I'm just wondering if there is any way of running a windowed client of EVE with a custom resolution since the ones available aren't quite what I want. Setting the screen to a customised resolution would make that option show in EVE, but I don't have that possibility. It seem like the config.ini was used for custom resolution, but options were removed from it since it were saved in different place or since it wasn't needed. Well, it's needed so the question is where the resolution is saved? and is it editable? |

Add required resolution to Your card list. With Detonator drivers, it is possible through nvidia control panel add-on. Hope it is possible with other mnufacturers' drivers too. -- Thanks CCP for cu<end of sig> |

Littl addition: If You can't find required resolution when You set full/win to "win" - switch it to "full", select req. resolution and switch back to "win". Do not touch resolution field even if it displays "wrong" resolution after that. You'll be fine once You apply Your changes. -- Thanks CCP for cu<end of sig> |

I'm using an ATi-card on a laptop, so wanna stick with the drivers from ASUS (since ATi doesn't support their own mobility cards...) and with those there is no option to use the resolution I want for EVE. I'm hoping the config-file for the account could be edited for customised resolution but I havn't found out what data to edit. Otherwise I'll hope some more resolutions will show up next time I get new drivers.
But thx for the suggestion thou'

Then look for my older post describes a bit of bithacking to user_XXX.dat file.
Also look at related thread containing some additional links. -- Thanks CCP for cu<end of sig> |

Thanks, that helped a lot. Only problem was to understand what values to use for screensize but I figured it out . For those who might be interested in how to use a custom resolution then see the link from Tonto Auri. When you've found those 2 INT values (INT in programming language means a number with a value from 0-255, in this case written i HEX so 00-FF) then the second value stands for how many 256 goes into the size you want. Let's say you want 1680 in width, in 1680 there's place for 6x256=1536; 7x256=1792 would be too much. So add 06 as the second INT value. OK, this gives the size 1536, but we wanted 1680, then take the difference between the numbers: 1680-1536=144 and add that value in the first INT (need to be in HEX, and the calculator in windows can be used to convert DEC to HEX, make sure it's in advanced mode, select Dec if it's not that already, write in the number, then click Hex and it should be written in Hex instead. In this case 144=90 in HEX) wich is 90. So the values you should add to get 1680 in width is 90 06 wich isn't so obvious at first sight. Kinda easier when you could just write 1680 and 1050(or whatever you would want for height with that) at correct options in prefs.ini and then it would be done..
I hope this info can be of use for someone else

I'd add one word. Your best bet is to keep resolution roughly divided by 8. I.e. prefer 1080 over 1084 (even if 1084 looks way better for You). It will save Your head whenever You accidentally switch to fullscreen with that resolution. Good chance it will be suported by videocard. Have it checked with my Gf6200 and 1160x1080, 1160x1088, 1160x1040 all was ... usable... at least i've been able to switch back to windowed mode without wipeing all my settings. -- Thanks CCP for cu<end of sig> |
