Does anyone actually 'roleplay' in this game? If you do, what is your role?
Thanks!

We all roleplay. We roleplay people that have had neural augmentation to mentally control spacecraft and occasionally wake up in clone vats. Some go further to be staunch supporters of the Amarr Church, Amarr hating Freedom Fighters (Minmatar), Loyal members of the State (Caldari) and freedom loving Gallente. Pirates may also join in the role play with some well chosen dialog during an attack/ransom demand. (Just saying Yarr doesn't quite cut it)
Roleplay is what you make it. _______________________________

its definately an RP game, infact its easier to RP, because you can literally be yourself, and thats your character, there are few morals and little rules in the eve world, so theres endless posibilities to RP.
RP doesn't have to be all magic, axe's and poncy elves (most elves are poncy anyway hehe) ;)

There's a fair bit of RP going on.
Some of the threads on the Intergalactic Summit section of this forum qualify as RP, and there's a thread for RP corps in the Recruitment section.

the roleplaying in EVE is big, big enough to take over an entire 0.0 region and hold it (kudos CVA). Take some time to learn about EVE's backstory and learn about each race's quirks. Find one that will be compatible with your actual game goals, and go for it. -

For me the RP element in Eve is very different to games I have been used to and the games the market is filled with i.e. Fantasy and magic themed. However I cant think of any game that has so much politics and business management, corporation, command.. (could go on) etc etc
As a newbee myself its taking some adjustment to get out of my old mindset from previous games that I have played, but I think its well worth it.

It is supposed to be, but in some ways it resembles real life so much that people start confusing the two.

CCP only claims it to be a MMOG not a MMORPG.
From official FAQ: "1.1 What is EVE Online?
EVE is a massive multiplayer online game (MMOG) set in a science-fiction based, persistent world. Players take the role of spaceship pilots seeking fame, fortune, and adventure in a huge, complex, exciting, and sometimes hostile galaxy."
That said I see much more roleplay in eve than all other mmorpgs I have tried added together. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Meh, I wouldn't say that tbh.
The key is in realizing that we all play roles in this game, whether its your own personal real-life role of playing a pilot in a spaceship game and blowing other people up to have fun, or playing another role and trying to behave as that character would. In ways, everyone is an RPer here .

Second QFT.
RP does happen in EVE, most definitely. And one of the great things about EVE is that you can RP and not have to try and sound "Olde Englishe" (You can if you want, just don't be surprised when people leave a wide berth between them and you in the bar). ----------------------------------------------

Well since this a space game, the RP part is what you want it to be. To a certain extent using and of George Calins 7 dirty words could be perfectly ok. Or making Star Ware/Star Trek references.

That's prolly because most other RPG's have a decent story backdrop to give you the "immersion" feel. EVE seems to have a bunch repeat "quests" that cycle names arround and at best a bunch of short stories that you have to dig for outside the game itself.
I think the idea is a "sandbox" for the players to make their own stories mostly...but it could be that CCP didn't have enough money to hire writers.

Every players action in game is the story. Thats the immersion. Read COAD, view the changing of the influence maps - theres the story... thats where the RP comes from. imo at least.
