Hello, i am new to university and during the last days i have been trying to connect to the EVE server from the wireless server on the university. but it doesnt connect. it says it cant find the server.
since i can surf the internet, use MSN Messenger or watch videos on Youtube, i guess it is somekind of firewall or blocked ports that refrain me from connecting to the EVE server.
so, i need the help of the EVE community. is there any legal way to avoid whatever they are doing and be able to connect to tranquility?
what are the first steps i should do?

First off, I assume you're living in halls of residence. Talk to the IT guys responsible for the internet there. Ask if they're blocking EVE. If so, ask if you can get it unblocked. ----------------------------------------------

Ive got the same problem on the main Uni campus (although personally im more peeved that i cant log into steam and DL TF2 at insanely high speeds ).
Luckily i dont live on campus, so the landlord provides a decent 10meg Cable connection (between 5 of us in the house) so its not too bad .
Best thing to do is to talk with the IT admins, also check if other games (WOW ect.) are blocked and if not im sure EVE would be unblocked for your use.
The only other alternative is to setup a VPN somewhere and jump the signal through that.

the problem is on the main campus, and since there the net is supposed to be used for studying and not for working, i supposed that if i tell them about EVE they'll tell me to get lost.
but, i spoke to one of the technicians and he told me that playing wasnt forbidden, it just was not encouraged. i mean, if i found a way to play, they wont ban me or give me any warning.
my problem is that i am really a noob on servers, routers, ips, ports, gateways and all that stuff.
so, my actual need is how to diagnose what is the problem i am facing. how can i be sure if the problem is a firewall, or a blocked port, or some sort of esoteric spell over EVE?

First of all, check what your Uni's IT policy is, you probably had to sign a form saying you agree to it, so you might wnat to go back and read it!
If the form checks out and there's no mention of online gaming, then by all means go ahead and press the matter, as there will be no other way for you to play eve (unless you get your own net connection in your room).
Your IT guys will need to unlock the port that eve plays on (53 I believe, not totally sure, various posts about it). --------------------------------

Uni firewalls are known to block most of the ports used for accessing online games, so i'm pretty sure that's where your problem comes from.
Assuming that the IT admins won't unlock the ports for you, and since you say you don't know much about routers/ports/etc, which would make configuring a VPN very dificult, there's an easy solution if you're willing to spend a few extra Ç a month. HTTP Tunneling.

I know your pain.... Couldn't run Eve on my uni network either, after trying tunneling and various other things I had to give it up for just over a year. Sucks, really. Guess it helped me work though....

f*ck, i wish i knew what you are talking about. i am gonna search for it though to see if i can understand how to make it work, but i would appreciate if you merely told me if the process involved to play EVE through that Freedom is overly complex or any windows user can do it
oh, and thank you to all those that confirmed the 26000 port
