Edited by: Nightfreeze on 15/09/2007 16:34:23 I post often here under a different name. Some of you may have read the story I wrote a while ago, The Great Scam, a story about how I scammed a group of people in the early days of EVE out of hundreds of millions of ISK (a HUGE sum at the time). It was a story flexible EVE can be and how the structure of the game allows for an unprecedented level of interaction.
I quit EVE a while ago but started again around this March, and have honed my skills as a trader since then and am about to pass the 20 billion ISK point. I currently make a lot of ISK per day in the game, but I'm always thinking of ways to enhance my avg. daily income. And I came up with one way that is discreetly unscrupulous and a few people already do it, but is by no means well-known or widespread. I won't post the method here, but I will tell you about its results.
Using this method, I scammed a Polish guy, let's call him Poldrunk, out of an item that's worth 90 million ISK. I quickly sold the item, patted myself on the back, and went back to trading. For the rest of the day though, I was uneasy with myself. I felt like something was missing inside of me. My integrity and sense of character. The thing that allows me to walk up to people and stare them in the eye and remain confident in the face of conflict.
I quickly realized what caused this feeling.. it was my scamming some stupid guy out of 90 million space bucks. I've been putting the whole scammer/sketchy guy identity behind me and I have been living a better life ever since. When I came back to play EVE that day, I sent Poldrunk a message asking him if he would be more careful in the future. He responded graciously, saying that he would. I sent him back 60 million ISK (ok maybe the identity isn't TOTALLY behind me) and he became the most appreciative human being I've ever seen through online communication.
It felt good.

It wasn't until May that I got the hang of trading, and it was interspersed with numerous breaks during which I had no internet/computer access (traveling Europe, working in the woods, etc).

Heh, I could have predicted this exact reply once I burst your bubble. Just because I wasn't impressed with your 20 bil profit doesn't mean most people here wouldn't have been. You don't have to try to impress me.

There you go again. If you really didn't feel threatened by my post you'd not have bothered to waste two replies on it now. First you scam to make money, then you decide to somewhat go legit... but you wanted this to be something people were impressed with. The second someone wasn't you had to defend why you didn't make more money.
Next I'll assume that you are going to tell us you make some large amount of ISK per day and you are actually nearing 30 bil, not the 20 bil you first mentioned. Face it, you scammed to get where you are... unless you have given back all that money you scammed then it's kind of pointless to expect anyone here to think of you as anything but.

I'm trying to figure out what that is supposed to be. I think I know what he would like it to be... but if so it is rather short and sad.

Would that be internet-spaceship fiction, internet fiction, post-modern fiction, or simply real-life fiction to which you were referring?

I guess I mean fiction as in the opposite of fact, that the things that happen in the story did not happen in the game.

I'm trying to divine the point of this post...
The options are thus: a) Shameless ego boosting 2) A fish for a pat on the back. "There there, ex scammer, you're legit now. You're totally 31337." They would say. III) A search for some kind of respect... or a search for an opportunity to flame.
No matter whether any of the above are correct, (and our author would of course never admit to any of them being correct) it is apparent that the author should probably get back to trying to achieve the 20bil mark, and GAFL.

it kind of flattened it a little and then Shadarle provoked him out into the open.
So in all blowing his cover probably wasn't worth the cheap thrill this thread has provided. Guess he needs to go buy another character now.

You're right on all three counts. But I think it's a bit hypocritical to post 'get a life' when you're reading a forum about the market dynamics of internet space ships.

Awww, someone is getting a bit testy. It's so cute how quickly scammers return to their old mannerisms. Anyone wanna take a bet if he has scammed anyone since he was informed that his trading profits have been rather low?

I don't know how this got into a discussion of my relationship with Galgorth's mom. Frankly she wasn't memorable enough to waste time talking about. Like mother like son though, as she managed to scam me out of a quarter for her efforts! What a scam... I should have been the one getting payed for that pitiful encounter.
This discussion should stay on the topic of Galgorth being a self-admitted scammer, instead of turning into a discussion of his mom.
