I'am looking forward for the enhanced *nix support so that I may shelf my MS dependence totaly. A change like this would actually have me consider writting a post where the first one asking 'can I have your stuff?' would receive it ^_^ /* Whats a guy got to do to get a smile off around here */ |

I hope not, I don't plan to update to Vista anytime soon, like some of the latest games that they made DX-10/Vista-only to get people to upgrade their systems. Guess the old client would be stopped. Besides that they wouldn't understand the eve community anyway. I'd need a new mmorpg, because they'd probably screw up pvp, piracy, the whole harshness of eve and that way everything this eve-society is build on.

Look what MS games did to freelancer, The game was designed to be a lot more than it was then MS games bought Digital anvil and then butchered the game into a third of what it should have been and half the development team "left" Digital anvil. /sig --->Enter at your own risk<--- |

Fortunately for anyone that MS buys, they get to keep their staff if they are good at it. AFAIK Jason Jones has been head of Bungie forever, and they will become an independent again very soon, but on a contract basis with MS.
Think about it rationally- EA pumps out crappy games from crappy dev teams that never update because they are busy working on the next money maker. Ms actually keeps devs working on the same project well after a successful launch.
MS may be evil, but they suck a whole lot less than EA.

Has anyone else heard this? Before I get flamed to hell about this, this is WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD from a reliable source and no I don't have proof atm.

This would be the end of eve as we know it. When in this life time has MS ever made an mmorpg? I mean I now they are a software giant but look what they turned XP into (talking about vistacrap). When they could of just improved over XP itself.

I've had dinner with Steve Ballmer. Nice guy. No screaming. He didn't even throw a chair at me.
If CCP's owners could make a killing selling out to MS or anyone else while screwing over the players in the process...you gotta admit it would be in keeping with the spirit of this game. Pwned!

This could just be a tester to see how the playerbase would react if Micro$crap took over.
Personally I'd linger around until the pink spacebunnies got introduced by the "creative" devs of MS. Which they probably would in their drive to make this a more streamlined game and thus attempt to get more subscribers.

Originally by: Soy Black Meh - if MS bought it - I wouldn't be as worried about it as someone like SOE taking it.
SOE would ruin it 100%. SWG anyone? (They MAY actually save Vanguard - yet to be seen - but they are more capable than the programmers Sigil had... which is really sad for Sigil to say lol...)
I play on a mac - so you know how much I would like to se MS keep their hands off of CCP - but with what they are doing with XBOX live and their developer kits - (C# and the game studio) they seem to be more open than other game companies to what the people develop. IF - and this is 100% speculation at this point - IF MS bought CCP - they would likely keep the game as is and keep the development as it - they would likely want to buy it for the technology that has been developed by CCP...
It's no Secret they have been wanting to get into the MMO market - but with the fallout of VG and Age of Conan being the only mmo coming out that will be windblows and xbox360 - they might be considering more directions... makes sense to me.
BUT - if SOE or EA were to purchase...
/cancel all account /middle finger
Microsoft has been in the MMO department for a long long time... Asheron's Call anyone? which reminds me i need to run tapers / plats to the mage ;)
Your right... Forget about that game. :P

And make sure they pass it around to everyone in their address book and stipulate they're not to delete the email addresses from anyone in the resulting chain of replies. Then when you get it sent back to you after a couple of months forward the list of email addresses.. erm.. signatures... or something... to [email protected]
..I promise I'll donate *some* of the profits to.. erm.. my bank.. in the form of paid interests. Yeah!

Would be a funny way to avoid having to fix the MS SQL issues CCP is suffering from.
isn't it funny how some people advocate both GTC<=>ISK trades and EVE being superior due to its cruelty and costly losses, when they use the former to circumvent the latter?

Well, the only think i like about MS would be thier funds for a much better server and some costumised software. But do not worry, if anything bad happens, MS will learn about internets warfare from the majority of goons that will make MS's sites thier target

I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to the business world and its workings, but let me get this straight:
If a rich company such as Microsoft wants to buy another company such as CCP, is there no defence for the buyee? If MS attempted to buy-out/take over a smaller company, couldn't said company just say "Screw off, we want our independance"? Or is the lesser company forced to concede to the hostile takeover?
A little drunken rant: Wouldn't the banning of non-consentual mergers eliminate that whole nasty side-effect of capitalism known as monopolies? I'm obviously missing something important here, because in the US, Americans seem to have to put up with Comcast's shenanigans despite their desires.

It would depend on if the company was publicly traded or not, as far as I'm aware CCP is a privately held company under the laws of Iceland, which would mean any sale to another entity would be entirely at the CCP leadership's discretion.
If the company in question is publicly traded and the buyer can acquire enough of the outstanding stock then yes, the "ownership" (such things don't mean the same thing as owning a car or a computer) changes. That's not at issue here, though.
In the end, Microsoft doesn't do hostile takeovers; they don't need to.
