because you lose a lot when you die. you lose your ship, possibly your implants, and some people didn't hit the t2 jackpot. I tried a lot of ways to earn money but its not easy. so when I lose 300m isk in a mission because the server decided to take a break, its too much for me. I like the game, but the lag is unbearable.
also, I've played a lot of mmo's, and this is the only one that continuously has lag and gets away with it. Its a great sandbox game and all, i agree with that, but the lag... and if you think lag only exists in fleet battles, well you're wrong.

in all seriousness, we've been promised that lag will die for how many years now?

Since the days of ARPAnet. Unbeknowest to you, but knowest to us, there is a big switch that says LAG: On/Off that they just don't want you to become aware of. Because then this global conspiracy will be unraveled and the US Gov't will no longer be able to gank you by turning the switch on, and then blowing up your ****.

I've been running missions on and off for months and months and have never once come in contact with lag. Do you know what I think? I think you're in Motsu or somewhere similar.
Seriously, what do you expect if you jam yourself into a ridiculously crowded system? There is little CCP can do about lag in such areas until they spend lots and lots and lots and lots of time working really hard to rewrite their server code to allow dynamic adding of nodes to a system as it's load increases. That's in the works I hear, but it's a little way off yet.
If you are in a quiet system, then it's more understandable when you cry about it. But in that case it's not likely to be the server, because if it was there would be lots of people crying about it. In that case it's likely something on your end, such as your ISP or your computer.

It sucks but it's not like tomorrow they will magically fix it. Until then you the player should think about consequences of playing in a laggy system and either take the risk and don't complain about it or move out to a less laggy place. You also have the option to fit your mission ship to have a permanent tank on so that even in event that you get disconnected it will still be tanking the mission rats for a long time rather than dying on the spot, as many mission runners choose to setup their ships.

Edited by: Jadelith on 13/10/2007 23:02:13 or add a few more high quality agents. I don't want to grind all the way to 7.0 again with some other corp because there is only 1 high quality agent in caldari navy. and no I wasn't using the q18 lv4 agent in motsu, fyi.
bah if others aren't experiencing it, maybe it was just a one-time thing. but still, I couldn't even activate my modules before I went pop. there was nothing i could have done, and I've lost pretty much all my isk. :/
edit: oh and I do have a permatank :P I clicked on the modules, but went pop before they activated.

Awwww boohoo
I was in FAT- all last month, experiencing 600-on-grid fleet battles with 15 minutes of module lag.
I didn't die.

if you were shooting poses and pos decided to pew you and you didn't control your ship for 15mins (and couldn't activate your mods), then you would have popped. your enemies were also experiencing lag, but npcs don't. and you're probably rich, I'm not :)

Wait, you were npcing? Sorry, I didn't realise Its a bit different then.
However, I've never experienced enough lag to kill me when NPCing. Just do it in a system off-the-grid, aka not Motsu / Saila / Jita / Dodixie / Rens / Amarr / Penirgman / etc etc ---

I'd agree wholeheartedly were it not for the minor issue of all the high level Caldari combat agents being in and/or hosting encounters in the problem systems.
The whole problem could be solved by providing more high quality hi-sec agents to spread the load instead of having it focused on each empires one or two q10+ lvl4 hi-sec agents.
Seriously 1 q18 in hi-sec for any NPC corp was always going to be a bad idea, when that corp was Caldari Navy...
Anyway, the lag is unacceptable, the solution simple, we don't need more hardware we need more agents. I'd really like to see this fixed.
[EDIT: Also petitions on losses for lag is always a good idea, just ask in local if everyone else is/was suffering first to make sure it's not your connection at fault.]

afaik all your hardeners and shield booster should work in warp - how about activating the mods before you initiate warp into place with dozens of rats that may cause tremendous lag and kill your ship before you get a chance to activate your mods then

A lot of us de-cloak by changing speed, activate tank, and then warp due to some-times not being able to activate in warp due to... lag.
But that is often a hard learned lessons, and not everyone fits a perma-tank.
The lag is often not just caused by the warp in to large clusters of ebil NPC badness either, random lag-spikes, constant lag, and the appearance of new waves can trigger it too. Not to mention nothing but a perma-tank can operate reliably when module activation times are high.
Even then, when you get in over your neck it can be impossible to warp... or even know your 600m of tanking goodness is going down, until your dead.
With a Gist X XL booster it's not going to kill me, but I'd still like to see it fixed if not for those who can't slap down 1bill for a single module then to stop me having to sit watching my launchers reload for five mins at a time, or have my drones suddenly vanish (due to being dead) before taking damage, or waste valuable ammo firing a 16th salvo of CN missiles at a rat that was surely dead some time ago but the darn things won't turn off and he's still sat there, or just plain the time wasted being slowed down when I could be earning more ISKies.
