I've got a problem, I can never seem to grasp the time difference between Eve time and my local RL time. Whether it's extended downtimes, or corp/allaince OPS, I always have trouble synchronizing (lol it's the only word I could think of)...
Does anyone know of anything that could help me? perhaps some kind of timer/countdown app? Is there anything specific to Eve perhaps?
PS. yes this problem is being brought up because I'm an idiot and am losing training at this moment even though I knew days ago about this downtime... LOL (no this isn't a whine)...

Eve time = forum time (methinks..). Look at the time of the latest post and you've got your clock.

No. Eve time is GMT.
Right now some countries are on daylight savings like the UK. This is not GMT, this is +1. Common mistake really. People think when you put the clock back an hour in the winter you are going behind GMT by an hour and through the summer you are on GMT. And some people think GMT moves when we put the clocks back, which it doesn't as it is a geographical time zone and not all countries have daylight savings. ------ Shakor Clan Information Portal |

EVE time = Iceland time = GMT without daylight savings adjustments.
So if you are in a country which follows daylight savings, your difference between EVE time and local time will change every time your country applies daylight savings. So, even players in the UK won't ALWAYS have local time = game time all year long.
For instance, I'm in Romania, which is GMT+2 during winter, but GMT+3 during summer... so, winters, my local time is EVE+2, during summer, it's EVE+3. _

EVE time is GMT. Please note that GMT does not have summer time; "GMT with summer time" is British Summer Time (BST), which GMT+1.

Change your windows clock to GMT, change it back after you find out the time.
Alternatively this is GMT

Personally, I refer to it as proper time as this would be Icelands time zone as there's no point in attempting to save the perpetual daylight hours of the summer.

...Is it just me who live outside of iceland and run their computer clocks according to Eve all the time? Less confusion that way ^_^

No it isn't
UTC is a more accurate version of gmt, but nobody apart from scientists use it.
GMT is the original global standard, and flawed though it is, it will probably outlive utc version2 :)

1) Go to Google 2) Type "Time in GMT" 3) Search 4) Observe time [optionally: ???] 5) Profit.
[this would be my preferred method, if it weren't for the fact I needed to know the GMT time for work]
Also works on countries/cities. [ie. "Time In London"]

That's a bit of a simplification. As I understand it GMT is an indication of the time at Greenwich, London. UTC OTOH measures the passage of time using a unit derived from universally observable phenomena (radioactive decay or radiation wavelengths). I think this means that the time according to GMT is only valid in one place (London, UK basically) whereas UTC is potentially valid everywhere (give or take relativity).
GMT is kept synchronised with UTC so in every day usage there is no difference.
You can look them both up on Wikipedia if you want to confuse yourself even further. Suffice to say that time is not as fixed and constant as people these days would like to think. Time and timepieces have been messed about with more often than calendars..and that's saying something. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

EVE time = Iceland time = GMT without daylight savings adjustments.
The last one is an oxymoron. GMT never has daylight savings adjustments. It remains the same (give or take leap seconds) all year round. During daylight savings countries adopt a different timezone.
For the UK (where Greenwich itself can be found) the switch is made into GMT+1 (known unnofficially as BST or British Summer Time). But GMT continues to operate and some countries (Iceland is one I think) choose to stick with it all year round. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Yup. As long as there is a Greenwich there can be a GMT (because it's defined by when the sun is directly overhead). UTC OTOH is derived in terms of the number of seconds elapsed and as the Earth slows more and more adjustments (leap-seconds) have to be made. According to Wikipedia within a few hundred years it will become impractical to keep making the adjustments. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

i asked for a dual clock in game (rl and eve time on top of each other) there's more then enough room for it, and the response from ccp was ' its eve time, get used to it '.. cause its so difficult to add another clock in game i guess. but that's in game, which i think is different than what the op is requesting

I only ever run in windowed mode, so I see no need for this feature. Eve time on the bottom left, local time on the bottom right.
