I know it's not new, but it just popped back into my mind, and I felt like writing my thoughts down. So here it goes: In order to make salvaging a real (mini) profession, and to put destroyers out of their misery, there should be a new ORE type of ship.
Let's call it the "Scavenger" class.
Design parameters: - Speed like a cruiser, around 200 m/s - About 1500 m¦ cargohold - 2 low slots (very ORE'ish) - 2-4 med slots, probably 3 - 5 or 6 high slots - Weak defence. There can be a T2 variant for deep 0.0 duty. - CPU reduction for ORE class salvager and tractor beams - +10% ORE tractor beam range per lvl - -7,5% ORE salvager cycle time per lvl - Ship and/or modules require Salvaging 4 or 5 and Survey 5. Maybe some additional skills that make sense and/or are rarely trained. Overall, new chars should have to train a while, probably 2-4 weeks before they can use it. - Not trainable on trial acconuts
ORE salvager 7500 m range 8 sec cycle time
ORE tractor beam (instead of impementation of medium tractor beam) 40 km range 750 m/s max tractor velocity
Well I guess this would be a nice replacement of the 'Salvroyer', but not overdone. It should require some training, comparable with mining barges, to make it a real profession toy and keep instant alts from being created and using it right off the bat.
Comments welcome.

Uhm ok.. yeah that's probably not much at all. But at least it's not instant. I would have written 2-3 months, but didn't want to cause too much commotion about that detail.
Anyway.. WTF Exequror? Someone hasn't read the design, at, all, I guess. Tripple range, double efficiency, more cargo.. but oh well, feel free to still use the Exeq.
Regarding ORE or not ORE. Well that's a detail. Make some other suggestion. Perhaps some Minmatar corp? It's just that ORE is an all industrial corporation, and many big companies branch out into new markets. On a side note: ICE also isn't ORE, you know Nit-picking is very unconstructive and solves nothing.

... isnt the exequror "500% bonus to range of remote armor repair systems."
or does the tractor beam get included in the remote armor repair group?

nope - a tractor beam is a compleately different thing
I posted my thoughts about such a ship quite a few hours ago into another thread. So I c&p my crap into here too :)
Originally by: Myself I really like the idea of an salvage ship. For me it's an industry class like ship with 6 or 8 high slots, one med and a few low slots. This ship is just a "simple" ship which can't do much but salvaging and loot items. Don't forgett that this ship is like a scrap dealer in space. This ship don't have to get high resistences or gunnery slots. This shoud'nt be an uber-1337-"i can do all"-Ship. It should just do perfectly for which it was produces: salvaging + looting. For this reason it needs a decent cargo (approx. 1k). This cargo is enough for this situation and dont make it an uber-hauler. If you need more cargo - then use expander/rigs to extend the cargo a little.
I really like to see such a ship in eve. We have tons of war-vessels so far. I think we need a some kind of new alternative ship classes like this one. Such an salvage ship can have bonus to tractor-speed and/or range. But since I saw the medium and large tractors in the eve-DB with enhanced ranges I think the speed bonus is a good choice for such a ship. The ability to fit medium tractors (40km range) and more tractor-speed per skill level (maybe 20% per level to get the 40km cans in the same time as you currently get the 20km cans).
Just my thoughts about this

Nice Idea but...
/not signed until 'Salvaging' is finally fixed. ---------------------------------------------- The glass is neither half full nor half empty. It's just twice as big as it need to be... |

Salvage thieves are minor problem I guess, You can move to 0.0 and shoot them without any special thief marking mechanics :)

Hello all,
Interesting concept, but a Destroyer already does this well enough. Here's this idea in a different light:
New Module for Barges: Gravity Well Fits on a high slot for barges, and they get the same discount as for a Strip Miner/Ice Harvester, and the CPU is higher too.
All of your wrecks/cans within 100 km are dragged to your ship at 1km/s. Once they get to 1km, they are salvaged (with a 0% base chance).
Result: the Procurer now becomes in demand. Run the mission, grab the Procurer, and salvage/loot the whole mish in one go.

yeah! and we just need a ship fittet a Doomsday like device - getting into the mission, press one button and all is dead. Flying back, grab this uber-salvage-ship, return to the battleground, press the next button and all ist salvaged/looted/and clean. Makes lvl IV mission just to take 10 minutes to finish. Fine! ~20mill in 10 minutes. Why not
tbh: isn't this a bit TOO easy? I think we just have to do something to get our salvage and loot. Not just sitting in a ship in a centre of a 100km circle (200km diameter!) and finish all by pressing one button. A specialized ship (like we want to discuss here) is just a ship to make it a little easier as it currently is if you use a destroyer. But a little work you have to do for youe money. Thats my thoughts about this
