im a new player and heard of a really cool idea making my character to drop cynos fields sorta like a scout/path finder.
do many corps look for characters like this or would it be a waste of skills

Waste of skills, unless youre in a corp that often uses capitals/have your own capitalship - PEITION AGAINST THE CARRIER/MOTHERSHIP NERF!

Join a corp with carriers and you will be very popular!
Kestrals are the most popular cyno generating ships because they have large cargo holds for cyno fuel and they are cheap.
Covert ops make the best scouts. Currently, it's not a good idea to have them generate cynos because they will be decloaked and fixed to one spot for a minute - making them expensive sitting ducks.
When covert ops cyno generators come out with the Trinity expansion this November, using covert ops to generate cynos should be more possible.
However, nobody knows the description of the covert ops cyno generators yet!

But really, don't think of it as a carear or anything like that, just chalk it up as a "usefull ability", allthough training electronics level 5 (a pre-req skill for cynos) is good to have anyway -

if everything i have gathered about the next addon the Black op Tech 2 BS's will be able to make a hidden cyno field.
Not to mension it's micro jump portal generator to jump a few frigs around meaning that they will be effective for hit and run attacks (or just to jump in a few covert ops into hostile region of space)

However as stated in the devblog (http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=513)
Covert jump portal generators can only bridge for ships with Jump Harmonics 2 or above. The covert tech 2 ships: Covert Ops, Stealth Bombers and Force Recons have been upgraded to this end.
