Edited by: Sgt Napalm on 20/10/2007 20:30:06 Hello,
I am attempting to open a dialog with the developer/content designer responsible for the booster mini-profession. If any other developer or GM knows who this is please point them in the direction of this thread. Much thanks.
First, the questions to the developer: - Is the uptake of the booster mini-profession what you expected it to be? - In Kali 3 there was a brief mention about a booster buff. I noticed that you are seeding empire sites, adding some boosters, tweaking things. Is it possible for you to get into anymore details as to what we can expect? - If there is one change you could do to the mini-profession, what would it be and why?
Second, comments to the developer: I am currently in the midst of exploration and production of boosters and have noted some things which I think should be looked at, this is not to mean it is completely broken.
The good things: - Nice work on the graphics. From the site itself, to the turret vacuum fitting to the animation, it is pure eye candy. - Nice touch with the agents in space giving details on production, this was much needed due to the secrecy around the mini-profession. - Thank you for seeding the basic fittings and skill books.
The 'room for improvement' things: - No sound effect for the harvester (Sound department) - Details need to be added about where to acquire the reactions required for booster production. This could be added to the mission briefing that the agents give. I am still on this quest for the reaction print and I assume it has something to do with exploring the constellation where the gas cloud site is found, most likely hack sites. - One skill book needs some slight tweaking. Gas Cloud Harvesting allows for the use of +1 harvester per level but as it stands now you can still fit another harvester and online it without a problem. How about disallowing this? Change it from the use of another gas cloud harvester to fitting another gas cloud harvester. - Matching gas clouds to BPC Type. I was tempted to bug report this but maybe this is to add difficulty. I have obtained 4 BPC's for the Fernix booster in the same constellation through 4 different agents, but the gas required for the production of the booster is not the same as the gas cloud site in the constellation. Please look at this. I will file a bug report if you wish with the specific agents and sites. As it stands I cannot produce them without traveling else where.
The 'wish list' things: - Increase the drop rates of Neurotoxin Recovery/Nanite Control/Named gas cloud harvesters. Currently the prices for these items (if found at all) are high. This could be by manufacture, but please at a minimum look at named gas cloud harvesters. Adding these to the drop tables in the faction areas where gas clouds are found would be a idea to achieve this. - Mention something about mining upgrades and their effects on gas cloud harvesters, if at all. This could be done by mentioning something in the gas cloud harvester description. - Selling the things. Perhaps CCP wants it to be very underground but in order to make it main steam more options need to be available for market and contracts. My idea is to allow for one out of the four races to legalize the selling of boosters on the open market, perhaps tie it into the empire wars? This fact alone would increase the amount of uptake of the mini-profession. Lets face it, isk talks.
This is what I have for now. I will update this more as I further my quest in production.

Looking at your corp / alliance tag, I'd say you're one of the tiny minority of Eve who have been able to come even close to touching anything to do with boosters.
Hence why a). no one has an opinion on what you suggest b) why booster production is being moved to low sec

Was probably a good thing in the long run, but it did hurt a lot of us early starters, who had worked very hard or paid very high prices for them (i heard people paying 400M + per module). Which reminds me since this happened the Gate to Terrace exploration COSMOS is fairly redundant, as the main point of running that site was for getting the elusive skillbooks and modules.

Yep agree here.

I don't think this is necassary to be honest, it's all part of the quest trying to solve the puzzle.

I don't think this was a bug, at least in the beginning, originaly these guys used to hand out finished boosters, of the different types. So for example, in Feythabolis where the gas makes X-instinct, you would get finished boosters for Sooth Sayer from the gate agents. I'm not sure why they changed this now to the BPCs instead, except people to explore other booster constellations.

Yeh, i was also thinking, perhaps we could add to the wish list, some way of Rorqual being able to compress the gas.

I've thought about this with contraband over the years, overall i think the current system works quite well. Anything else and it would remove the black market element, and make boosters and contraband just another commodity. There are plenty of ways if organised to deal with this problem, and is part of the challenge of being a drug dealer. I also think there will be a great oppurtunity in ambulation, to meet clients and hand over the drugs in person.
One thing that may be interesting, with the old none active narcotics, the Minmatar republic was more tollerant to them than other empires. For example some of the drugs like Drop could take legally into 0.8 systems, and other harder drugs like Exile and X-instinct you could take into 0.6. Would be interesting if this was reflected too in boosters.

So the new boosters
Looks very cool and promising, really appreciate that this whole area is getting some attention Greyscale, and also impressed by the minor-factions new loyalty stores, and the new low-grade implants that comes with them.
A few quick thoughts on the new Synthetic Boosters,
from what i gather the bonus effects will be somewhere between 3 and 5%, with no side-effects. definitely attractive, but the big question is how much will people pay for them. 1M, 500K?
assuming the production process has a fairly similar number of time sinks and ISK costs needed as the deep 0.0 boosters, which sell for 3M-10M, i think the gas clouds are going to have to be very easy to find, and the bpcs pretty cheap to get hold of, to make people feel it is worth while doing.

Sorry, did not mean to ignore you Masu'di. It appears you've been around the booster field for awhile. Have you encountered many named Gas Cloud harvesters? Feel free to add your own constructive stuff to this thread.

Right. I just received an email from the BH Team. They are processing this as a bug for the time being. Turns out if you speak up, something might be down about it.

ahh i just assumed it was another strange booster related feature
don't have much to add except the archaeology site related to the booster COSMOS needs a rethink now the modules and skill can be bought from NPCs

It would've been quicker just to bug-report it in the first place We closed the defect this afternoon - agents in Cloud Ring, Fountain, Delve, Catch, Feyth and Wicked Creek should (as of Trinity release) all now be handing out the correct booster BPCs. Agents in Vale and Tenal were already working as intended.

Greyscale -- In the list of regions you gave, I noticed that Syndicate is absent. Seeing as how Syndicate's new LP store provides implants that provide benefits to boosters, and offers faction gas harvesters, shouldn't these BPCs be available from Syndicate LP stores? After all, if these are the pirates that like boosters so much that they made an entire set of implants for booster usage, you'd think they'd have the skills and bpcs readily available to create and use said boosters.

Sgt Napalm,
If you can track down some of the ex-coreli members you might get some good feedback too.
B Quadruplex (not sure) Dire Lauthris (now in MC) Callistus (now in Reikoku)
and obviously, our ex-leader and boss,
Joshua Foiritain (also in Reikoku).
CCP this is not the nerf you are looking for...
