OK, when you come into a system, and there are pirates there, do not wait until you are at the gate getting attacked, and then say "I have alot of cargo, and I'll pay if you let me pass"

We're supposed to take advice from someone that has named themselves after a venereal disease?
Not to mention one has no prior knowledge if pirates are in a system until they have jumped there. Let alone who particularly to send a comm to.

If your traveling through a system that can be camped, you should not have autopilot going.
If you take your precautions, you can check your autopilot path to see if there have been ship kills/pod kills in the recent hour.
Personally, if I'm camping in a .4-.1 I don't pod much, unless its someone's corpse that I've got to have, because doing so will alert the map - which will inturn, with those who have the option enabled, to avoid pod kill zones.
If you jump into a system, and its local has 4-8 people, warp to a moon or something, and run through show info on all the particular people. If you notice they are pirates, ask in local if they are camping, and how much to get by.
Now, will the pirate(s) hold to their word and let you pass even after you pay? Who knows. Space Invaders are known for holding their word, but why believe me, I'm SPVD.
There are tons of precautions that can be taken, and if taken, you cannot be ganked. You can never be too careful.

All pirates want are someone to say they kick ass, and if you say you'll pay in local before you even warp the gate that pirate will probably have an orgasm that someone fears him so much, and then he'll have another one when you pay and he's not even at the gate.
Pirates don't want money they want someone to bring them off nasty, and this scenario just happens to do so. So my advice is just get blown up cause you giving them items is better then you getting them off.
One thing you can do is bring a secure container and if there are pirates in the system just go anchor the thing somewhere and come back later when the pirates are not there. Or just die and get looted, it's better than paying them.

Ganja,
Good advice, but what happens when the person jumping in comes from the other direction?
Basically you have 1 minute to arrange a deal before you uncloak and become fish food.

Dont know if u guys knew, but if u do get ganked at a gate cuz u dont wanner pay a pie RAT, then there is a way u can stop them getting ur stuff, its called (DUM DUM DUM) the SELF DESTRUCT button, and when u use it, ALL ur stuff gets distroyed. Just so u all know cuz i dont like pie RATS either. --------------------------------------- (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. What ? Seriously ? SPVD ?? Proof please. Cos otherwise I'm gonna assume that you didn't pay, or paid less than they asked....
My experiences with SPVD say that they honor their word once they've given it. (They have tried to scam me, but when that failed they didn't interfere with me leaving after saying they wouldn't)

Then again the guy can be an absolute retard at pvp. For instance the biggest weakness for the apoc is that they need the targetting feature take it down they can't hit ya. But then again this won't work for a raven who can just equip FOF missiles. Also you can always use 4 mwd and haul ass to the gate.

Gate/Station sentries only have a range of 55k. You sit at 56k, you can fire all day without NPC repurcussion.

There's been proof before that Space Invaders went back on their word 'cause they thought they should be getting more than they initially negotiated for and ended up shooting the guy and taking the loot anyways. All 'cause of them not being able to stick to an agreement, it really should be common knowledge by now.

I find most pirates either poorly organized or have very bad impulse control.
To boot, their prices are usually ludicrous.
I wouldn't mind paying a pirate if they actually made it worth my while, but has it stands it's usually more profitable for me to try and run the gate.

Nope, sorry, P*ssycat made me a promise that she never made good on when she was in Space Invaders. If you are trying to build credibility and a reputation for keeping your word, she tarnished it for you. Cheers.

Don't offer milk and cookies as payment. The pirates will only laugh at you because they brought their own dam milk and cookies.

I've gotten out with only paying 500k before and that was one of M0o's people. Pirates can be fun if it's role played that way.
