WhatÆs the issue with bringing old threads back up? I noticed one in the missions area that has been locked because its been 'necrod' but the reason it was brought back up is because the issue still exists.
So the guy has to create a new thread, pointing out the same issue? What's the point in searching for your issue before you post? If its not on the first few pages on the forum you won't be able to post to it without getting the subject locked.
Plus, people who post without searching the forums first get flamed 'OMG!! This has already been discussed. use the search box you N00b!!!' etc etc.
Of course IÆm sure there are already threads on this but IÆm too scared to look for them in case I get perma-banned or something
IÆm just wondering what all the fuss is about?

EVE is a game that is more subject to change than most other MMOs. Reviving old Threads tends to present information that is grossly outdated and simply no longer correct. Better to start a new thread on it which can be populated with information that is correct for the current build.

Necros are fun, like getting rickrolled, but takes longer to figure out, usually.

Shanur says it quite well.
Most necro threads I've seen have people commenting (often in a rather rude and demeaning way) 3 year old posts as if they were made today. That creates a lot of unnecessary noise in a thread. So a new one is often better. There is still the problem of deciding when a thread is a necro. Over a year is pretty clear, but is 3 months considered a necro? I would say it depends on the topic really.

I see your sig is slowly being rebuilt to its former glory. Good luck with that.

I'd judge it myself by whether the reply could be counted as bumping. If it was a meaningful contribution it should be OK. If it's just a meaningless bump, it's a necro.
And yes. People don't always watch the post dates. One of the reasons necros are so disliked. It takes close inspection to see that the thread is outdated.

As the game changes and things evolve, sometimes I prefer to see that evolution reflected in a single thread. It can be disconcerting to search for a topic and find a thread discussing the issue, only to have to learn in-game it is too old. Much better to find that out in the thread itself.

i wonder how big this forum DB really is.. all these threads dont get deleted.... this might free up some resources for other things (whatever uses the same processes at the forum) by just deleting old topics..

I agree with the OP to an extent. I can't see why a sensible necro is necessarily a bad thing, it's just when people accidentally pull one out of the past.
I do in fact believe that there is an Oveur three line whip to only use a particular thread for complaints about macro mining, so that one for starters has to be continually necro'd or you're breaking Oveur's Law!

If the forums were slowing the interactive play of Eve Online down in any way, shape or form, I reckon that would have been one of the first things they sorted out.
