While I like autocannons fine and dandy, I have always preferred artillery for its boomage factor. My questions is, are artillery fitted minmatar ships fit for pvp?
I thought about a cyclone with a 720mm rack but wasn't sure if artillery was able to break any tanks due to it's rof. Any advice? And please don't say, "Use autocannons".

Just like most forms of longrange weapons, they arent ment to do enough dps to break tanks 1v1,but where artys differ is the"boomage factor"is what they are made for rather then dps.
To answer your question,720s can break tanks but not all...Go with acs unless your in a gang of somekind. __________________________________________ Yes it is great being amarr. I am minmatar, fly amarr, use gellente drones and am in caldari space. |

Its a fleet based PVP weapon and won't work solo for a fair number of reasons that don't need to be listed.
AC are your main weapon if you plan to use Proj weapons. !

I disagree, Artis have a lot of uses and fit on certain ships very well.
The Jag, the Rupture, the Munin, the Cyclone, the Hurricane all fit Arti and do very well in pvp with them. ACs are saved by the fantastic nature of Barrage ammo and yes they are useful - but to exclude Arti is simply idiocy.

They're used in PvP a fair deal because of their high alpha-which gives them a fair number of uses. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |

I never said they was not good pvp weapons for gang/fleet work there crap for solo work as they won't get many if any kills with out alot of luck.
I come across a solo Arty ship in pvp i would laugh at them and just MWD in close and use my AC's and Nos to kill them way befor they can do the damage needed to most likey pass my shields. !

If you're in a gang arty can work great - move back away from the action and hammer away, hoping you get an alpha strike that just ends the battle.
If you're in a smaller team or solo-ing, artilley is less valuable, because you don't have someone holding the enemies attention while you create the necessary range.

T2 Arty's work well on the Rapier, Huginn, and Munnin due to the specialized bonusses these ships get. The Rapier/Huginn both pin targets from long range with webs and ploink away. The Munnin with T2 720's and sniper configured can hit reasonably well with Tremor in excess of 100km...but I personally have had only 3 occasions to actually need to fly it.
Arty's also work on the Cyclone/Hurricane/Rupture but as with the above ships it's situational. A T2 650 rack might be the better choice due to ROF and double magazine capacity.
The artillery-fitted Minmatar inty's work well...but with the NOS balance it's tempting to switch back to AC's as BS targets cannot instakill cap anymore (exception-neuts).
It comes down to your fighting preference and type of gang you are flying with.

I always fit artillery on my claw, has problems tracking at MWD speeds, though.
Anywho, yes, except very select ships, I'd use autocannons

Apart from fleet duty, artillery fitted ships with good skills and fitted for damage can alpha smaller ships if you know exactly when to fire. Tricky but hilarious.
Advice : Unless you plan on sniping, fit them on ships that have a tracking/damage bonus and don't neglect the extra bit a few launchers can inflict. It can make the difference between the first salvo letting the target warp away in structure or the pilot saying "Phew, that was close, but Wtf are the red dots behind me? BOOM ..."
(Note : Don't solo in arty fitted ships as you're likely to die a painful death)
(Note 2 : Honestly, if you're looking for the ultimate pvp ship outside fleet duty, don't fly an arty ship as there are other "Better" fits that might outclass an arty ship in most situations. But if you like the BOOM-factor and have fun flying arty ships, enjoy yourself, that's what eve's for)
