As described in torturous detail here.
Despite having Heavy Drone Op V and Gallente Drone Specialization IV I've pretty much given up on using my Dominix with Heavy drones.
They're simply far too slow. They take forever to get to target, any time there's drone aggro you're going to lose at least one because they take 60 seconds to get back home and while doing so they have a 500m sig radius. Instant battleship food.
For any long range combat they're worse than useless. If you get stuck with them out at 74km and need to deploy some lights to take care of a scrambler....too bad.
CCP, if you guys could find some way to make Heavy Drones faster without making them overpowered that would be awesome. Because for now? My dominix is mothballed.
I've gone back to easy mode missions with a Raven. It was a pleasure not to have to micromanage stupid, willful, slow drones. And not having to get in range or worry about transversal. Just sit there and spam missiles and maybe employ some sufficiently fast medium drones. I was done with two missions in the time it took me to do one in my Dominix. Despite having about 100 less raw DPS. ----------- Support fixing the EVE UI Drones should not aggro anything missiles or turrets do not. |

Sentries. Now available in T2 version, you can also upgrade damage with rigs and its easy to get range up to about 100-130km with 2 omnidirectional trackings.
Drone navigation computer. With 2 of them, drones are about 50% faster.
Also, Ogres are the slowest large drones. Try Berserkers :)
And damage is not bad. 600 DPS is ok, and you still have 6 high slots, you can put guns for more damage :)

As already told by several people in torturous detail in the other thread: They're not meant for long range work. Sentries take care of that.
You're trying to cut fresh baked bread with a spoon and complain it doesn't work. Go figure.

If they're not meant for long range work, why do they have the same control range as every other drone? ----------- Support fixing the EVE UI Drones should not aggro anything missiles or turrets do not. |

For exactly the same reason there is nothing preventing you from using a spoon to cut bread.

Because there's only one drone control range that affects all drones and it would be nothing but a time and isk sink to split up the skills, modules, rigs and implants to 4 or 5 drone control ranges?

Have you tried the drone interfacing or drone navigation skills??? :P
But yes, heavies are still a little WAY to slow for how paper thin they are.

Why can I activate my blasters on targets at the same range as my rails?
Either my blasters can't hit that far or my rails can't track, what gives CCP!!!

well this isn't really a perfect solution as for the missions he's doing the npc pirate faction, assuming caldari/gallente, is probably weak to kin/thermal--using explosive drones while faster in flight would be even more counterproductive than a raven ___ Eve Players are not very smart. 2/10 for effort but the lack of punctuation ultimately did more harm than good, see me after class ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Support Killmail Overhaul
