Whenever ambulation is brought up, there is a torrent of whines, and people almost claiming that they will quit eve if ambulation arrives.
Why is this? Ambulation is developed by a different group than the people in charge of fixing drones, lag, and the ui anyways...
So it is basicaly just more content, free of charge.
It's great being Amarr isn't it.

Because people will whine about anything. And seems to have this idea that only one thing can happen at a time. And if it isn't the one thing they want, then the temper tantrum comes.

i guess because people would prefer CCP to fix the existing problems with the game before adding new ones.

Some people are so terrified of going outsider irl that they are almost equally afraid to go outside in a virtual environment. Imagine they accidentally click on the wrong button and find themselves in a simulated social environment. The horror.

As long as they can program a "Grab Ass" emote, and "Smash Bottle Over the bloke's head" emote, I would be happy.

I don't hate it, I just don't care about it even slightly.
I'd rather have one spelling/display error corrected in in game text than have ambulation. ----------- Support fixing the EVE UI Drones should not aggro anything missiles or turrets do not. |

If it done badly, we'll just end up with a whole bunch of ppl docked up forever and kind of playing another game. This would be almost like sharding the server but we'd end up with thousands of different shards, which none of us really wants, do we?
At least, thats my worst fear about it. However, they might have said this isn't going to be the case already. I don't know since I havent read much about it.

No. It's because they cannot see what it will add to the game apart from eye candy, and Eve is so much more than just another game filled with meaningless eye candy.

People be proud of their spaceship game, and worry that if CCP start designing Ambulation, it'll make it...er...less spaceshipy. More mainstream, at the very least.
Which is *******s really. Not only does Ambulation have little or no effect on the current EVE game, but it is something new and extra. For FREE. On top of that, they're developing it for their upcoming World of Darkness MMO anyway, so it'd be gosh darned wrong not to put it to good fuse for we EVE players too. ------

See, if these whiners would take the time to read dev blogs and interviews and such, they would realize that ambulation is much, much more than walking eye candy. The concepts of corporate offices with npc greeters that will run through a programmable dialog tree, personal stores, bars, casinos, ect are going to open up whole new areas of game play.
It's going to be *****in' and I can't wait. ---------------

As they're already developing this for the WoD MMOG, it makes sense developmentally to make it compatible with EVE.
Further, I like the idea of owning my own club, and having a snazzy corporate office for PTSSS. In fact, I'm left wondering how I'm going to brand it all! Do I do a smokey gambling joint? A clean-cut corporate club? A dark and intimate club with private rooms for Caldari loyalists or corporate meetings? Or do I do opulence?
Further, how do I make money on this all? ;D

Sorry, what? Let's check that list again..
Corporate offices - already exist NPC greeters - no function that isn't covered by a website Personal stores - selling what exactly? Clothes? lol Bars - looool - drink pixels and pretend they're tasty! Casinos - Yeah maybe but again already covered by IGB sites Whole new areas of gameplay - where?
Don't get me wrong, I'm undecided, but I have yet to see what it will add to strategic gameplay.
Now if you're into roleplaying, which I am, then it may add something, but Eve has always been more than mere pantomime.

i am sure if CPP adds in the elements to build such establishments, there could be ISKs to be made. but if the only service you provide is a place to hang out, i am not sure how popular it would be, especially if everyone could just make their own.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
Originally by: Tommy TenKreds Corporate offices - already exist
An icon with your corp name and description under some tab in station is hardly what I, nor CCP, have in mind.
Originally by: Tommy TenKreds NPC greeters - no function that isn't covered by a website
In game, in station greeters will market to the casual browser. Your website will only get hits from corp members, war targets, or people you send that way. Also, IGB and OOG links take away from immersion.
Originally by: Tommy TenKreds Personal stores - selling what exactly? Clothes? lol
This is the attitude that kills me. Where has is ever been stated that stores can only sell clothes and puppies and sunshine? Why not battleships, implants, hookers, and beer?
Originally by: Tommy TenKreds Casinos - Yeah maybe but again already covered by IGB sites
The immersion issue again, as well as the added security that will come with a CCP endorsed gambling venue. Harder to scam.
Fixing bugs is not a problem solved by simply throwing more people at it, in fact it can have the opposite effect of slowing things down or introducing even more bugs.
Ambulations? Lemme gotta tell you 'bout ambulations. Seems like every time I'm about to dock, along comes one of these ambulations with the lights aflicker and the sy-reens blaring. And I gotta pull over and miss a cycle or else CONCORDE gonna gimme a hard time and then my insurance goes up for six years. All because of ambulations.
Don't even get me started on Absolutions. That's Amarr only and not for a couple patches. TANSTAAFL |
Because we already have enough "players" in this game that think of it as nothing more than a chatroom with a fancy gui. They also think that the only point to gaming is to hit on dudes that pretend to be chicks online.
This is why they create BS terms like "pvp" so they can then deem themselves "non-pvpers" and thus non-combatants(as if such a role could ever exist in a video game). This allows them to go hit on dudes all the time instead of actually playing.
Do we really need more dudes that drool over guys playing as (simulated) females?
