logistics to move stuff around, etc.* 5.) What is the attitude of the corp? *Are they real-life first or hardcore EVE players who think EVE is a fulltime job* 6.) How do you communicate? *chat only, eve voice, 3rd party voice comms [TS3, Mumble, Vent]* 7.) Are there any requirements to join? *Some corps have a minimum amount of SP you need to have, this is mainly to minimize spy risks and maximize your survivabilty in for instance null-sec / WH-space*
Under NO circumstances pay anybody money to join a corp, it will always be a scam. Also when you join a corp that pushes you into shipping your stuff by others, first try it out with small stuff. See if they don't steal it. Upgrade from small to larger more expensive stuff in small steps. And always keep 1 or 2 ships in a spot you like, just in case something bad happens, so you can always return to your safe station and use those 1 or 2 ship(s) to start over.

+1 to the massive wall of text of massive massiveness.
I was a recruiter for my old corp for a while, and am now leading my own corp, and all of that is good advice.
