T2 are better because they get a larger bonus to probe scan strength, but a t1 should be able to scan down anything in high-sec with a bit of practice and mid. skills. investing in your cov-ops ships is one of the best things you can do. skills, isk, and time put into practicing scanning. i couldn't tell you how many times i've wished i'd had been the scout in my cov-ops ship in both logistic running (wh route finding) and pvp situations. the time you save and the opertunites you gain by having a maxed out scanner are priceless. |

Truth be told, for strictly high sec business I prefer my Imicus to the Helios, as I can actually clear radar sites reasonably well. I can't comment on the other races' scanning frigates. But in general, for high sec you don't need the extra scan strength, and unless you're wardecced the covops cloak doesn't really help you either.
Neither will do a 3/10 site. But, if all you are doing is scanning, the covert ops ship is clearly the stronger choice. |

The t1 gallente frig will clear radar sites nicely, carries 3 drones and each level gives you a bonus to drone control range so you can range tank if need be, stick a couple of grav rigs in there to help with the probe strength and you will be set to go.
I cant emphasise enough on how important scanning technique is though... more important than the ship from my experience |

+1 on the imicus for high sec. The 3 drones and ship bonus outweigh the slightly better scan strength of the t2 ships. In a similar vein, the Magnate carries 2 drones but can fit a small repper. |

If all you want to do with the ship is probe scan then, you are able to get better scanning performance from a bonused t2 covops frigate than the t1 counterpart. A t3 setup to scan can be better again.
Practice & experience, skills trained, equipment used, and implants fitted will also contribute to your probe scanning efficiency.
If you only want to scan in hisec then the additional benefits of a T2/T3 scanner ship (especially covops cloak, but possibly also T3 nullifier) are not so important. All the same being able to fly covops cloakies is a humungous capability once you start moving out of hisec, and is also very handy in hisec.
If you want to do other stuff with the ship ... such as setup an all-in-one scanner / shooter / salvager ... and you have good scanning skills, then other ship types may be perfectly adequate for your needs. I used a multi-function thrasher for a while when I first started hisec scanning exploration ... but quickly moved to using a two-ship fleet with a dedicated scanner / salvager (etc) and a dedicated shooter.
We can build and sell pretty much every ship. Check my bio for details. Our pirate epic arc completion packages really are very good: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=12973&find=unread |

Get into a covops. You will get a much stronger scanning bonus, and the ability to warp cloaked, which is utterly invaluable whenever you want to go WH diving. Also: you get a stealth bomber out of the deal too. Nice, huh? |

Thank you for all of the inputs. Still tweeking my skills and refining how to scan has been part of the problem for me. I've watched the video's but have had little to no luck discerning which is which on the sites. As the old saying goes, "Practice makes perfect..." |

i believe the question was for 'highsec'scanning' of which a cov ops is not as necessary, aside from the obvious bonuses to probe strength, they are not as useful for 'solo' highsec exploration due to their inability to run sites as effectively as their t1 counterpart |
