Edited by: Haldir Ravenclaw on 22/09/2007 04:05:57 Just as the title says, worth training for the T2 Caldari heavy drones? (Wasp II's I think)
As a note, I run a pretty solid L4 mission Dominix, and can already use Ogre and Berserker II's. The Berserker's are excellent on Angel missions, but I'm just getting fed up of the Ogre II's being... well, most drone users know the reasons for them (slow and generally stupid)
If I know I'm fighting fixed spawns in L4 missions, Ogre II's kill Sansha, Blood Raiders and most things pretty quick, but wondering if it's worth trying Caldari T2 heavy drones instead? I work for Amarr corps so I mainly get Sansha and Blood Raiders, with a touch of Angels/Minmatar, Serpentis and Gallente.
At the worst, I can train it up anyway (same for Amarr Drone Specialisation). Comments welcome

If you've got heavy drones V already I don't see why you wouldn't train caldari/amarr specs up a bit too, versatility never hurts to have (and wasps are a lot cheaper than ogres)

vs sansha and blood you should be using praetor IIs and vs angels its berserker IIs...
I really dont understand this ogre II fetish, sure... their base damage is slightly higher but they are so slow you could fall asleep accidentally. Wasp, berserker and praetors drones actually do more damage than ogres vs their racial opponents and are alot quicker and accommodating than ogres.
If you got a fight vs serpentis or gallente, sure... launch your ogres and see some nasty damage but you are not that much worse off using explosive damage (berserkers) because they are armor tankers and their explosive resistance sucks too. So generally ogres are only doing more damage to serpentis or gallente shields. . |

Um, no. Bloods/Sanshas generally have a 10% higher thermal resist than EM, but the Ogre II's damage modifier is far higher than 10% more than that of the Praetor II... 1.92 compared to 1.38. Yeah, Praetors are faster, but if you're flying a Domi correctly there shouldn't be much travel time involved with your drones, as you should be using sentry drones until npc's get close.
To OP: Wasp II's will help you with Mordus Headhunters. I don't use them for any other missions.

No. T2 Sentries do not require drone specialization skills.

I'm currently fying lvl 4 missions in a Myrmidon and was wondering the same thing last week. One of the problems is that the training time can be used in far more effective ways. Getting your racial drone skill up to 5 takes close to a month, as Zo5o mentioned, Praetor IIs aren't much/any better. Even if i where to send them over distance of 50-100km, the speed increase doesn't outweigh the damage potential, i would prefer to put that months worth of training in gunnery (my lasers need some loving) or damage resistance (need more shields and shield resistance).

I mostly end up with Sansha and Blood missions and I've swapped to Infiltrators rather than Hammerheads, because Infils are much faster. Imo you can see the difference when using medium drones on frigs to cruisers as there is often much drone travelling between the ships. --- Member of the Danish Evefan.DK corp |

T2 heavies only take racial drone spec 4, not 5, which is, for me, less than 4 days each for both level 3 and 4.

I use Wasps more often than Ogres simply for their speed-to-target advantage over Ogres. Their 'on paper' dps is sometimes lower, but since they get to the target considerably quicker (with less hmm-let's-go-over-there-instead silliness), their actual dps is higher.
I just double check in elfarto's db for npc resists on named ships to make sure the npc doesn't have a crazy-high kinetic resist.

That and the other drones have higher tracking than the ogres...so although their dmg modifier may be a bit smaller, the tracking helps considerably

No, it's not. You don't need any drone spec skills for any of the T2 sentries, you just need L5 sentry. _

Drone Shields won't regenerate as soon as you scoop them into the Drone Bay after Revelations III.
