Is it time for CCP to setup a separate server for the Trial accounts? Should paying customers have their gaming experience damaged by an increasing number of spammers, pharmers, hackers, griefers and other idiots abusing the trail account system? Remove trail accounts from the normal game servers, give them a separate server where people can try the game without being able to abuse paying players.

Hmm... would you really want to decide to play EVE if you were only playing with day one newbies for your first two weeks? How boring would that be? You wouldn't have any clue what the real server dynamics were like.
This is not a good idea.

Um.. no.
This is a pretty drastic measure and would be 'punishing' those that are truly interested in playing the game. And I can tell you if I were to come here as a new player and play on a trial acct because a friend recommended it to me, I would not sign up after the trial.
Why?
Simple. Because I had NO interaction with the friend that introduced me to the game.
I have recommended the game to no less then 6 friends in the last 4 months and each has trialed. They ask me questions, we talk, and interact. This will make the game expierence so much better for them. But to toss them into a walled garden would seriously ruin the enjoyment.

I do understand where you're coming from, but imagine being one of those poor triallists on a server that would be about as populated as Singularity. There'd be next to no market, NO real 0.0 action and there'd be no point trying to build up any cash.
Basically, they'd be able to try out missions and (fruitless) mining for two weeks. Which they could do on TQ as well, except there'd be a point.

This character has recently been added to a eve mail spamming list, I dont even have to be online for the seller to spam me anymore. I guess trials are going to loose evemail. ___

TQ is everything in Eve. I wouldn't have been hooked to the game if not for my first trial account. Those first 14 days were just awesome.
The buddy system needs some revamping though. Trialers breaching the EULA should prevent the referring party from sending any more trial account invites. Introducing some accountability...

Edited by: Mr Friendly on 20/10/2007 03:15:50 No, I think you should think through the ramifications of your idea before posting it.
My 4th day in Eve, I went to low-sec and got killed. In my second week, I went to 0.0 and got podded.
Neither would happen under your idea, but just those two occurrences taught me 100x more about Eve than 2 weeks of 23/7 play on a 'nOOb server' ever could. This is Eve, not WoW. In Eve, there are people out there and they want to kill you, do terrible things to your corpse and steal your loot. Not necessarily in that order. No TQ access means no real experience of player-content; so, no Eve essentially.

I was pirating whilst still on my trail account. Getting a trail of EVE requires being on Tranquility. Period. You can not shard the Trail Accounts and actually give them a trail of EVE. ____

Since Trail accounts on TQ are a vital part of getting new players into the game, then CCP need to get off their backsides and start dealing with the problems related to the abuse of said trial accounts. Perhaps limiting a trail account to a max of 6 hours per day login time would help. It would hurt the 23/7 pharmers, and let more legit trail accounts login.

I totally agree. The solution might be tricky. I suggest a trial system and sticking them in trial corps. To leave that system or series of systems they need to sign for a pay account. Make it like school. Might also make people want to pay just to enter the real universe. You will not need any new server. You will not have them spamming paying account noob corps.
Problem solved

This thread wasn't an idea. It is pointing out a real problem. Trials are total access for spammers, isk dealers, scammers. I disagree with a seperate server, but we need trials seperate. If you want the full advantage of the EVE universe then pay for it. Trials are supposed to be a taste of the game. Not a easy way to exploit it. Many games have trial areas seperate from the full world. I again suggest this. Trial corp, trial systems=problem solved and leaving trial players hungry to see what the vast universe of eve will hold. Give them a taste, a teaser taste, leave them wanting more.

Make every paying account be able to send 3 invites only. Keep the history of who sent the invite and which account was created with this invite. If the trial breaks rules, ban the inviting account too. Make trial accounts be able to create one character only. Create a separate chat channel for reporting these kind of cheaters and let a CCP team member get a full time job just banning them.
It's doable if they care about it |

What they should do is just not let trial accounts post on the forums, or make it so they can only post a few times a day on the forum (Wouldnt completely stop spam, but it would be a start).
I really dont see a way to stop the forum spamming short of removing trial accounts ability to post, but this would be bad for the people who are on trials and want to ask a question.

Signed/
CCP please do something to stop this iskseller spamming in the open chat channels.
Just in the blueprints channel alone I block about 10+ isksellers a day but it doesn't help long because the person comes back soon with another trial account just for that purpose.
Make the channels open only to paying customers only.

No lol. The whole point of the trials from the giving side is to let the players view the whole game. Even if they can't pilot capitals they still get a chance to see them when on trial.
