Problem: Cluttered and messy inventory. Difficult to visualize what's in the inventory.
Solution: Thematic based inventory display. 100% customizability.
Basically it would allow us to define rectangles within the inventory, in which custom filters that we create ourselves would sort items in.
So you could have, for example, 5 rectangles in your inventory, and each rectangle can be scrolled in (if the amount of items exceed what can be displayed in the current frame), so one rectangle division would only contain ammo, since you've defined the filter list for it this way. Another division area could contain only stuff you intend to reprocess, again, based on a filter you created for this area. Should be able to create filters based on properties on items, or purely on user selected items.
The system would of course allow you to overlap, and have the same item represented in different division, if said item matches the criteria on both divisions filters.
Check this link for an idea of what I'm talking about:

Sorting:
Simply allow Folders instead of Station Containers or the sort to sort items.
Currently Ships and Items are separate Categories. Allow subcategories for our Folders so we can quickly access them.

Abdiel Kavash wrote:Issue: Inventory management at a POS is awkward. - It is impossible to open containers in a POS Corporate Hangar Array. You need to take them out in the cargo of a sufficiently large ship to open them.
- It is impossible to repackage items in a CHA.
- The CHA has no private portion, anything you want to store in a CHA is available to all members of your corporation with the same roles mask as you.
- The Ship Maintenance Array has no partitions at all, the only way to control access is by the Starbase Config Manager role. You either open the SMA to all members of your corp, or to all people with the SCM role.
Proposed solution:- Allow opening and manipulating the contents of containers in a CHA.
- Allow repackaging items in a CHA.
- Create private portions in the CHA and SMA. Every member of the corporation should have their private space. Directors (or members with a new role) can control volume quotas for members. Ideally, the quotas would be floating, so if one member isn't using the CHA, other people should be able to use more of it - up to the total capacity of the array. It is also very important to allow someone (probably directors) to take items out of other member's hangars - to prevent people going inactive making the CHA and subsequently the tower impossible to unanchor.
- Create hangar tabs and private divisions as described above in the SMA.

Additional this here:
I hope you will look further into Starbase Management and rethink about a redesign as i already mentioned and posted it in the former comment blog to this general Item here New dev blog: Starbase happy fun time.
I think this will help all the POS Managers out there and all the Users too, to get an handy manageable POS state of the art.

Issue: Organization is hard to achieve Solution: Let me create divisions in my personal hanger and allow me to put either ships or modules or whatever into any of them, then allow me to filter my "assets" window by divisions.
Issue: Selling ALL THE THINGS is really really annoying, especially when you have not done so for a long time in a mission hub. Solution: Allow me to select all, right click and choose sell, then pop up a window with item, best buy price, percent up or down from average and a check box to confirm selling that item, have a total per item type and a total for all at the bottom, allow a check box for "select all" for when we just don't care, and a confirm button at the bottom. If all that has to happen to an item is it get repackaged (like modules, ships and things that have other items in/on them need not apply) then automatically repackage it.
Issue: Creating a lot of contracts can be time consuming. Solution: some way to create bulk contracts for things, like if I have 10 BP copies to contract, if they are all the same, let me do ONE contract form, and produce 10 independent contracts.
Issue: Assets are hard to figure out what is where and how much. Solution: Allow assets in multiple stations/systems/regions to be sorted by m3 total and m3 by item. Perhaps also show the total market value of all items in that station and allow us to sort by that as well. That would help me in the "is it worth it to jump 37 times to clean out a station?" question. |

ISSUE: 'Trade with x'
When trading items to another player in a station, once you have placed items in the window, they cannot be removed, even if accept hasn't been clicked on either end. If you drag and drop a large selection of items to the window, and you added an item you shouldn't have, you either have to cancel the trade completely, or trade and then trade back the item (if they don't realize how much its worth and just take it).
FIX: Make the contents of the 'Trade with x' window modifiable until either side clicks accept. |

I have recently been on SISI doing some things where these changes have been made in the UI already.
If you're looking for feedback on that - as it stands currently please do not implement your changes with regards to inventory.
WHY?
It's very clunky and confusing and clearly not well thought out. No one considered the adage of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'.
I found moving items I just purchased into ships to be less than intuitive for example no longer being able to double click in hanger in an active ship to bring up the cargo hold of the ship. This method was quick. I found out that I had to drag things into the dumb inventory screen. I get that many people are not organized and need something like this to do it for them. That's not the case for me. This just jumbles everything up.
No item-like representation of all the ships in a current station. I like to be able to quickly glance at my ships in a window i have positioned directly above my hanger inventory window. I can see what I have what is assembled and fitted and what is disassembled and needs fittings. In the new UI inventory screen it is very difficult to ascertain what I have available and where it is without clicking on the assets screen. In a stressful situation (read: living in nullsec) I simply do not have the extra 30-45 seconds it takes to try to figure out where the hell my stuff is. I need to be able to quickly identify assets in it's own window that pertains to locally available inventory only. I do not want to hunt for it in a list of ships on the left hand side of the screen with various drop down arrows.
Speaking of that left hand side panel with the item types (ships etc) if you have multiple drop arrows of stuff - e.g. drone bay and you are trying to move things into your ship's cargo hold it is WAY too easy to drop it in your drone bay instead (which of course as you should you get an error message). This wastes my time.
This needs either a lot of work or the ability to COMPLETELY revert to the original style ala walking in stations. |

ISSUE: can't sort icons (lack of grouping) Explained: I generally prefer looking in icon mode when in station, but everything is presented to me as one big mess and I have to manually look through everything. List or detail isn't that much more helpful because I find recognizing by icon group a little quicker and the sorting options are meh.
SOLUTION: Easy Custom Groups If all I want to see is ammo, maybe I could click on the ammo group or an ammo tab and just that comes up. If I want to see only mid slot t I <3 Vexors. |

Issue: The overview can be overloaded with information and to see it all means expanding it covering the screen thus impeding piloting for those who point and click ( I am unaware of joystick capability in this game). It's unweildy and cumbersome.
Fix: Trim it down by putting all relevant information concerning a given target either by the target icon at the top of the screen itself or on the over view target box (also usually at the top of the screen above the overview listing) which shows more detailed information about the target. This way a player doesn't have to expand the overview to see the angular velocity and distance and all the other dynamic values of a given target and search for it among a list. It should be right there on the HUD. So when we target a ship we simply watch the target box or the target icon (or both) but not search the overview list or expand it over our screen to see everything. The overview listing is simply to determine what I target next or to get a sense of situational awareness but the actual values used to fire upon a selected target should be in one spot in plain view so more focus can be on flying and fighting not searching the overview listing. |

My opinion about the new "inventory" system: We live in a wormhole, so we do all of our little things on pos. Now, thats became a nightmare.
Just imagine: you're trying to put items to a corp hangar from an another hangar. Until now you have opened a hangar, selected a div, opened the other hangar selected div and drag&dropped the item. Now: You are opening a hangar, selecting a div. After that you opening the other hangar with shift+click (because without that it will use the same window), selecting a div and drag&drop items.
If you are doing this a hundred times a day, it will be annoying like hell.
Other negatives: - the index isn't customisable (lists ALL pos modules with cargo, including the pos turrets) - corporation hangars and ship bays still unrenamable, it makes the inventory system uncomfortable - you can't hide the estimated price, it's mostly useless function - the system dont make a difference between your cargohold and other bays. when you resize a window, it will resize your cargohold... - if you are change the sorting of a hangar, that will change the sorting the others. Thats make pos life difficult a lot... |

Just a thought: my new pet peeve: the new inventory manager closes every time I warp to a new system or dock or undock. Give me the option to leave it open regardless, or to have it close every time I warp, dock, or undock. I've brought back up the old style inventory windows in the meantime because I don't like having to reopen a window I'm using every 2-10 minutes. |

All I care about is fast navigation, this new fansy UI only slows things down, while leaving out pretty obvious features like making shortcuts.
Right click ship hangar on the navigation bar, add shortcut to menu bar. It's that simple.
Oh and the window that opens from clicking that should NOT show the navigation bar. It'll be just like the glory days of pre 22nd may 2012. |

Issue1: Drag and Drop an Item (Veldspar in my Case) to the Item Hanger Iteme produces an single Item. After some Splash N Dash runs i have a lot of Single Items in my Hangar.
Fix1: Automatic Staking. If a new Item is dropped into the Hangar and an Items exists with the same, they will be stacked automaticly.
Issue2: Overview Issue with all the Guns and Stuff.
Fix2: Group Items by Category. High Slot (sub Category: Lasers, Hybrid, Rockets, etc...(Sub Category: Capital, Large, Mid)), Mid Slot, Low Slot, Blueprints etc... or Guns, Drones, Armor Hardeners. In Colums so you close, for Example the Ore Category and the Guns if not needed. I could make a Mind Map if needed. |

After tons of negative feedback about the new UI while it was in testing, how should we know this feedback won't be ingored as well?
Here is my feedback:
Inventory Opens randomly when jumping, docking and undocking Inventory Opens at random location, especially when using multiple windows Inventory doesn't update properly when using multiple windows Multiple windows are lost upon jumping, docking and undocking Due to the above managing your inventory takes loads of extra time, either by having to open and position all the windows again or because finding the right container in the drop down list takes ages. POS management is Insane and impossible, The amount of guns hangars and whatnot just clogs up the bar and makes it a chore to manage
In short, the new inventory system looks nice, but It slows management to a crawl and doesn't work except for the most basic functions (and the sorting which is beautifull btw)

It would be nice if the option "open in a new window" when clicked in the UI would remain as a new window when undocking and then docking again.
This UI takes up so much real estate in my 21.5" monitor just to get some basic functionality that it's almost pointless.
Was it necessary to have the Corporation Hanger added to the UI? (If I have it the size I used to have my Corp Hanger) scrolling backwards and forwards to drop stuff in my personal hanger while holding down the Left Mouse Button is simply ridiculous. I do know there is a deliver to member context menu which is 4 clicks away when it used to be "Click-Hold-Drag-Drop" simple.
It looks fantastic...but practically it's awful. Give us the option to separate out the windows we want and customise how our Inventory is displayed. This "All-In-One Solution" hasn't delivered what it was promised to do.
I think the biggest problem I have with it is that even if I separate my Cargo Hold out from the UI and nest it in another window when I dock up it goes back into the UI. But it all nests in the last location that a "open in a new window" window was placed.
An improvement if the UI is to remain would be:
- Let Cargo Hold and Drone Bay be two separate windows that can be removed from and never return to the UI unless nested (Like the old way). This would enable them to be nested in other windows or as permanent stand alone windows
- Add an option to merge the Corporation Hanger into the Station Services bar. No more, holding and a scrolling.
All in I absolutely despise the new UI and it's lack of customisation in regards to separating the windows out permanently.

New inventory UI
First off, in WH operations, the new inventory is a nightmare, please change it back to seperate windows for hangers, cargobay, and deffiently for cargo containers for us miners/harvesters. Or better yet, make the UI custamizable where those of us who prefer the old inventory UI able to set ours up like that, and those that prefer the new UI to do so.
also everytime we warp, the inventory screen opens up, and if we are typing midjump, the text curser automatically moved to the inventory viewer filter box |

ISSUE: Unified Inventory
FIX: Remove it
It complicates the simple, disorganizes the organized, and hides what was clearly visible before. An open window shows what is in a particular storage spot or container. Not any more. No idea to tell what is where, how much space is left, or individual quantities unless all the windows are opened and dragged out, EXACTLY THE WAY IT USED TO BE. How was this thought to be an "improvement"?
Set the new unimproved inventory to OFF as default, because it is mostly useless and poorly thought out. If the inventory is deemed useful be some brave soul, make it an OPTION to have the windows either open on their own, or to stay nested. MAYBE there is some situation where it might actually be useful, but I have yet to find it. In the new unimproved inventory, it makes the window frames larger than they used to be, taking up more space, and to open multiple windows, so you can actually ORGANIZE things, it takes even more screen space than before. Fail. For mining and dealing with orcas, it is a giant step backwards in usability and organization.
Add to all the obfuscation, the problems of:
- windows positions aren't saved - windows close every time you dock/undock, or gate jump - un-nested windows aren't saved either in position or size. - windows randomly open and close when you warp
Put the inventory back the way it was, when it was ORGANIZED and NOT BROKEN. As I said, either make the "new" inventory an option, or remove it entirely. One thing that IS useful (as i assume it is tied to local market prices) is the little isk calculator, BUT, it also takes up way more screen space than before, so make that an option too.
BRUTAL. EPIC FAIL. Make the "new" inventory an OPTION like it's equally useless sibling, "the captain's quarters".
EDIT PS: Something that is acutally USEFUL, AUTOSTACK ITEMS. Like, really, WTF? Why do we still have to tell it to stack-all TWICE to get it to stack and sort, or stack, and then sort it manually?? If you undock, all items are autostacked and sorted. When you dock, same thing. When you add an item to inventory, SAME THING. At the same time, for people who need to or want to stack and divide items for trade, transfer selling, whatever, MAKE IT AN OPTION TO TURN ON/OFF THE AUTO SORT/STACK FEATURE, and put it either in general settings, or better yet, in a right click menu for each inventory window. |
