The old wireframe space-shoot-em-up Elite game back in the late 80's was my all time favorite.

EvE is a world where the concept of things is much more entertaining then actual average gameplay.
A great platform game like Castlevania on the PlayStation have great gameplay, but less dept. -------------------------------- This has surpassed the Yarrdware specification and has been dubbed Uberware - Oveur

Fun? Hmmm... the grind, the time sinks, the carrots on a stick that get nerfed once you reach them, the babysitting of skill training, the lag that negates your skills when trying to implement them, the frustrating lack of developer written game documentation, the repetative predictability of the npc environment and ofc, staring at rocks. For the most part, the game "as advertised" isn't fun. But, I'm pretty sure it's fun for those who take your payment each month.
I like to play like CCP does. Manipulate and social engineer the masses to my hearts content. Manufacture worthless goals and dreams into unsuspecting heads then watch them lose their minds over some 2 dimensional cartoon icons. It's the little things in life that are fun... like killing 2 birds with one stone. For example; swindling one losers isk and giving it to another loser who thinks he can buy "fun" by selling GTC's purchased with cold hard cash. Ahh, good times.
It's a wild free ride while you laugh with your freinds, c'mon, join the fun! Haha! |

Edited by: Snake Jankins on 10/10/2007 00:44:48 Most fun multiplayer game was Neocron-1 for me: Action, pvp, player driven story and last but not least my clan mates. Ok, story wasn't player driven per default, but we drove it without asking.
I like games, where you can just login without a plan and suddenly something happens and you get involved. In Neocron we were usually just hanging around somewhere after logging in. A bit duelling. Then suddenly, someone had an idea where to go or an outpost was attacked or somewhere else was some action that we needed to check out. And suddenly we were fighting somewhere, someone, somehow. Each day was different, you didn't know what was going to happen, but often it was something cool that gave you a kick and several stories you remember even after years.
Eve is lot that way, too. I enjoy to get surprised by what will happen. It's like a book that write itself and is never ending. Maybe that's why I can't stop with EVE. It's just to interesting to see, how things goes on. Big strength of player-driven games with ingame politics and such.
About singleplayer games: I like games that have an exiting story, but usually I'm done with them in a few days. They are a bit like a cinema visit: Fun, but usually too short. Something like DeusEx-1, System-Shock 2, Unreal-1, Thief1-3, Gothic 1/2, Max Payne1/2, Far Cry ... are all games with athmosphere that kept me playing, until the end. With some interruptions to sleep and eat. lol. Can't name a favourite, all were impressing. Have also been enjoying games like Starcraft, Diablo 2, Homeworld-1 or Myst/Riven or Elite on C64 and Amiga or Doom/Heretic/Quake2+3 ... ___________ I've never been so serious as I am now. No, really. |

Eve may not be the funnest game under the sun, but its one of the few games that stays fun, It has its ups in downs, and somedays you just end up sitting in a station wondering why the hell are you playing, then something happens and you remember why you play. Sometimes you just gotta grab a Rifter hit low-sec(or high sec ore can-flipping)pick a few fights, get blown up and say, "dang that was fun as hell."
I've played a fair amount of games in my time and EvE is one of the few thats held my attention for longer then a year. --
