CCP won't ever ban demo accounts from certain channels because that would mean they are even trying to do something to the problem...

Another solution would be to apply a server side chat filter that automatically blocks messages that include these well known URLs. If they go to the trouble of creating new redirecting URLs the channel mods can add them to the master blocked list. Although, if they receive no error when chatting a URL in the channel, and they see themselves posting it, it might take them a while to realize they're blocked. :)
My Final Solution(tm) would be to simply block any Asian IP address and give them their own Asia server to run on. Might not be foolproof b/c IP spoofing is relatively easy to do though, from what I've been told.

They already have their own server. Banning IP addressese and ranges wont work as they are using proxies etc. To ccp, the connections will look like they are coming from France, Germany, etc etc.
Its impossible to block them from playing the trial, what they can do in-game should be limited.

This topic is worthy of a second bump from me. The Bane of my life (my younger more stupid years) in WoW. They aren't gonna be able to continue if CCP did one of many suggestions in here. The text filter is especially simple.

The situation as way out of hand and nothing has ever been done about it with any success. The solutions presented here all seem pretty viable, but why not other options as well?
1. Block and Ignore lists that are greater than just 80 entries. Srsly guys i had 80 people blocked 2 days after they implemented that...
2. My opinion is that you need to go one step further and remove "local" for them as well. Simple coding would enable the trial account to SEE local convos, but unable to add to them. Too bad. If you want to use that function of the game, pay for it, it's simple as that. A DEMO IS A DEMO, you don't get the full game in any of them afaik. Anyone who has spent a lot of time in high commerce areas can appreciate this. I see them in Ammar and Rens now ffs. That's just wacked.
3. Directly linking credit card numbers to accounts is ok / reviewing credit card information after purchase is not entirely legal in a lot of countries. Better look into that before you start throwing that around as a solution, peeps.
Gigi, nice post. Please for the love of all that's holy stop bumping it yourself tho, it doesn't look good.
That's all I got kthxbai.

Having found that the starter corp chat gets ram-raided by the spammers regularly, it's nice to see that CCP are doing something about it.

As long as the ultimate solution to a spammer is to ban the account, the only way to make it work is to make sure that you can prevent the spammer from making account after account after account.
I see only one way. Demand positive identification of some sort -- and work out how to do this despite one-off credit card numbers and one-off email addresses. Then when you ban someone, you can make a note of it ...
And if you can't do it by identification, then away with these accounts freely available to unidentified idiots. There has to be a *COST* associated with the "punishment" for being caught spamvertising ISK sales, selling ISK, or buying ISK.
Unfortunately, this throws the baby out with the bathwater.
They probably get quite a few real customers who start out as trial accounts, end up enjoying the game (and being able to actually communicate is part of that), and actually *pay* for an account. sigh.
The smart fellow who actually solves the whole problem will probably get very rich. Too bad it won't be me ;)

For those who suggest tying to credit cards: paypal and even real banks offer one-use online-only cardnumbers, so it's not really a solution.
A good solution would be blocking them from EVEmail without them realizing that they are blocked. That is, they can see what others write, what they write, but paying (this part is essential) customers don't. That way the only way they can ascertain that they are blocked if they send a mail to one of their farmers. Enough hits on a character and you got yourself a possible one. Check on it, check transaction logs, maxbe he was just on a spam-list and is a regular guy, maybe he is a farmer.
Hell, I'm tired of the mail- and chat-spam they generate.

Could maybe just remove the open trials, and if people want a trial a already registered subscriber can send trial invites. And I guess everyone knows what then happens to people who send trial invites to spammers
Edit: This doesn't solve the whole problem...no cash for me I guess. There could maybe be some kind of community forum where people that don't know anyone in EVE but want to try it can ask for invites.

Can I suggest another way to deal with the spamming websites?
They usually have a chat help system on their sites; every time it happens go spam them with a complaint. The more of their time we take up the less profitable spamming eve is for them.
There were over 200,000 registered EVE users at the last count. Imagine if every one of them compleined even once?
