Dear CCP. When I started playing this game, which I still enjoy, I was billed in US Dollars. At that time the price of the US Dollars was about 10-15% higher than now, so it did not make that much of a difference to switch to Euros. Either way. The price of my subscription rose by about 13% at the time. Currently the price of the US Dollar is about 25% less than the price of Euros. I find it unfortunate that some are billed significantly less, because of currency rates. My subscription is significantly more expensive now than before. What am I paying the extra money for? Please bring this in line, so all products are sold in the currency (preferably US Dollars).
Regards

One word.... tax
iirc the US does not (currently) allow the taxing of online "services" such as subscriptions, the EU does.
So in effect, CCP is getting the same amount of money in the end. They're not intentionally ripping off european subscribers y'know. They are however compensating for taxation so they get an equal amount of money each month from all players.
Blame your government, not CCP. (Also, of course the price of the dollar is in a freefall right now. I fully expect it to go up again after the november elections though. CCP can't possibly adapt the pricing for every fluctuation in currency prices. If they did, they'd have to change it every day)

But let's face it, the amount CCP charge per month for playing EvE Online is pretty minimal anyway, considering their patches are all free and the game is free to download, quite unlike some other games on the market.

I expect it to stay the same or worsen slightly honestly but I agree CCP cannot keep up with the changes. They would have to adjust slowly with the most predominant trend.

Well, CCP could start billing all players in ISK (-slensk Kr=na) and thereby avoid the free fall of the Dollar... -- The future begins now - in EVE we live it, in real life we create it!

Edited by: Andrue on 28/10/2007 19:58:34 The cost within the EU has risen since game release because of the introduction of VAT on electronic services - this is not CCP's fault. CCP may well be suffering as a result of the game becoming more expensive damaging its competitiveness in the marketplace.
The cost outside of the EU has fallen because the world currency markets no longer regard the US Dollar so highly - this is not CCP's fault. CCP will in fact be suffering due to a reduction in the money they get from their US subscribers.
Your post implies that you want to reduce your subscription which could cause CCP even more financial pain. If you dislike this game so much that you want the producers to go bankrupt I suggest that you are plying the wrong game. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

I don't. The weakness of the US economy, the strength of the EU economy and current state of the oil market make it highly unlikely that the US Dollar will recover any time soon. I think it'll be a couple of years before it recovers. That is also dependant on the Chinese economic bubble bursting. If they can control that and get a soft landing then the Dollar will stablise where it is. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

http://ec.europa.eu/internal_market/e-commerce/index_en.htm
as the server is based in london then ccp has to add on 17.5% tax rate, if the servers were outside of the EU then ccp would need to file tax for each country where subscribers connect from.
Ignoring Admin fee's (you cant ignore them, but the cost should be fairly trivial) the EU Subscription cost 12.75 pre-vat so... Converting the American to EU is 10.42 sooo....
eu pays 12.75 (eur/adjusted), US pays 10.42 (eur/adjusted) 12.75/10.42 = 1.22 (or, europeans pay 22% more)....

I live in the US. Yes, I pay a little less than those in the EU. On the other hand, I have an idiot President who spends my taxes on things I want no part of. So in the end, I pay more.

Your either with him (sitting at home not out complaining) or against him (sitting on the oval office lawn :P).... I do find a 22% gap a bit steep, CCP did adjust prices once, but what they did was actually keep the value for EU/USD the same, and just move them both up.
As a UK Resident I would have to pay an additional fee on top because we dont use the Euro(€) and in some ways the UK enjoys a discount of sorts (around 4% I think).. It would be nice if they billed everyone in a single currency, but that would really tick off people in the USA when they find that they pay 22$ this month, and 23$ next month, and mayb 26$ in december, and 23$ in jan (ugh)..
It's all somewhere between a Rock and a Hard place..
And 1 more thing, Iceland actually join'd OIL (Operation Iraqui Liberation) so nearly everyone who's involved in your presidents stupid stuff plays eve ;P

Well, I see a mixed response. Some agree, some don't. But there is definitely a problem here. I will henceforth be buying GTC from an American site. My government (Danish) likes to tax averything, but this is a way around the problem. I would like to implore everybody to buy from the American sites. Maybe it'll get CCP of their feet. And the free upgrades and game are not an argument for paying more. In a global and competitive world like ours it's all about service and product renewal. CCP know this and I'm sure they know that charging for expansions in a game like EVE will cost subscribers every single time. The game is "down" at least 30 hours a month often a lot more. That's a lot of time where play is not possible. The game content shoul be updated all the time, simply because the patience of the catlle (us) is not infinite. I appreciate the fact that server maintenance is always needed, but with the performance of the game during fleet battles and the sometimes during 1on1 encounters is so appalling I sometinmes find the charge to high. I like the game and I never hope the game is split onto seperate servers but would it be possible to split the universe into to two servers and the allow a reloading time when "travelling" between servers? and make it high space, so my chasing a hauler won't get screwed?? Just an idea.
