Edited by: Alski on 29/10/2007 19:41:59 The background stuff… We have seen a fairly huge amount of “whineing” here on the forums regarding the changes on sisi where ships stored in a carriers maintenance bay can no longer have cargo within them, a large portion of these complaints are purely from people who have to deal with what is politely referred to as “0.0 logistics”
What most people are talking about when they talk about 0.0 logistics is just: - moving pos fuel from empire to 0.0 - moving pos fuel from a 0.0 corp hanger array to another pos somewhere else in alliance space, in other words; fuelling POSs.
It seems fair to suggest that CCP have always imagined that claiming space in 0.0 should require these kinds of logistics to set limits, fueling towers takes both time and isk, both of which are finite and valuable, two forms of resources which have to be expended in order to claim space, and thus preventing alliances from getting too large, or claiming an amount of space that by every other measure of an alliance they have no right to keep.
Basically POS fuel, and thereby logistics and the time spent doing it is CCPs way of stopping alliances getting too big (in terms of amount of space claimed) based purely on the size of there wallets.
What is the one thing all 0.0 players hate more than anything else? Would it be POS logistics maybe? The chances are if you live in 0.0 and you don’t think POS logistics is the most annoying, repetitive, boring and fun-sapping aspect of the game, its probably because you don’t do it!
Whats your point? My point is this is obviously the reason people are using Carriers so much for this duty – it takes a long time and using a Carrier is the fastest and most effective way of getting POS fuel in to 0.0 and to the belly’s of the towers, we use Carriers because it’s the easiest way of saving not only ourselves but everyone else in the alliance a lot of time (imagine if we had to do multiple freighter runs a week, which the larger alliances would certainly have to do, if we didn’t have carriers to do the job)
This is my real point, and my question to you all, what if the TIME side of the equation was not a factor? What if we didn’t have to spend what probably adds up to tens of thousands of man-hours every week fuelling poses, What if every alliance worth its name could just stick 6 months worth of fuel into a tower, and hardly ever touch its fuel bay again?
Its plausible that some very wealthy alliances could be able to spam POSs like never before, with no time required to refuel them the limit becomes purely a matter of ISK, would this break the game? Could a higher base cost of the POSs themselves become a limiting factor for the spam tactic? What if the basic mechanic of having to fuel POSs remained, but was modified to make it less time consumeing? There could be many ways of doing this, for example making the fuel itself take up less space, or by “chaining” POSs much like jump bridges are now, whereby one central pos could somehow remotely power a limited number of other towers, either system wide, or constellation wide (just an example)
Or, do you just think that the current mechanics of making us all slaves to POS fuel, carriers, haulers, freighters, and excel sheets is fine the way it is?
Discuss! if you could be bothered to read all that. -
