WTB Your probes
It's never been so easy for me. I've had to wait in excess of 20 minutes sometimes before FINALLY getting a scan result - by which time they've finished the mission. Probing has never been anything but awkward and tiresome and it's SO easy for the mission-runner to notice if they have more than one brain cell.
I've been running missions in low-sec for 2 months now. It's boring, but I desperately need the ISK. In that time only 2 people have tried to probe me out, and both of them failed.
really, the only way to die to probers in a mission is if you're careless. Scan a bit when someone you don't know is in local (have local open too) and you'll be safe. If a Cov-ops suddenly pops up on scanner , chances are you're being probed

Honestly, I'm getting pretty tired of people coming on the forums and whining about having to face up to the fact that this is a PVP game. But I'll humour you with some answers anyway.
This is what you said and you made it sound quite well that this game was PvP only.
EVE is a PVP game. That doesn't mean it doesn't have a niche for PVEers, but to deny that this game since conception was made for the PVP crowd is just silly. In fact, PVE additions that have been made over the past year or two are mostly just to appease a broader MMO audience- basically CCP just wanted a few more customers, so they added some carebear content. The real flesh and bone of this game is still PVP. You would understand if you had experienced it yet, and I hope you do, because otherwise you're missing out on a lot of cool ****.
Sure, you may not be able to dominate missions yet, but rest assured, within 6-8 months you will. And you'll never be challenged by them ever again. I haven't run missions for well over a year, and its not for lack of isk, its more or less the monotonous ease with which I can complete them. There is quite literally 0 chance for me to die to npc missions these days, even while drunk and stoned, so they don't appeal in the least..

I see..
But what about L5's and the new upcoming L6's and L7's? They so sound something for you to try out, perhaps you have some form of challenge.
Problem is that if im a new player and I encounter for example an Inty or an AC, im good as dead, even in a BC and as I heard in a diffrent thread, bigger targets are larger magnets, but smaller ships are quite weak unless you know the mechanics as an expert.
Perhaps when I can do L4's and earn alot of ISK, I can start to buy a bunch of Cruisers for PvP, but as my wallets allows it, frigates are my go. Good thing I decided to pick up a BPO of Tristan and an Ishkur. I mine part-time as I make my own ammo from time to time.

Not gonna go to great lengths with endless debate on the reality of good probing, but just because it doesnt work for you, doesnt mean its difficult for everyone. You can be probed in 30-40 seconds. ----- Recruitment

Says it all really .
Although contrary to popular belief unless you are hunting in just one system and have a spiders web of bookmarks the hunt gets fun when encountering mission-types on a pipe run.
It's fun and profitable....extra sauce fun when you know its an 0.0 alliance alt....or main .

Please show me where I stated that EVE was PVP-only.
This IS a PvP-only game. PvE in Eve is an afterthought. Missions are the "hamster wheel in a cage" for the Carebears so that they can further fuel their carebear stare for the possibility of PvP. Ratting, ISK and LP are to get modules to PvP. That is the only reason.
The insanity of doing a mission to get better loot so you can do the same mission is akin to the same insanity of 'raiding' in other MMO's to get more loot so that you can continue to do the same raid.
Raid Completed Successfully Loot Received Raid Repeated Successfully just a lil' easier. Loot Received Raid repeated again..........
If you ever completed it once, then it was already obvious you really didn't need the new loot. So what is it's purpose? In most games it's not so obvious, like in WoW.
In Eve it is: It's PvP. Mission runners, are PvPing, they just don't know it yet until a pirate shows up to remind them. That's the answer OP. Pirates grab mission runners because they are the proverbial fat cow who grazes in the fields, getting fatter and richer and slower. They pounce and take the spoils for their own.
Pirates are hunters, a bit more attuned and prepared for this game, and they will take those modules and put it to good use for the ever evolving challenge that is player vs player combat.
After you die, you can refit and run right back to your hamster wheel, or you can choose to break out of the cage. That's Eve Online. ----------------------

Firstly, it's all about the kill. Explosions and pretty lights ftw. 2nd, lack of good low-sec belt hunting these days. 3rd, enforcing the policy that nowhere in eve is safe. 4th, Phat loot

The reason... well, let me show you my mission setup (rarely taken out of highsec, mind you)
3x 250mm Prototype Gauss Guns or 720mm 'Scout' Arties (2.5-5M each) Salvager (trash) Tractor (1.2M) Drone Link Augumentor (more trash) Y-s8 Hydrocarbon AB (probably 1-2M) Fleeting webby (5M) 3x Cap Recharger IIs (2.5M each) MAR II (3M) DCU II (3M) 4x N-type hards (500k each) CCC (20M) 5x T2 medium drones (up to 1M each) 5x T2 lights (probably up to 500k each)
Comes to about 80-100M total, and it's not even an L4-runner. It's a partially rigged L3 runner. Very good ISK for somebody with a few probes and any half-decent PvP setup.
And as for the above person complaining about how long probing takes-with high skills it can be shortened quite severely, especially if the mission runner's using drones. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |
