How is having a spy in your ingame corp metagaming?
Infiltration and spying is within and always has been within the defined ruleset of eve, hence it's not metagaming.
Metagaming is simply acting on any information which your character would not have access to. Having an alt character as a spy *is* metagaming, because you as a player are not seperating the knowledge pool of the two characters. Acting on information from another player's character, who gained that information through normal gameplay (including being a plant), which is then passed to your character is *not* metagaming. It has nothing to do with in or out of game, or about player interaction; it is all about the seperation of player knowledge and character knowledge.

Originally by: TDRC Holding I think CCP should try to curb this as much as possible. I think that most of this nonsense could be stopped if CCP would implement in-game tools for spying, and in exchange for these also include some tools that would monitor multiple accounts or connections from the same ip address. Something to the effect that if one of your corpmates logs on a character on a different account that is red to you you will have some way of knowing about it.
Imagine for a moment that your spy and the enemy corp are using MSN to communicate. Your proposals, even if they were applied by CCP, still wouldn't give you a clue about who he is.
You have to work to identify the spy. Tell blue to one of your members and red to another, and bait him with false infos. Keep tabs on the enemy corp, and try ot put a spy on their own organisation. With a bit of luck, your spy might even learn who the opposing spy is. Look at who gets killed in your corpmates, and more importantly, who never is. Look at logon-logoff times for both your members and the enemies.
Sure, it's a lot of work, but it's the name of the game. ------------------------------------------

Wrong.
If eve was "real" metagaming would merely represent one member of a corp passing information to another via secure means, some of which may not be represented in the game world. Once you know you have a spy your 70% of the way there to catching them (with a little work ofcourse). The first job of a spy is to avoid detection, once they have failed at that you are practically caught.
All your realworld "spy" tools are bad and breaches of CCPs side of the eula that include customer privacy. Oh and most ppl in the UK have a dynamic IP, all I need to do is turn off my router for 30mins and I get a whole new IP.

This is a joke / troll right? Am i the only person failing to see any metagaming going on? I knwo using your brain is generally frowned upon before posting, but seriously dude. Think.
Everything that you are talking about, is fairly easy to do via in game tools, a bit of intelligence, and soem forward planning, dedicated pilots, and fast ships. it's called 'Locking down the enemy'
The dudes that WAR'd you will have watched your home system / stations for a bit, built up lists of your players, then run locater agents on them, have a few pilots in interceptors patroling systems where you are know to hang out / have moved too. Now, once you have this rough area under surveilance, it is remarkably easy to get a couple of ships to 'interdict' you a few hops from a temporary base of operations, locate the station you are in, and camp / kill you.
As for your hauler op, you say you decided to go around. well, here's a few questions:
1. is this route around exclusive to you 2. were there any hostiles in local? 3. were any of them in cover-ops ships following your fleet? 4. are you using super sekrit maps with super sekrit jump gates on them ;)
Now answer how they managed to intercept you..... Once you see soemone heading in a particular direction, it only takes a bit of guesswork / luck / imagination to figure their intended direction.
Quote: I want to play the game for what it is, i dont mind the wardec, its the fact that someone will use metagaming tactics such as putting one of thier chars in our corp in order to kill a few carebears.
I fear you have resorted to the old tactic of "whining on teh forums before considering facts. You got owned by some dudes who are practivces and experienced in locking down / serving people.

Am I the only one that thinks this is ironic? (ok, I might not be, I will concede my bleary eyed scan read of the other posts may have missed something.)
Never tell your corp mates the sekrit escape plan until all your ships are out of there. Remember, there is no I in Team but there is one in Win, Profit and Survive.
Edit, yes I did miss it. I may be a bad forum ***** but at least I ain't alone

Your post is a perfect example of the useless whiners on these forums, who come to complain about every loss, looking for some reason why it "wasn't their fault" they died, and some game mechanic was to fault. You obviously do not understand what EVE is all about.
Don't even bring this crap onto the forums, quit whining, you died because you were outclassed. How can you even be sure you had a spy in your corp? They could have had a scout in the system you went to, they could have guessed your move, etc etc etc.
Theres absolutely no way CCP is ever going to start letting anyone and their cousin "monitor user accounts" in order to stop spying, because CCP ENCOURAGES the playerbase to spy on other corps. This is an intended game mechanic, its been stated many times that it is.

Lots of good ideas. A re-hash:
1. Don't jump haulers into a hostile system. Go wiki "interior lines" to understand why going a long way around to a backdoor wont work.
2. Lock voice comm channel to gang members only. Not a guaranteed safe, but better.
3. Use OOC alts for any task that you don't need to do as a corp member. This mostly means hauling etc.
4. Logoffski if local spikes.
5. If you can't defend yourself, hire mercs.
Overall I think a lot of empire wars are just plain lame.

I tend to agree, but what if someone says that both chars are seperate individuals working as a team ? The line is rather blurry. Then it would depend on if the relationship and the actions of the chars are plausible or not in a roleplay sense.

As long as having alt characters is allowed, spying with alts is not meta-gaming.
