Hello there! I reactivated my EVE account two days ago, and started from scratch with my miner: Even if I have solid mining skills and a Covetor, I devided to start the development of my combat skills and do some missions... So far I do level 1 missions in 0.8 and 0.9... each mission make me 300,000 - 500,000 ISK. Which is lower than what I could earn by mining, even basic ore in the same sector with my covetor
Simple question: should I continue missioning, and hope for the mission reward to get better or should I swap to mining while developping my combat skills to get the money I need (I aim for a Myrmidon, approx 35,000,000 ISK needed).
Thanks for advices :)

Edited by: Fantasia Freelance on 05/10/2007 08:09:35 Without question mining will always be far, far more profitable than missions if you're willing to go to 0.0 in a Hulk with a 700M-ISK setup--but mining is so soul-crushingly boring. The question is "how much boredom can you endure?".
If you're going to stay in hi sec then missions will probably be more profitable when you get to L3, L4 missions.
Hope this helps.
See my in-game Contracts starting at 1 million like a full set of +3 Basic implants!

If you base yourself just on level 1 missions then yes, even high sec mining is better (although i'd advise to still mission just to open up some good roid fields. Unauthorized military pressence has lots of Plagio and Pyro, while A case of kidnapping has some ginormous Omber roids). Once you hit level 3 the shoe is on the other foot, and level 4 is vastly more profitable.
Make sure you don't just base your judgement on the reward and bounties, factor in the resale value of the loot and especially the salvage.

With the connections skill you should be able to get to level2s pretty quickly and they are doable in a cruiser with only moderate skills.
Find a level 2 agent you can work for in a 0.6 or 0.5 system, preferably one with no lowsec adjacent. Most missions should be in the highsec system or only 1 system away.
Level2 missions - if run from a 0.6 and if you loot and salvage should be similiar in reward to high sec mining. In additon you gain standings which are useful when you go back to mining.
As a previous poster said, mission mining can alos pay well sometimes.

In 0.0 just kill the rats its much faster ! in 1.0 to 0.8 do just missions. in 0.7 to 0.5 do cosmos and complex. 0.4 to 0.1 gate camp lol

If you have left EVE for some time, better for you to look mineral prices before leaving for low sec/0.0 to mine, you could have some surprise.
