Is EVE still a good game to play, I'm sure for newer players it's great, but genuinally I don't feel it is, what it once was.
So called, "EVENTS" which are hours of waiting?(I personally think it was bullcrap) Blobs and fleets in 0.0? Goonswarm?(I'm just joking:] ) Or is it the major increase in the player base? The whole T20 epic tin foil hat event(I think that was his name anyway) Am i just rambling? Who knows...
What do the older players feel about modern eve? (Obviously I don't like it - ****** events don't help). And what do the newer players think of eve in comparison with other games currently out?
Forum mods, if you feel you have to lock this thread because you love chuck norris or something can you post before you lock
Discuss, What do you think, of EVE!? (Flame free please, Genuine opinions of eve only kkthx!)

Feel free to name ONE game that's worth playing more than EVE. And tell us WHY.

None MMO games? Loads!
MMO games? Not that many have me coming back, though I like LOTRO too.
As for if its still good. Four years later and despite my prolonged absences I keep coming back, starting to run out of reasons though. Is Eve good? Yes. But after a length of time ANY game gets boring, doesn't mean the game is crap.

As for the event, this was basically a one-time thing while the main servers were down.
I think EVE is still an excellent game, dispite this extra event that went belly up. ------------

Edited by: Qual on 16/10/2007 18:07:53 4+ years of playing and I am still using way to much time on the game and loving it.
Most apsects have devoloped nicely over time. POS warfare is my main gripe at this time. I think if the actual time a tower had been anchored starting to count it would do a lot. (Like one point per day. Thus spam alone woundt be able to take one of your core systems. Attacker would actually have to kill the defending tower or wait a long time...)

So, there you have it... until anybody else can come up with an online game that is as "tough-love" as EVE yet still "laid back" at the same time if you want it to be, CCP could pretty much do anything they want and subscription numbers will keep soaring up anyway.
You pretty much answered your own question... for EVE to become much better as it is, it requires competition to drive up quality. Right now, it has none, so quality is only as good as it gets. Well, it's not BAD quality, but I agree, it COULD be better still. Nothing is ever perfect. _

I see your point and agree with you, but I arn't bored of eve itself, I'm bored of the blobs and the fleets and the lack of decent pvp, the style of pvp that use to exist i guess. Also i'm not a fan boi of the forum mods, they're to lock happy

Eve is an awesome game, (I think you are confusing 'event' with 'test' btw). e.g If you don't bother to read the forums how many of your actuall complaints would be visible?
Eve's a great game with lots of potential, it is generally well supported by its developers and where it suffers then it does so in line with other similiar titles on the MMO market.
Like many MMOs however, it has a core of detractors for whom comprimise is not an option. This highly vocal minority like to proclaim doom for the game, quite probably as its far more attention grabbing than 'thx ccp'.
So, for the most part those that decry the game are actually just seeking attention for themselves, very very few have anything more constructive to add.

The event was one aspect of it if you bother to read the post, but it's a genuine question to others about how they feel about eve, especially older players. And hey I'm always open to suggestions for another game

PVP wise, I'll freely admit that I don't do it anymore unless I am in a situation where I can't avoid it, 0.0 ratting etc as somebody jumps in and is determined to ruin your day :) The reason I don't do it anymore is mainly down to me being bored with that side of the game.
I do agree with the point "the style of pvp that use to exist". Maybe it still does but I haven't seen it for many years in the way I used to do it, In Phantom Squad with a Rifter fleet, 20 frigs buzzing round a BS or two and doing it because its how we played at that time in that corp etc, not just because it became fashionable to send out 200 frigs in yet another version of the blob.
No, Eve is not the game it used to be although in many ways it is better and has grown into a beast. Changes along the way will always ruin it for some, make other adapt and make some quit, me, I liked some changes, hated others, Wondered why some failed to be as interesting as they were when in beta and why oh why aint we got that Casino slot back CCP! (working this time though )
I kinda miss my mining mega days, you know how it is, retro brings that loving feeling back but often after a day or two of "classics" your glad to be playing the new games still. So yeah, I'll say it again, Eve is still fun in many ways and the best and worst out there at the same time. There will always be better games though, it all depends on the person playing though so its not definable in the way I think you would like

Er yes I did read your post, you mentioned the 'event' and Ive referred to that, and I think Ive responded to your other points. My emphasis being that quite a lot of the criticism directed to eve is spawned from the forums, not EVE itself (tin foil hattery etc etc).
My genuine response is that EVE is really good.

Edited by: Threv Echandari on 16/10/2007 19:17:53 How new is new? I'm almost 2 years old bu I still feel N00bish. Eve has its problems, depth isn't one of them. Lag in Fleet battles is. POS Warfare no ablilty to do tctics besides Blob is another. But IMHO most all the other problems in Eve pale to lag issue. Fix Lag and new play/combat styles will develop I think. The fact that in order to play in fleet battles I have to setup my client for the Crappiest looking graphics in a slideshow and Zoom out so that is all red and purple squares annoys me to no end. (ohy and I have a Core 2 Duo with SLI Graphis and 2Gigs of Ram on a decent DSL connection. its not my setup.)
But.... even with that Eve has me coming back. Now I am playing City of Heroes right now and aside from overly restrictive character naming policies that game is more "Fun" imho than Eve, but its not very deep and once my main reaches 50 I will most likely drop it. (like other MMO's before it.)
The only other MMO which I thought was as cool as Eve and was Brutal with PVP and Death penalties was Neocron. Probably was the coolest Sci-Fi next to Eve, even that got Dull and became a grind. (Grinding for Money is not as bad as Grinding for XP) Anarchy Online was also Fun for a few months (Shout outs to any guys from Agent Sector and Omni Ent). But The Nerf bats were hard and the Sci-Fi-ness not there. It was more like a Fantasy MMO in Sci-Fi Clothes with nano substituting for magic. But what killed it for me was Cross dressing Atrox's with "nano-enhanced" I-beams killing my Agent (with a Rifle type weapon) from across the map.
So, I come back to Eve Warts and all, it just floats my boat. Maybe if another space game comes out with the ability to do PvP, huge Fleet battles, more Realistic Space physics, Line of Site, Planetary bombardment, High powered enrgy weapons (poor Amarr), planetray exploration/exploitation Player markets and ambulation too with Cool Characters in a Gritty Sci fi World (I'm not asking too much am I?),then I may switch from Eve. Until then...Eve is the one.

Yea, it¦s still good.
I have bought & played other games and have give up on them after some playing time. I like to play BF2 to get some action and then EVE for relax mode _______________________________________________

Well, I've only been around for a month and a half. Most of this thread is in relation to those have been here for years, but you asked for a new player's perspective as well, so here goes.
Other MMOs have never interested me. Scratch that, they've interested me, but I didn't think I had what it took to play them. Why? Most MMOs I've heard about are Lvl based. Basically, a Lvl 30 toon pwns a Lvl 20 toon any time of the day. They don't cater to a casual or new player. If I started today, I'd never have a chance at those that started years ago. Eve's skill training system goes a long way. I can train even if I can't play, so if I can't put in as many hours as Joe Blow who started at the same time as me, I can still be on the same "lvl" as him.
Secondly, Eve has a real loss system. This makes things a lot more "real" than they would be in other games. Piracy arises as it otherwise would, and I have to take measures to actually protect my assets. The market system, for the most part, also reflects real economy. You can also do what you want to do in Eve, as the "sandbox" system allows. If I would have, in real life, actually become a miner or trader or something I wanted to do, I can do that in Eve and actually fulfill a role and have fun, if that's what appeals to me, as opposed to other MMOs where you are forced to go here, do this, fulfill these quests, a.k.a. kill x number of bad guys to progress.
Thirdly, it's science fiction, space based, which appeals to me a lot more than fantasy based MMOs. ------------------- 4 8 15 16 23 42 108 |

Still the best game out there, but it has lost a lot of the feel it had when it came out.
The biggest problems is capitalships/pos warfare and how large the playerbase is these days

Has its ups and downs like other games. Lag is only an issue because we try to stick too many people in a place at once. In most other mmo's, or at least the few I have experienced, this always happens. EVE's problem is just that it encourages you to keep stuffing people into that area to eradicate the enemy, and the hamsters are already working overtime. Still a good game, just sometimes everyone needs a break. Stick a really long skill on and go play an FPS or another mmo for a while.
