Is she Korean as in fresh off the boat Korean, or Korean as in "I was born and raised in England, and went to English schools" after my parents immigrated here from Korea?
tl;dr Korean by culture versus just Korean by genetics?

First thing is you shouldn't confuse Korean culture with Japanese culture. Japanese culture is "polite," in that you don't say what you really think. Keeping the peace is primary. Very pleasant, but can be a little aloof and distant ultimately.
Korean culture is about the opposite. Rough and tough, they come right at you and say what they think. Sometimes too abrupt, so it seems rude. They don't mean anything by it, they talk that way to each other too. But can hack off a Western person at first. But after you get to know each other, Koreans are open and generous and really down to Earth. A lot of them are devote Christians, so they at least try to be honest and treat people right. Here's a Korean thing: If you go to a restaurant in Korea, you'll likely see a couple of businessmen fighting at the cash register. Growling at each other and pushing and shoving. WTH? Turns out they're fighting over the bill-- winner pays, loser doesn't get to pay. : )

Uuuhm, so people who aren't Christian treat people wrong and all Christians are friendly folks who by default are honest?

Koreans are a very curious lot of people, my experiences with them have been of straightforwardness with a touch of ritualistic behavior as odd as it might sound.
Also avoid Nkorea topic, it's like asking for your aborted fetus, the one you had to abort because you were young and were not prepared to deal with.
Hmm I need more Korean friends , not many here in Panama.

Or, in this case, religion, whatever. You can be an atheist and still be more "Christian" in actions than a Christian fundamentalist, I would propose. I can only assume he meant that they are more likely to follow the "spirit" of new testament Christian teachings (as in, helpful, charitable, generous, forgiving, etc) than the "letter" of the old testament part of it (as in, bible-thumping, stone-the-infidels and burn the witch kind of way). http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Contributor_name:Akita_T#Contributions_link_collection |

Expect someone to be all up in your business giving you recommendations on how you should live your life, which can also get fairly personal.
It's actually more a sign of friendliness over there rather than intrusiveness. |

Oh, you were being serious?
My appologies for insinuating that she would uncontrolably laugh at an imaginary broadway musical collection that your clearly do not own because you are butch and manly.
My experience with Germans and Koreans suggests that domestic arguments will be minimal, as she will be neat and tidy with a routine that allows for predictability.
Koreans have a great sense of humour, also...which may be the only area that you clash in.

You can have a lot of fun with Asians by e.g. saying they're from Vietnam, China, Japan, North Korea etc. when you're introducing them to someone else and they're really from South Korea (get it wrong every time, use varying countries). You have to look dead serious though.

As long as you don't offer any koreans a salted liquorice as throwing up seems to be their first reaction to it ... Kind of odd from people that eat living octopussies and everything else that still walks or crawls from the looks of it. |
