Well, I still have the same connection problems. Thought maybe Tritiny would magically solve the issue, hehe.
MY ISP is NTL in the Republic of Ireland and I have been trying to get a hold of a technitian, but their customer service is so bad it is unbelievable. I have called five times (always with hold times of 20 minutes and more) and I always get some CS Agent that doesn't have a clue what I am talking about. So three times I have requested a callbacl from a high level technitian and they have not called me back. It is unbelievalbe. I wish I could switch ISP but unfortunately there are not that many options in Ireland.
The thing is I have been with this ISP since I live here in Dublin and I played EVE before just fine. Then I stopped for a couple fo months and started again, and now I am having all these disconnection issues.
Is there anybody else in Dublin, Ireland that has NTL as the ISP?? It would be great to hear from others in this area and if they are having similar problems.
Also, sometimes I get the message from EVE, when I losse connection" Connection was closed". Does this mean that my ISP or someone in between is actually blocking port 26000?
I might have to use Your Freedom. Can someone tell me if the 4 Euro subscription is enough bandwidth to play EVE confortably or do you have to invest in the 4MB 10 Euro subscription? Thanks.

I have the same problem as Alcoholique. I changed prefs.ini networkAdvanced=1
My login still doesn't have a port option anywhere I could find it. Any thoughts? Is EVE Trinity somehow to blame?

I am also from Ireland and am using NTL in Waterford. I unplugged my NTL connection and used a mates Ripwave connection, its like a wireless broadband connection (almost like a mobile phone), and Eve ran just fine. Could connect first time out to Eve. Did not change anything on my pc bar the isp. So its really down to some setting NTL have witht the Eve client.
Contacted both Eve support and NTL and both are blaming each other. Would be nice if CCP contacted NTL themselves rather than get ppl with no knowlege of what the problem might even be to do their work.
I guess if CCP is making enough from those who can connect they wont bother worring about those that cant connect since 3 patches ago.
Have not been able to connect to Eve now for over a month. No other online game I have has any problem connecting to their servers.
And for those that tell me to change ISP to play Eve. Well I cant see why I should have to change ISP cause 1 and only 1 game has done something that my ISP does not like or whatever. Just wish CCP would sort this out.
Laters all and best of luck.....

Just wanted to add the following: if you were used to change the server to 127.0.0.1 to use with for instance http-tunnel or some other http tunneler, you can do the same trick, executing from cmd line:
"C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe" /end /server:127.0.0.1:26000
Or changing your shortcut icon on your desktop to have that target...
Worked like a dream, but it's obscure so many people won't find it.

How would you use a tunneler to get into EVE if you have the connection problem. My ISP is Telia in Sweden and it doesn't really feel like they would block it but since I have no FW that's what I reckon.
Any one care to explain?

We didn't , TQ is still unreachable for me, or if reachable ,pretty much unplayable for allmost 2 weeks now . some of us seem to be fallen through the chairs here , ISP claiming nothing wrong , CCP keeping quiet , and in the meanwhile we are paying for a game we cant play i stoped counting the skill time lost in the last 2 weeks ,on several accounts

Aha, glad to know someone has tested this on the windows client and it works. Now I need to know how to do the equivalent on a Mac client.
"./cider /end /server:127.0.0.1:26000" doesn't have quite the same effect :(

Well I am glad to see that there are other people with NTL in Ireland that are having the same problem I have.
I suggest we all call NTL and just bother them till they might do something about it.
I have called them 6 times now and still I have not gotten to speak to a technitian that new what he was talking about.
I will keep trying even though with the kind extremely bad customer service NTL has, I dought I will get results any time soon.

Edited by: Daemion Matrae on 10/12/2007 23:36:14 I have eve installed on a portable hard-drive that I use to play at school.. okay, that I would like to use at school (during 5-hour long breaks) thing is, they have blocked the s*** out of every imaginable port, I've tried several solutions that were discussed in a few threads (including something that had to do with PuTTy and a loopback connection which I didn't fully understand, let alone managed to get up and running)
Anyway, any assistance for anything like port forewarding would be greatly appreciated, not only by myself I'm sure.
lastly, setting "networkAdvanced=1" didn't change my logon screen at all, and I reinstalled the client on the hard-drive about 5 hours before this was posted. Running windows XP, connection routed through an unknown router model (school router).
P.s. ideally, forewarding through port 80, 8080 or 8888. _________________________________________________ A stealth bomber behaves like a panda - Eats shoots and leaves - Fi T'Zeh |

Gents,
I got the game working. No magical fix though. Had to use a http-tunneler (Your-Freedom) and OpenVPN to get through whatever was blocking me before. It works and I can play the game. Downside is that you can't play more than 6h/day and you only get 64kb/s. If someone finds a better solution, by all means, share,
Really wasn't that hard to set up but it's not a long term fix.
Cheers!

The downside is it's slow, really slow, compared to a normal connection. But to change skills this would work out fine.
Just boot it up, do the "test", then hit ok. I use the "free service"
Then go "Settings" -put 26000 in the application port box -put 87.237.38.200 for the destination ip -click add -click ok
then run the command line statement mentioned above to connect to local host ("C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe" /end /server:127.0.0.1:26000). If you can get on the internet, you should be able to connect to eve this way.

Had the same problem with not being able to set the server any more in the login screen; here is what works for me:
Originally by: prefs.ini networkAdvanced=1 port=26000 server=localhost
So just put your port forwarding address and port number there, instead of the login screen where it used to be.

As a NTL user I had a number of issues connecting to eve, and it turned that it was my router that was causing the issue, not NTL.
I have a Dlink router and had set up the firewall to allow TCP port 26000 and UDP port 26001 traffic, however, I set them up as 2 different rules, (one for the TPC and one for UDP). In theory, the traffic coming in should look at each of the rules in turn, see if it matches a rule, and apply as necessary. But, this is DLink, and it was failing at the first rule and therefore dropping me out of the game.
I resolved this by setting up one rule that covered both TCP and UDP for 26000 - 26001 port range, and have had no issues since (fingers crossed).
Hope this helps some of you out there.

Sadly as I dont use a router this does not apply. I have tried running Eve now with no firewall running/installed. And I have also tried running it on XP and Vista. Seems this is either a problem with the Eve client itself or NTL. Have contacted both and both are pointing the finger and each other.
Shame I had to pay good money to look at an icon on my desktop....

Hello CCP! We want to play your game, just make Trinity able to select which port we can use. Or did you open a new port one month before a big release only to close it again?

Edited by: Vertex Eisenstein on 14/12/2007 03:09:49 If your ISP is blocking eve then using a different port won't actually help you as far as I can tell.
Have you NTL guys done this yet?
Linkage
if the name "Tiscali" comes up anywhere then NTL ireland is routing through their network which is quite likely. If not then NTL ireland are a new problem.

Thanks m8 , now i can at least train some short skills ,or change skills when ever i wish ,but its too slow to actually play , but better then nothing .
after 2 weeks of intensive nagging my ISP , the situation is still the same , had maybe 1 day of grace , where eve worked as it used to ...
if i manage to get in with http tunnel ,does it mean im being blocked on the way 100 % ? also , i ran a port check to my route to the eve server (route checked with pingplotter) , and i found out all the servers on route , all beside TQ , gets the result : Port 26000 does not appear to be open. (or 3724 for that matter) . only TQ gets : Port 26000 is open and accepting connections. that cant be good...

If you can get in using the tunnel, and could not at all before, that means that the port 2600 (and 3724) is blocked. Normally this is done from your router.

If you can get in using the tunnel, and could not at all before, that means that the port 26000 (and 3724) is blocked. Normally this is done from your router.
If you could log into the game at all (get to the character selection screen for example) then the port is not blocked, and it is a different issue.
The tricky thing is that i can log in without the http tunnel with some exceptions every day , but only after 2:00 am for couple of hours then the connection to TQ goes dead again , usually if i get in its very laggy , emergency warps and desync all over the place , unplayble , i had only 1 day in the last 2 weeks where eve worked fine , my ISP off course claiming they are not blocking any ports and promise fix in the next coming days for 2 weeks . its very unlikely the problem is in my router , i tried to connect directly to the net without using the router and its the same .
edit : i sometimes can get into the game and immediately get : lost connection to server or : connection to server closed .
so i guess its other issue .

Yup sounds like a different issue. But if you want to check your router, normally reseting it is the best course. If you don't want to reset it, to get into it (assuming it's your at home router)...
-go to start -click run -type cmd -hit enter -type ipconfig -hit enter
-look up your ip -go back into windows and open internet explorer (or firefox) -type in your ip changing the last digit to a 1 (eg xxx.xxx.xxx.1)
You should see your router login page. If you haven't used it before your login and password are most likely admin. This is where you block and unblock ports and such.
But your problem sounds more like an ISP issue to me.
