Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 25/09/2007 06:53:04 Wait.... there ARE capital spawns in zero aren't there? Drones of Annihilation reported killing an officer carrier from the Archangels with a 1.1 billion ISK bounty in the Fall of 06.

it strikes me odd that you can kill npc carriers in lowsec (lvl 5 missions) but not in 0.0.

I'm actually going to disagree with this for 2 reasons:
1) This breaks the tankability of the Hulk. The Hulk is specifically designed to tank any 0.0 spawn so that miners can safely mine any belt.
2) If you're casually ratting, it's going to suck to warp in to a belt and either find something you can kill, or get blown away by a super-spawn that nails you before you get out of the belt. It's not like you can see NPCs on the scanner. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic EVE Automated Influence Map: Keeping Down The Clone Business Since 2007AD |

1) There are thousands upon thousands of belts and i doubt that these sort of rats would spawn in every one.
2) The rats dont agro emediately, you have enough time to warp your BS out anyway without being agroed.
-
Seeing a dread in a belt would be unrealistic? So is finding 3 BS and 3 frigates for no aparent reason.
-
There was a capital in Arch space, as there was a Nyx in Serp space early 07, however unfortunately they are RP events.
-
Casually ratting and you see this spawn you may just call in a friend of two and kill it.
-
Would add more of a gang environment needed in ratting apart from a loan, boring grind. How many times have you wished you wanted someone to grind some isk with but its simply not been worth it due to the bounties?
-
I dont believe having them common would be ideal for the current 0.0 state because as someone said before, alot of people casual rat. However, if you made them rare spawns it'd be quite a good addition to the game. -

I completely agree. Capital spawns would be very nice indeed. Just slightly rarer than factional spawns. And I agree it could make it slightly harder for macro ratters / farmers. Not to mention they would require a bit of teamwork to take, and I fully endorse anything that rewuires teamwork and makes money in 0.0

I support this idea!
Why?
1. 0.0 is "suposed" to be dangerous the spawns are really easy to tank even the hardest 3 BS 3 BC spawns are a piece of cake. Finding a carrier or dread with escourt in a belt would make my day even if it popped me
2. As others said if we have low sec missions with cap ships why cant they be in 0.0 belts and 0.0 plexes.
Ps: make em mean mofos with scrambling bs, fighters that follow you (and return when they get to low on hp)

This is fine. Means I can use a moros to tank a belt and it not be considered mis-use.
I kid.
I do think it should be done. Hauler spawns are about the only belt-ratter action that is not usually handled solo.

Would it possible to please gain a CCP employee's point of view on this idea. Whilst i realise they are probobly under strict policy on giving input on ideas that are not on the cards to be implemented i believe it would be good too see thier point of view.
Also whilst i realise faction capital modules would require implementation + more work it might be worth just a high bounty capital that drops global modules (invulnerability fields etc.).
Also on the point of view of actually bringing in revenue the idea of having capital sized rats may entice new players by hearing the actual marvel of such things. -

I actually recall one or two events back in the days when a dread got spotted in a belt and taken down.
Not to derail this topic or anything but: What happened to all those cool events? Is there even an Aurora left? If a CCP employee could post something regarding the current state of Aurora, maybe more people would apply and we could have cool events again.

Now then for the anoying questions.
What would a Dark Blood Carrier be doing in a belt? Why would you not be scanning for them and finding them there, sounds much more realistic to on the scanner find a large war party then seeing them popup in a belt like a common hauler spawn.
Then the next question is how rare should they be, the amount of effort that goes in making a carrier let alone a mothership or a titan is quite big, therefore I would say they have the be to officer spawns what an officer spawn is to a normal belt rat. This would mean that a big alliance will find one maybe two of them a month. The reason for this is that otherwise the once with the power to take these massive things down will only get more and more powerful making for a very unfair playing field.
Can you imagine if the 3 major blocks have these things poping up a couple of times a week, within a few days the 3 big blocks will be concentrating on filling their already very deep pockets even further and they will forget about the wars that now validate their existance.
I like the idea of having a chalanging NPC foe, but I think that having to many of them will lead to a inbalance in hte game.

Thanks ISD. :-)
Regarding the possible balance issues so that the spawns would not be abused by large alliances.
Well there is effectively two fixes. A) Do as you said and have it so the spawns are a little more common than officers as to avoid the farming of these spawns/would require good loot/bounties.
B) Have the spawns more common with smaller bounties and general Dread/DB/TS loot etc, a little better than faction spawns.
The actual way this will help the gameplay overall is as stated above the teamwork factor along with the fact you might just jump into a hostile system and find a gang in a belt and/or capitals improving the chance of the odd PVP skirmish in 0.0. -

Can a hulk tank a tripple 1.8m sansha with tripple loyal bc spawn (not sure what the names are) ?
If so, I'd like to see that setup. I couldnt get mine to tank more then triple 1.2m sansha spawn.
Wait did I just say I mined? ---

Although most the 0.0 spawns are really easy to take down with a a battlecruiser, would have to say no to capital spawns. I think they should be in complexes that need to be probed for, however. Would be great to fine a NPC base with capitals, and need to bring your alliance fleet to take it down.

As you said for yourself having a battlecruiser being able to defeat 3 battleships and 3 battlecruiser is unrealist (but we are playing internet spaceships, so, whats more unrealistic?).
But, may i ask your reasoning behind the unsigned out of curiousity? -

Edited by: Koda Sharee on 27/09/2007 09:43:59 How about this...
....there you are ratting away like normal, you warp in to the next belt and see a Sansha triple 1.8million spawn and a couple of frigs as normal you target and fire soon as a missle/projetile/hybrid charge hit's one of the ships a frig activates a cyno field and BAM carrier support arrives :)
thats how the big boy alliance's do it right?

Yes I do think its a bit crazy that a Battlecruiser costing 50million can take out ships probably worth 5 times as much, but oh well all MMORPGs have stupid odds like this.
The reason I don't want capital spawns, is simply because it would look kinda odd with them sitting in random asteroid belts while it wouldn't look odd if they sat on NPC stations in probed locations.
Come to think of it though, it would be interesting if NPC pirates with capitals camped Jumpgates which players would need to have access to. To free up the gate, the corp/alliance would have to clean them up. Nice bounties and a little more interesting than just asteroid belts. Would probably only hear of it in JU-OWQ when a hauler went through the gate and got ganked by NPCs, screaming in local chat. :)
