I know the client on test is well... in testing. I am all in favor of a dragable movable interface. I'm even more in favor of one that allows these things :
Allows me to lock the windows in position either as a whole or individually with 2 mouseclicks. If not that then an "ignore any click that's going to do something to the current window layout" button. Movement of the targeted enemy "area" as well as the overview so they don't default to overlapping. If i can't turn off window snapping to grid and each other then at least i'd like the snapped windows to move as a unit once snapped.
Some other stuff that i'll no doubt discover as i go along. Better yet an interface config screen on the options menu that i do't have to deal with unless i want to alter the interface layout.

I like the new hud. But how am I gonna do if I want to have it the old way? Now locked targets start all the way to the right, so "selected items" covers 3 or so locked targets.

Edited by: JadeFalcon3r Pryde on 24/10/2007 12:55:31 The new HUD is cool...except for one thing, what happened to the minimize - no, not the one that moves your window to the bottom of your screen , but the original overview minimize that closes the overview into a slim bar.More like collapse.
edit : yea,my drone's window gets shortened after dock redock, even if you minimized it before docking or locked it in. I got Nerfed. |

also, when you dock and redock, the windows aren't in the exact position / length-width that you locked them into
other than that, I will add nothing to this thread. |

Same here. I find this very annoying as I have to reset it all after a dock/undock. Though I havent tried the things mentioned above yet but if it keeps resetting despite that then well it needs a fix. -----------------

I really like the new interface changes and gives good room for further expansion.
I found the locked target icon positions being moved to the far right to be a little bit of a pain but quickly found somewhere to put the selected items window that I liked.
Now, one small thing I would like to see with this advance is an interface preset save feature, where you can save your interface positions and window sizes as presets for different occasions. Example. A carrier is going to want a large drone window and a large fleet window open, but might not want much of anything else. But when he gets into his mission running BS/BC he will not need a drone interface covering most of his view. So he has different saves and when he undocks he can select them from a dropdown list somewhere (maybe best with the ship readouts in the bottom middle?) and the correct windows all shift into place where he wants them.
Also, it would be nice if when you are resizing the width of a window that is snapped to another one above/below it, that the width autosnaps when it nears the connected window's line. Right now all I can do to make that work is to drag the window to about the right size, undock it from the other window, then redock it again to make it fit exact. ------ Shakor Clan Information Portal |

Double-click the "Overview" title bar. This now works on most windows, incidentally - it seems at the moment like every time I log into the test server I find new UI changes to get excited over. For example, if you start dragging something and then decide you wanted to move everything it was docked with, holding shift mid-drag pops them all back into place

Edited by: Sky Marshal on 24/10/2007 15:13:17 I sucessed to login to SiSi only 4 minutes... And I find something that I hate about the new overview/info/etc. panel : They are always on top.
So in my Raven, I have 3 modules/guns totally unusable because their buttons are behind the overview, unlike TQ where they are still usable. I have to move the panel or the button (small place to move buttons on a monitor resolution of 1280*960) at each time on each ship...
I prefer to not imagine the situation below 1280x.
I don't know if this can be corrected to do as TQ, a background overview (I hope this can be. An option somewhere, maybe ?) as I don't have the time to check.

I like the new interface, my only gripe is with how the targeted ships show up all the way on the top right, so you have to move your overview windows down. It makes it harder to manage more targets as you have to shrink the list so that it doesn't cover the ships being targeted at the top right. It's slightly frustrating.

With my chat channels always opened (with font size +2), sometimes the scanner window, sorry but I don't have the place on my screen :-/
I have a 487 pixel width sector in the center of my screen, this is the Eve space. If I have to lose more only to repair a ergonomic deficience, I will really play to Overview Online.

We need the possibility to return locked target at the old position/way, or the fight process will be a nightmare. I like the overview/info/drone at right of the screen, but more important, I don't have the space to move all panels of the overview at a better location in my 1280*960 windowed EvE.
Please keep in mind players who don't have widescreen monitors.
It will be already difficult to manage modules with the On-Top problem.

1. How do i stop my locked targets being under the overview?
2. Can we please w/sugar on top have an option for the old overview layout. Agreed most of the time the new ones will be better, but there are times when having everything there is a real plus.

Did someone reduce the size of the buttons on selected item? I might need to call my screen size "critical", but with my resolution (1280x1024 on 17") the new icons are tad hard to hit. Especially with the optimal distance of 3x diameter...

To those complaining about the new overview overlapping with the targeting, it's being looked into. In the meantime consider this, you can now drag your fleet window to your chat channel box, or scanner box or whatever other box you only use from time to time. Fleet is a window most people only use when focusing on something other than combat anyway so it really gives you lots more space on the right side to move it elsewhere. The fleet window is also available in station now because it is your control tool for the new EVE Voice. Broadcasts are also available in station for the same reason.
Now I'm not saying this is going to work for everyone but this is what I've been doing since the new UI was added, try merging your overview and drones windows together on the right side. Keep selected item above them but slightly lower so that it does not interfere with your locked targets. This allows you a lot more space and response time is not much lower because switching between the two is really quite easy.
I also encourage people to play around with the new drone commands, they will make your life easier. You can access them from the drone window just like the overview settings, little white triangle in the top left corner.
There are still a lot of issues with the overview not keeping settings between relogs and docking/undocking but please consider this a work in progress, these changes are literally getting improved day by day now. I really like the idea of preset overview settings that you could load on the fly but I am not sure a feature like that would make it into Trinity but I will do my best to promote the idea.

What You mean "from time to time" ? If I not use one window longer than 2 min, I'd better close it. And fleet window is not what I can ignore. It is one of most important windows.

Thanks of course, but I can't sacrifice any space other than where it is now.

Try overlapping two overview windows and see anything behind intersection area. You can't? Me too. Try moving pinned windows. You can? Me too, but this is INAPPROPRIATE. Can we please get TRANSPARENT interface back?

While we are talking about Overview and UI, is it possible to add a kinda "folder" feature for overview presets?
So if I name my presets "Fleet\Tackler", "Fleet\Sniper", "Mining\Veldspar", "Mining\Ice", "Mission\Rats", "Mission\Wrecks" for example (note the backslashes), it automatically creates the folders Fleet, Mining and Mission on the Overview menu with the proper presets in them.
Another thing about the UI, though I fear it won't be on the top of your list: Could it be possible to merge all 3 variations of an Ore to the same group on the survey scanner (i.e. Omber, Silvery Omber and Golden Omber all in the Omber group) and making asteroids targetable with ctrl+click on the survey scanner? I bet I'm not the only miner who would love it...

The buttons resize with the window.
Could we also have bigger buttons when it's expanded further by the player - for those that play with very high resolution? Pretty please?

It is now impossible to R-Click overview bar and select overview preset. You should EXACTLY point to triangle. Isn't it stupid change? Do You know how it is HARD to do?
Closing cross moved about 50% way to the left. WHY THE HELL? What are you using to generate such changes? Not head, for sure. -- Thanks CCP for cu<end of sig> |
